Bi-Xenon lights with AFS

Featured Replies

I'm not a fan of Auto either, I know when I need lights. My car doesn't know when it's foggy.

They only come on when the wipers are on constant too, so there will be people driving in the rain with auto or intermittent wipers on but with no lights on, blissfully unaware their lights know better.

Whilst most people on this forum will be wise enought to override Auto when required there are too many road users that assume Auto lights are failsafe. They aren't.

Just look at the number of modern cars on the motorway in the rain with only DRL's on.

I hate the way auto lights come on when going under a bridge or a couple of trees for no good reason.  Generally switch between 0 and Auto to prevent this unless they need to be manually overridden.

Always know when the lights are on, I have the Columbus set to auto-switch to night mode with the lights.

They're not coming on for no good reason... they're coming on because the sensors are detecting reduced light levels, which is what they're supposed to do when set to auto! Maybe they need to refine the lane assist camera and add 'bridge' and 'tree' recognition!

The dashboard lights will glow and fade if you have the lights turned off when the car thinks you need them on, its good way to check what the car thinks.

Yeah but in the garage every morning and driving back in even when its sunny outside and in car park bulidings too they spark up if you have set to auto too.

I thought xenons have a set number of start ups per bulb so doing this every day of the year unnecessarily won't help the life span and they are expensive to replace so...?

mine come on most start ups, under tunnels and car parks. near 5 years old and the bulbs are fine!

As for the AFS function, I didn't notice for the first few months, but get a dark lane and you'll see the difference! I pick it up now even more by going from the Citigo to the Octavia, and yes it makes a difference.

And they swivel even further in Sports Mode (as long as the lights are on Auto of course)

Really?  I just thought they were more sensitive and faster.....

Maybe they are just more sensitive and it isn't a wider range

Am I the only one who finds as a passenger the afs makes them feel sick?

I've noticed it as have some of my passengers. As a driver I don't have the problem at all and it's great if you've got the hammer down.

Yep, I've had a passenger say similar, but only when it was on Sports mode.

Nothing at all to do with the added 'eagerness' that may have been put to good use then? ;)
