Best sounding cars...

Featured Replies

Part of the appeal of Cars, to me is the sound they make.

So what are the best sounding cars / engines in you opinion?

I love a good V12 scream.

So the Aston martin DBR9 has to be one of my faves. Treat yourself by searching for the video of it on Top gear on YouTube.

Others; Mercedes V10 F1 engines as found in the McLaren's from 2002-2004, they sounded epic!

Cosworth BDA series sounded good too.

I've always had a soft spot for the 5 cylinder Audi Quattro from the 80s!

I have always been a V6 & a V8 fan, then a Supercharged V8 fan. (Petrol ones)

But now i am older, i just like a sensible SUV.

Absolutely.

Literally godly

Oh yeah... V10's rock

The first GP of '89 I was watching practice on TV and the in car coverage of Patrese's Williams was the first V10 I'd ever heard - I nearly wet my pants :)

Quite like the c63 AMG's when they get booted!

This but for me, there is only one king of noise, my daily (one day)

BDA on twin 45s, Countach 5000, quattro 5 or a Mouse tuned to 1bhp/CuIn.

Noticed how most things suggested are in a V configuration? Haha.

Massive fan of V's. Love em. Cars and bikes :).

Good point,

Straight 6's need a mention in this thread.

Some TVR's sounded great with an inline 6 bolted in.

Have flat 4's been mentioned yet?

That distinctive rumble associated with chav's in blue cars with gold wheels......

Oh hang on...

Willing to go out on a limb and say the Alfa Romeo 3.0 V6 24V as seen in the GTV or in 3.2 Guise in the 147/156 GTA models and the GT sounds amazing!

Id Love one of them on full chat with a tasty zaust!

And the unmistakable, legendary sound of the 1.2 3 cylinder HTP.

Generators dont count! were talking about engines in cars... oh wait! :P

Make a video :D

honestly... forgetting actual performance I think older engines sound better

Ferrari 512bb is one of my faves, it's hard to beat the sound of a boxer 12 (although I'm struggling to find a good example)

But I also like old yank V8s (hence the comment about forgetting performance). I blame my Dad for feeding me Bullitt, Smokey and and Bandit, Cannonball Run etc in my infancy.

Or if you can ever get to hear a Lancia S4 on full chat then that's nearly the one for me.

I used to see a local 'Businessman's' Jaguar XJ 220S TWR around and about and thought that is wide and sounds rather good.

Then one day when i was pottering around enjoying the peaceful country drive, i missed it coming up behind and then passing me

at double or treble my speed.

That is truly the most amazing sound i have ever heard ever from any vehicle.

It near stopped my heart with the bass.

+1 of the BRM

Nothing compares.

The video is a good representation but it's even more spine tingling in real life!

Essentially the same engine the Metro 6R4 used, and they were proper growly.

V6 layout makes a good noise - particularly the Ferrari Dino / Lancia Stratos one.

Bit rude ;). Haha.

Always had a soft sport for a throaty W12. Like the Continental GT. I've always preferred really low down grumbles. BMW I6's also come packed with a great grunt to them, one of the reasons I loved my old E90 with the N53 engine.

I always liked the noise my little ZXR400 could make, it revved to something like 16k. It was so loud on stock I had guys with modded 750s asking what I'd done to it.
