Estate rear bumper protection

Featured Replies

Has anyone out there found a good way of protecting the top of the bumper from scratching when loading the boot ?

I know there are clear plastic sheets that are cut to size but wonderd if you can get any metal ones that would match the other bright work on the car ?

Thanks

Have a look at rearguards.co.UK they do plastic ones in a variety of colours.

There are several on the market, aluminium, stainless, plastic, carbon vinyl, clear vinyl etc all depending on your needs.

Just beware that some will look quite tatty once they get scratched.

I made my own boot liner out of thick rubber sheeting as I wanted to protect the bumper and keep it water tight for when wet diving gear was transported:

When transporting wet gear the rear was bungied up making it completely water tight:

This flap was simply folded flat and put under the OE Škoda rubber boot liner when I wasn’t transporting my wet kit.

Thanks everyone,

Think I'm going Superskoda S/S trim  plate for every day protection and then I'll have ago at at Gizmo68 boot liner for bike and diving equipment transportation days.

Gizmo68 where did you get rubber in that size sheets ?

I bought it from eBay, it was around £40 IIRC. (I will check)

I had a twinset in there and TBH a twinset is a bit heavy for the sheeting as when I ‘walked’ the set forward the rubber gathered a little, which is the reason I put the OE rubber mat on top.

If you use a single then it would be fine on its own IMO.

Now the Superb Estate has been sold I may be persuaded to part company with it... its far too big for the Yeti.

The superskoda one looks to be better than the equivalent version for the Yeti which doesn't cover the lip of the bumper. Price wise it's similar to the rearguards ones.

I have the S/Skoda one - expensive but, it fits and looks good !

Just de-burr the edges (VERY sharp) and use some silicone to give a full seal to the bumper.

Thanks for the tips on sharp edges and silicone sealent Skoda4x4man.

Gizmo68 thanks for the offer, I'm thinking of making a full load bay length version so that a muddy mountain bike can be contained, that should cover the my single tanks easily.

No worries, mine does cover the seats completely when they are flat, but obviously they then loose their waterproofness as there is then no liner going vertically between the front and rear seats.

I use an old curtain attached under the rear seat headrests for this. It's not wide enough to go up the sides of the boot but the carpet in the boot doesn't seem to attract dirt anyway. I get the odd tyre mark on the rear seatbelts though, so I've ordered very cheap seat belt covers to protect them from dirt. A disadvantage of beige seat belts, the black ones in the Octavia never showed up dirt :(...

Nice to see others see this as a great wagon for hauling Dive Gear. Can easily get 3 sets of kit in for weekends away!

Bigpikle,

You've got me worried now - I thought the items on the link were for the FL combi but have just seen the 09-13 for the years they suit. Mine was a 09/13 so I think made in 08/13 - I should be ok - have they changed the rear bumper since then ?

Pics look the same on Skoda web site as mine. Perhaps some one here can confirm.

If you bought the one I linked earlier and you have a pre-FL Superb then you are good!

OH ! - not good, fairly sure mine is facelift model (LED DTRLs, indictors, brake lights etc).

Its a lot of money if it does not fit.

Have email S/Skoda just for confirmation and to see if they have any idea when FL version will be available

yep - sadly at the bottom of the product listing it clearly says "Not for the facelift version" so obviously something has changed on the bumper profile so it wont fit :(

Hi all

Just ordered a new L&K estate, due for collection in November, hopefully.

Currently looking for some accessories and wondered if anyone can give any advice on the best place to go for them.

We're looking for a rear bumper protector to fit to the top surface of the bumper to protect paint against dogs clambering in and out.  We've got a rigid plastic one on our current Volvo V70 and haven't been able to find a Skoda equivalent apart from a 'wrap' type covering for the top surface.

We're also looking for a set of roofbars and a boot liner.

Interested in current owners opinions on what is available and where from.

Thanks for looking.

Yes the rear of the Facelift has changed, I have used rearguard protectors on several skodas. They now do a new one for the facelift  code RBP709. Mine are not subjected to hard use so last well.

ouch - £56 delivered for the plain black version and another £9 for silver or other styles. Still just plastic as well. Thats a hell of a price when the s/steel ones were <£40 delivered!

Skoda bars are have a very large cross section so some std bike racks and roof boxes will not fit them.

I have Thule setup and all is fine and should I change car in future all I'll do is buy a new set of feet for the bars which is a lot cheaper than a complete new set of bars.

Not looking good for the rear bumper protector if you're after a stainless one, ABS seems to be available but at a considerable cost.  Just make sure you get the version for the Face Lift Superb which I think is dated May 2013 onwards.

HoneyMonster65 - that does look interesting but very very similar to the one from S/Skoda mentioned earlier in post. This seller lists for 05/13 models onwards. When you check compatibility with the drop down boxes the dates come up as 2009 -2015, so I'm not at all sure now if the seller has realized there was a change when the FL Superb was released.

The one thing I'm noticing with the S/steel versions is that they do not go the full aperture width where as the ABS ones do - guess its down to the harness of the S/steel.

Look forward to hearing your findings.
