The Two Year "Itch"

Featured Replies

It's happening again, I've only been driving for 5 years and the Mk2 Fabia VRS Estate is my 4th car. Every car i've bought was meant to be a "keeper" but I always get that itch...

I love the Fabia, its just about big enough for all the baby clobber, adequately fast, economical, cheap to insure but still as we approach the cars 2nd birthday i find myself looking elsewhere. How to i kerb this urge? I've got less than £2k to pay off the Fabia so i would have a nice deposit on something else.... I've been looking at the Mk3 Focus ST-3 Estate.

Does anyone else suffer with the same urge?

Hmmm... It's a slippery slope.... I suffer this one too; but everytime I go do my research and price it up... I decide to keep my current car a bit longer :-)

It's good fun looking at options though...

IF you want the car to keep then you'll know deep down that you're not going to trade it in. To scratch the itch for something different buy something cheap to thrash about for a bit. Whilst in it imagine not having your other car. If you can't then you've cured the itch. If you can get rid of both and move on.

It's completely irrational, the idea only popped into my head a couple of days ago but i now feel almost set on a new car. Maybe a couple of test drives would dampen the idea.... or make it worse haha.

It will make it worse I've been driving roughly 5 months and I've had 5 cars already :notme:

I think you want to curb the urge otherways you may damage your nice wheels.

I like the Focus st estate too. Not sure what the derv one will be like.

Buy with cash and not on tick. Makes it much easier to curb these urges.

A. You've got to save up the cash to do it.

B. When you've got the cash you realize how much it really is...

C. ...and what the opportunity costs may be.

I have and that's the worst bit  at least the cars I buy are so old I don't lose money

Once the itch has set in its too late. No point in fighting it, just scratch it good and proper :-)

4 cars in 5 years isn't bad going, if you've had this one nearly two years then you've done well and deserve a treat.... Like a new car lol! :-)

I can't afford to change my car, so when I sit down and think about it - I actually quite like it so I don't mind so much.

Depending on how my job interview goes on Wednesday I may be looking at the possibility of buying a 4X4.

1 month to go till I've had the Fabia for a year. If I get a 4X4 I'm waiting till I get a years NCB first! Thing is this other farm is further away and in a more rural location, not on the side of a main road that gets gritted all the time.

about once fortnight i think about, then logon to carzone / donedeal weigh it up, realise i cant justify the outlay - i refuse to buy a car on a loan, pay more for something worth less at the end? **** that - so i stop and think no, the octy is pushing middle to old age but still going like a train so i couldnt get rid of it (her..)

No get the car :)

I did used to. Now the itch is for a silly (turbo jap nutter) weekend car to go with my nice daily octavia or to start modding the octavia. The only thing that really holds me back is... I have no money at all to do either one :D

No get the car :)

If I did at least the dark windows should hide the two black eyes the wife would give me :notme:

Just buy her something and she'll be happy!

I've had my latest car 3 months and I'm looking to replace..I've been driving 10 years and have had 10 cars..the longest I've owned one is 2 years and 9 months

Yep, currently got a rather nasty itch..........and that's just the car related one!!

Same sort of thing, My Octavia vRS Combi is near 5 years old and don't get me wrong I love it, it ticks all the boxes but I really really regret getting a diesel.

Cant help I'd be better off in a petrol than a diesel due to my low mileage (5-6k a year).

The new vRS Octavia petrol is from reading posts on here not far off what I get in my TDi, against the diesel/petrol it's running costs are probably just a bit lower. BUT the out lay is massive.

I'm tempted by the Leon Cupra, it's got better options like DDC plus it's on 0% at the moment.

I've heard that discounts are good too.

Will I change?.......................probably not as it's a costly game to play!

Don't worry I have the itch, want a quick estate, and fed up with diesel, want a petrol car again, (only have had the car for about 3 months) keep looking at Volvo V70 R's

I've got the itch to change from an octavia 2.0tdi dsg to a seat leon cupra r with 225 bhp standard

I'm also on the hunt... I was close to buying a mk2 focus RS but (SWMBO) had to put a stop to it! So I'm now reluctantly looking at something a bit cheaper. I want something as fun, don't want to loose to many HP's from the Volvo and I'm struggling to find anything that ticks the boxes like an RS. I briefly looked back at Octavia's but they don't really excite me.

I've been looking at circa 2004 RS4/RS6's but can't find one that I like.

Also to the OP I looked at a 6 month old mountune ST-3 and I couldn't bring myself to buy it. The RS kept creeping back into the picture and following advice from a member who's owned an ST and one or two RS' i was totally turned off by them.

Happy hunting, I hope you have better luck than me.

I had the itch after about 2.5 years of mine but a good long trip to Knockhill in Scotland and back has laid it to rest for a while. As well as needing a whole hill of money to buy a replacement vRS.
