I drove it for 25 miles then the fuel light came on giving me a range of 50 miles left (is that correct?)

I couldn't see anything unusual happening with the gauge. They said when idling for 10 mins it would move but this didn't. I would say it acted the same as the Spaceback I had.

Range displayed is entirely dependant on driving style so 50miles range stated when you hit the reserve is right if the car isn't coming off a high fuel economy run.

Tell them to F£$% right off !

Just walk away. It will be cheaper to go elsewhere and start again

I would tell them that after that insult of an offer that you aint interested anymore.

Walk away from it all bud.

+1....though I've got a nagging feeling they will try and wreck his future credit score if he stands his ground.....though stand his ground he most definately should.

I know they'll probably will ruin my credit rating. Hopefully the Financial ombudsman will do something about it.

Took it for a drive on trade plates today as I don't have insurance on it anymore. It's the first time I've driven it since January 13th [emoji15]

It's filthy inside and out but wanted to see how it behaved.

I live in Ireland and we dont have the same rights as you to reject a car.

But having read through the thread, you have the patience of a saint! :)

But from the Skoda and Dealers point of view they have "fixed" the car and an independant inspectror could not find fault. I would say cut your losses and take the car back once they do a complete valet and also through in some goodwill like the next 5 services free or some such.

I was doing about 50 max for short periods. Fuel range showed 65 miles left. I done 25 miles then the fuel light came on and showed 50 miles left.

Yeah - definitely sounds normal to me.

It's decisions time. The car is on 3 year free servicing. They have offered to pay my 2 months arrears and give me £150 also. Apparently I have 14 days to decide.

Ok better the devil you know, I would imagine "if" there are any more problems then the Dealer will be bending over to fix them seeing that YOU will get them out of bother with Skoda if you take the car back, look at the bright side, its BLUE !! (Rather than the Green on the Loan car) :)

After all this heartache, are you ever really going to be happy with this car?

If you can honestly answer "yes", all well and good - keep it.

If there's the slightest doubt in your mind...

I still think you should walk away from it.

Trouble is they'll consider it fixed as he explained to me. It's a very awkward situation now.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

But it wasn't fixed when you formally rejected it, having already given them ample opportunity to fix it. Surely that's the fixed point in time that matters, right?

  • Author

We shall see Chris. I'm waiting for everything to come through in writing from them including the vehicle inspection reports.

What's awkward about the situation is, that if you take it back ? What happens six months down the line when it happens again ?

How much equity have you in the car ?

What deposit did you put down to buy the car ?

Work out, if you walk away from it now how much money will you stand to loose then offset that with what it will cost to get you back into another car.

If you get the car back then you want it in writing that if this problem was to arise again that you able to reject and walk away from this once and for all.

Haha yes thanks for that. It's a long slow process. It was 3 months yesterday that it all started and is still in progress. I'm just getting annoying letters from VWFS about non payment of agreement for the last 2 months. I've phoned them and told them to stop sending them but apparently they're computer generated and was told to ignore them [emoji6]

They do have record of an open case on this so they're quite aware of it.

That just a lazy response, any computer generated mail CAN be stopped , they can remove the flag from the file manually otherwise thinking about it how does it stop sending when payments are caught up ????

I hope you have the name/ s of the people you have spoken to advising you to ignore these as this is irresponsible and just might backfire on you should things progress .

I would recommend that you cover you ' butt ' as much as possible as we have all seen the stories where companies try to wriggle out of any responsibility when things go wrong, Motor Trade & insurance seem to be the worst culprits,  & you have already  mentioned that they are trying to ' coax ' you into taking back the car you have already rejected.

Good luck & i hope this all comes to an end soon for you.

The car is now worth £10K and the remaining balance is £13500.

I didn't put any deposit down.

Nobody wants to pay the negative equity in the car.

Thanks for all your help guys you've been a great help to me [emoji4]

No deposit - so you're only into it for half a dozen payments.

That would make the decision so much easier if it was mine.

They must have breached contract by supplying a vehicle of insufficient quality.  As Chris said the fact that it may be fixed now isn't relevant, they didnt fix it in a reasonable timescale.

Roll on that Suzuki Swift you liked

I agree with camelspyyder on this one. Just get the hell out of it epically if you put no deposit in. There fault there problem. Let skoda and vwfs sort the finance out. If they had of supplied a car that was fit for purpose then nobody would be in this predicament.

Stormchaser, Agree with everything Camelspyder said.

You bought the thing on PCP so you would never have owned the asset anyway (unless you paid the "crippling balloon payment" at the end of the PCP), so nothing to lose from standing your ground and walking away other than time wasted and payments made so far.

They've just made me another offer to try and keep me with it.

A 4th free service courtesy of SUK

VWFS would repay my arrears

VWFS would give me a Lamborghini driving experience all as a courtesy from them.

And I declined it.

They're sending this to me in the post in writing and I have 14 days to decide

I asked him then what but he didn't reply to that. He said at least take the car back to see what it's like as we are satisfied with the results and deem it as fit for purpose. I told him so what if it plays up again. He reckoned they would be straight in the case about it.

Haha it just gets better [emoji6]

Well that offer is a joke.

Don't hold your breath for the offer in writing.

Skoda UK was supposed to send me a letter last month confirming its offer of a free service (in relation to its lies and mishandling of my rear doors repair and complaint). Still waiting for it - they've been trying to fob me off with repeated calls stating some crap about sending it twice now, then their printer broke (apparently they only have one printer in the whole of Skoda UK) delaying them sending it for a third time. Allegedly they finally sent it today Recorded Delivery (I made them give me the tracking number, which appears to be invalid at the time of writing this), so I expect more nonsense from them and sill no written goodwill offer - Skoda UK clearly have issues with honesty, as well as reliability.

Do not take the car back, even to road test it. Once you are back in it you'll never get shot of it.

  • Author

Yes very true. I've already got 3 free services on it. I don't need a 4th and anyway if I was going to have it back I certainly wouldn't be keeping it after 3 years.

Anyway they're trying to get one step ahead of me as they've approached the Financial Ombudsman before they've been contacted. So I think I need to contact them too so I can tell them the "real" story.
