Footwell lighting... visual improvement or chavy eyesore?

Featured Replies

Just installed some radio controlled undercar lightning in the footwells, was wondering what peoples thoughts are on these.

Pics/videos please! :)

Personally if I see a car with these they always make me smile. It's your car, if  a mod makes you happy, go for it. I have several mods that people don't like, but I do! :D

Ill post some tomorrow night if I get the chance!

Honda has footwell lights.

Didn't know it was there until SWMBO noticed and wondered what it was.

No idea what purpose it serves especially on the drivers side.

Internal I presume?

Superb has them - mine just the front, but some front & rear. If done well, adds a bit of ambience to the cabin.

Reminds you of how dirty your shoes are!

I had them on my previous car in blue, but it was and still is a popular option. Took them off a while later, though.

To answer your question, yes I do now see them as chav and would never consider fitting them to my Vrs.

All personal preference, so each to their own, though.

Chav factor second only to 12_000K plasma discharge units.

So you can see all the dirt on the matts when you get in ;).

Well it's so you can see what pedals your pressing of course. Don't you look at your pedals? Don't you care what you're pressing? 2/5 fatal collisions are caused by people pressing the wrong pedals for the simple fact that they just didn't bother to look. You sir are a disgrace and should be banned from the roads!

So does that mean 3/5 look first then press the wrong one? Looks like I'm safer just guessing by the sound of it!

I apologise and will forthwith drive looking at my feet and ignore the distraction of looking where I am going.

My Leon has them.... not that I have them turned on, waste of a bulb and holder if you ask me.....

My Kia Cee'd (my Octavia should have been built last week) has soft red LEDs in all 4 footwells that match the red of the dashboard. I've got to say that I really like them.

I'm not sure if it's coincidence but I noticed that I don't get tired as quickly when driving at night (I can do 1-2k per week some weeks).  I like that there isn't the brightness of the dashboard with the high contrast of the dark footwells, more of an even glow.  Passengers also seem to like them as they can find stuff in handbags etc without putting the interior lights on (which I really don't like people doing when I'm driving)

I like how the whole cabin has a soft ambience to it, without being so bright that it's distracting.  I'm thinking about adding something similar to the Octy when she arrives, but not sure what to do as I believe the dash is green and so may not have the same effect that the red of the Kia does. I looked at the retro-fit footwell lights which double as ambient lights, but I think the white may just be too bright and off putting for me.  The beauty of the Kia is that the footwell lights when opening the doors turn white, as do the over-head ones, which I don't think I'd get if I fit coloured footwell lights in the Octy.

My wife traded in her Fiesta Titanium for her new Zetec S Red Edition on Friday and immediately commented how much more gloomy the cabin was (the Titanium has a red LED strip above the glovebox and also LEDs to illuminate the door bins which the Zetec S RE doesn't).  So much so that she's already ordered a replacement strip so I can retro-fit it to her new car.

I like my footwell lights.  I like the way they are linked to the doors individually.  They make me feel all aloof and self important as I admire the reflection in my shiny shoes  :sun:

That's what we like to see, a man who learns from his terrible mistakes before it goes too far. Continue on the path of enlightenment fellow citizen.

Just fitted footwell lighting to my octy as it was only £15 for the parts (5ND 947 415). Quite like it so far, especially at night as the cabin was very dark before hand...

Shall see how I get on with it as time goes by, currently on 30% dimming at night.

They were standard for on my lagunas and they are on our works shoguns but the only light up when a front door is open. It's a good idea as you can see if you've dropped something, wouldn't have weird colours or have them on when driving.

I like it :D
