Tom,

Are you still sorting out some internal sound recordings ,driving in the various modes under various engine loadings.

Thanks

Keith

PS. Windows shut please.

Keith just tried to PM you a link to a test-vid I've done but seems you can't receive any messages? Don't know if your mailbox is full?

  • Right, this is getting ridiculous now.   I really do feel sorry for Tom, as his thread is being constantly spoilt by off topic arguments.   Can the people involved please no longer post if it is d

  • Ok so here it is, side by side comparison of M-Perf and Stock M135i exhausts. A mate of mine owns the white car, the grey one is mine. :-)

hope you don't mind me posting all this guff in our thread Tom, but I got my car back from the detailers and the result is superb. Super shiny and ultra reflective. The coating has teeny flecks of gr

No engine or exhaust noise but another clip of me mucking about with my new GoPro. Trying to get some practice in with the camera and editing software before The Santapod Fabia meet ;-)

Not suggesting its not a fantastic (and devestatingly effective) point to point car.....all the motoring press rave about them and I dont doubt them in that capacity at all.

Just simply if you gave me the choice of an R or M135i Id take the BM any day of the week. I dont really care if in reality it doesnt handle as well or have as much all weather grip as an R....the Golf doesnt have one of the worlds finest 3.0 straight six's in its nose and IMHO cant match its theatrics at 7k rpm full load..they do make the most incredible noise although admittedly some of it internally is faked (but you'd never know).

.....one point I havent made is what id do if personal leasing......given the Golf is rather a steal still in such circumstances Id have one over the BM and probably love the hell out of it. If I were buying more traditionally it would be the BM as you can negotiate a great deal on one.

I don't think the golf R mega cheap lease deals were around when I bought my M135i. If they were I would have been tempted with one too. Glad I ended up in the BM tho! At £200 odd a month they were fantastic VFM.

I do overall prefer the M135i Tom and by some margin but can definitely appreciate why people jump on the good R lease deals, supreme amount of car for the money hey.....definitely wouldnt be paying 30 odd grand for a Golf though :-)

A mate in Dubai has a DSG 5 door in Lapiz Blue.....standard spec over there is generally better than the UK too and I think he only paid the equivalent of 24.5k for his....that said you'd have to live in Dubai and as amazing a place it is, definitely not for me :-)

Saw your M exhaust vids by the way, one of the best noises just got better, love the pops and spits on overrun!

Yep those tasty lease deals are hard to ignore! Not sure they are quite as cheap as they were anymore tho. But for those people who jumped on the bandwagon at the beginning - total bargain.

Cheers for the comments on the exhaust vid!. To be honest the clip doesn't even really do it justice. Sounds even beefier in the flesh lol. The pops and crackles on the overrun are just comical. Puts a huge smile on my face each time I take it out.

Tom,

Sorry I was out last night, so couldn't respond quickly.

Have now made some space available, so please PM me with whatever you have.

Thanks.

Managed to get out for an hour or so in the 135i for a test drive.

What a nice peice of kit :)

Only problem for me was first 16 miles I did in Eco mode and no matter how much I gently squeezed the throttle it would not go above an average of 29.4mpg :(

The next 16/20 miles was a mixture of sport + and comfort mode where it was sub 20mpg average with huge smiles, sounded awesome but really worried about living with sub 30mpg as my main car. I was hoping that just bumbling along some A and B roads in eco mode it would have gone over 30mpg :(

Back to the drawing board, need to find sub 6 second 0-60 car but when driven gently can return about 40mpg?

Only 250 miles ot go till full melt down :) sadly my car is about to get parked up for 10 days from next Wednesday :( One day...................

Still I'm using a bit more throttle and extending the revs a little higher and it is a 'good thing indeed'

Did a motorway run at a' realistic' speed and got around 34 mpg in eco pro. not bad for a new and tight engine :) I assume it's my imagination, but the exhaust sounds a little noisier (in a good way), I don't think it's just the extra beans I've been using

Mind you just doing some figures based on say £7gallon and 10,000miles per annum.

If the 135i averages (honest John site)31mpg that would be £2,333 fuel per year.

Now if I look at a 330d m sport which with same year/current mileage to buy is about £2-£2250 more than the 135i.

The 330d (honest John site) is 45mpg average which on 10k miles is £1555 per annum.

It is only £778 difference assuming petrol and diesel were the same price!

That would take me 3years to even out the purchase price for starters!

Now putting it into context I know which car I rather be driving after yesterdays test drive :)

Thank goodness for choices and that people can drive vehicles that use different fuels, at present 4 readily available Sources of Energy & one getting to be more readily available in some parts of the UK,

Petrol, Diesel, LPG, Electric, Hydrogen, or a combination of 2 in some vehicles.

So horses for courses or just what people currently want and in some cases the fuel the EU / UK Governments encouraged drivers to use.

For a while that was LPG, then Diesel, and now they seem to be going against diesel as a means of powering private passenger cars.

60 mph NSL and 70 on some road types, so there are plenty of vehicles of any of the 5 Energy Sources that can power a Passenger Car to

those speeds economically & efficiently, and if you are counting the costs of doing 10,000 miles a year, you can choose easily how much you spend.

Dirty Diesels might suits lots of buyers but might be just a life style choice, just as buying a BMW is or buying a Skoda,

and just the same as driving a 1.0 or a 2.0 litre engine is.

George, are you still running Nitro at Santa Pod!!??

Do you mean Nitrous?  No i am not.

Not even using Shell V-Power Nitro, never touch the stuff.

Just Tesco Momentum 99, its the VFM choice.

(maybe some Hiperflo 250 in my Zippo.)

I know for a that Tesco's own is one of the best you can get.

I did some work in a fuel depot last year and was looking at all the different additive tanks dotted around the complex for the various brands and the chap in the terminal in the know; said Tesco's additive for their premium fuel was awesome ;)

He didn't knock any of the others but just said VFM stick with Tesco.

Greenergy produce the Tesco Momentum and many other retailers fuels, Tesco is a retailer not a Road Fuel producer, but then neither are Asda, Sainsbury, Morriston etc.

For the first time in years I am driving cars without using the oily stuff. Ultimately I'm hoping to average around 35 on motorways (driving at a realistic motorway speed) and about 10 mpg cross country :D

I've been looking at my eco pro stuff (it's sent to my phone automatically now that I am fully connected) and had to laugh. Why would I buy a 326 neddy power car and worry too much about fuel costs, I've already given up on that one :D Good economy is a plus no doubt, but there is an awful lot of stuff about economy built into the sub menus. I assume its inherited from smaller engine models?

Btw. the connected Drive is pretty clever and the remote stuff is fab. I can lock my car remotely, track it's position on my phone using it's built in GPS and even get it to flash it's lights at me when I lose it in a car parks :)

I should add that the locking of the car and flashing of the lights are done by my mobile phone

Does it go up in smoke when someone is nicking it and then automatically puts in your GAP claim. Does it CCTV the event then via satellite send a copy to local constabulary .

Of course, doesn't your Golf ?

Can you unlock it with your phone too?

Don't know,as I'm in a car park and I can't find it.

If you enter the secret, special, passwordy, magical number.........yes :) You can set the fan running too, if you want to try and cool the car down on a hot day as you go to your car

You can't start it like that. If they can pinch your phone, they can pinch your keys. The only difference is the App is password protected.

It's nice when your new car keeps giving you little surprises and you find something new to do/play with :)
