Mirrorlink Update

Featured Replies

I got my hands on our car a couple of days ago, and I'm just getting started exploring all the connectivity. Just started to check out SmartGate today and noticed Skoda has introduced quite a few more SmartGate Apps than there were when I last checked.

Here they are:

post-116168-0-00400400-1426292263_thumb.jpeg

• ŠKODA Service

Basic functions are related to finding your dealer and getting in contact with them, but SmartGate allows you to see any dash lights, battery charge, service interval and other basic info.

post-116168-0-20902000-1426292319_thumb.jpeg

• ŠKODA G-Meter

Displays your G-load, pedal forces, speed, rpm and gear. (Much like you see in F1 broadcasts and driving games.)

post-116168-0-39226100-1426292366_thumb.jpeg
• ŠKODA MFA Pro

Gives you access to over 40 signal types from the car and allows you to use your phone as an extension to your instrument cluster to add gauges etc. It also combines your phone camera and car data to work as a black box/dashcam. And if you have Mirror Link, you can show all this information on the head unit if you so choose.

• ŠKODA Performance

You can record your drive (on a track day for example) for later analysis. It records map data, speed, rpm, G-force...

post-116168-0-75129700-1426292462_thumb.jpeg
• ŠKODA MotorSound

Augments your engine sound using the cars sound system to mimic different engines.

post-116168-0-81028200-1426292542_thumb.jpeg
• Škoda Media Command

Allows you to control the head unit from your phone or tablet. With it you can have someone on the back seat in charge of the music, navigation etc. if you so choose. (Might be neat in a limousine type of vehicle.)

(Sorry, no screenshot, reached the file limit.)
• ŠKODA Drive

Records your driving for improving efficiency.

I'm considering buying the SmartGate module and retrofitting it.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Have you had a look into the costings for it yet?

What does the sim actually add, feature wise?

The ability to start and stop the unit by sending SMS messages to it.

Asked my dealer if this could be bought in the uk and they said no. Wonder if they would fit it if I sourced elsewhere.. Is there much to the fitting does anyone know?

Sorry for perhaps dumb question, but does the smartgate need the most recent Amundsen unit (with mirrorlink?), or can be retrofitted also to previous model?

TIA

Are you talking about SmartGate?

Me to. There appear to be a lot of non plug wires. Have you seen anything on fitting yet?

Nope - I'll let you know when the module turns up :)

Yep.

I'd be interested to see if this will work for my MY14 car...? Let us know :)

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Will do. My MY15 car has the same hardware and software versions on the Columbus as the MY15.5 cars seem to be getting, H43 and SW0370. Spacenase had his Columbus software updated to 0390, and that is the latest I have seen on a Columbus.

Good to hear You are going to retrofit it. Don't forget to make pictures please!

The SmartGate is "not" a part of the infotainment system. You can have Columbus, Amundsen, Bolero etc.

All the user information is in the Owner's Manual.on pages 124-125

I have the same versions and they seem to support SmartGate just fine.

I guess that you mean Bolero in Octavia 3? I have Bolero in my MY14 Octavia and I wonder if I will be able to retrofit. Is that possible at the dealers' or only from Czech shop at the moment?

I mean that the SmartGate is not a part of any infotainment system. It can or cannot retrofit to Octy III. It is just a WiFi AccessPoint from car's central unit to the smartphone.

It should be available in UK from any dealer, when you can order it from Skoda's official net store.

I have ordered it as an option to our Octy III, now just waiting for the car to arrive in April.

Will report back on it asap! I won't hold my breath as two things I've always noticed between dealing with UK dealers and those over here (Ireland) are

1) The dealers here are the biggest spoofers going. Claiming things that aren't any way correct at all eg. There won't be an L&K model for this Octavia. Two months later it's in the showroom! The few dealers I've dealt with over there were a little more honest. More often than not I was told 'I don't know' or 'I'm no sure' and I appreciate that more than an outright lie. They'd go to the trouble to find out though..!

2) The dealers here offer terrible discounts. If I so much as even thought about looking for a deal that's anything like drivethedeal over there I'd be shot. I don't think I've ever gotten a discount near 5%.

Like others here I found the SmartGate module on the Skoda eShop but, they won't ship outside CZ. Got in touch with a local dealer, gave him the part number from the eShop and he was able to find it.

He contacted Volkswagen Group Ireland to check on availability and their logistics team advised they are in stock in the factory and would be with him in 7 - 10 days. RRP in Ireland is €180(For my Yeti anyway) and they've agreed to do it for €160. Nobody in the dealership had ever heard of it but the product comes with fitting instructions. I will be asking them to fit it as soon as it arrives and will keep you posted.

Cheers,

SB

Thanks for the update, considering this myself so interested to hear how you go with it - keep us posted. Which dealer you using? Bit of luck it'll be same as me, MSL Park Motors, and I won't have to explain it! :D

Had this back from Skodaparts UK today.

I went through Annesley Williams but considering they had never heard of it it probably doesn't matter too much!

Here is the thread between Annesley's Parts department and VWGI:

Can you check and find out how long it would take to supply this part please.

Annesley Williams

----------------------------------

Part # 5L0063218 is for a Yeti but I don't know if they are truly vehicle specific...

Spoke to the guys in Annesley's and they said they couldn't find anything on the system searching "SmartGate" and wouldn't have found it had I not provided the code...

One for the Octavia looks to be slightly more expensive. Strange! Anyway, give Park Motors code 5E0063218 (sourced here) and they should find it no problem. They will likely tell you(as AW told me) that it's not in stock in the UK and could take months to get from the factory. You can assure them that VWGI have confirmed they're in factory stock and shouldn't take long :p Also - while searching for installation instructions I came across this for your car - http://www.cars-equipment.com/www/en/shop/skoda/oem-5e0063218-smart-gate-for-skoda/ - I know nothing about the site so would advise the usual cautions, look for reviews etc, before placing an order!

I will of course keep everyone up to date on how I get on, and scan whatever installation instructions come with my SmartGate and post them for those interested.

Cheers,
