Dam it runs fine on my i3 & GTX680.

Frell hard to dog fight though. Now remapped most of the keys/mouse, still look drunk and blind.

A couple of pictures of my gorgeous Python. It is an absolute beast of a ship.

  • I'm not doing that again!   The ZX spectrum version ate 2 years of my lfe, and the 16bit rerun on the Atari ST / Amiga saw off another year.   I havent got enough years left to play Elite another

I've ordered it but only played some of the training missions this is on a Intel Pentium Dual Core G3240 with 8GB  and 5470HD and it seems to run smoothly. I'd forgotten that it was properly released yesterday. Perhaps a trip to Alioth is in order.  ( And I hope it is more playable that Frontier:First Encounters was on its release!) Doesn't run on the WIN8.1 Tablet though - I think that may be down to the small amount of RAM (2GB) rather than anything else though.

Edit : Runs fine (medium settings) but I don't like the UI very much, perhaps I'll get used to it. I considering breaking out the controller I used on the X series of games (Xtension, X2, X3 etc) to give a bit of familiar control.

How is the gameplay?

I am thinking of splashing the cash for it over the Xmas break (when I will actually get a chance to play it).

How controllable is it on mouse/keys or would I be better factoring in the cost of a joystick/throttle or Xbox controller rigged to the PC?

I find any of this sort of 3D game always a  bit tricky with a mouse but haven't tried it yet with the controller. (ancient saitek p750, which needs a new micro switch in the fire button!)

Really liking the look of this, last space game I remember playing was "freelancer" reading the above sounds like it will run ok on my laptop!

Yeah I played Freelancer a lot too. It was Elite-ish. Not bad in its own way.

Had a look through my old PC games, found my copies of Homeworld, Homeworld 2 and Nexus the Jupiter incident, maybe Boxing day will be a space RTS day, or I may just buy elite and lose the rest of the week!

Yeh Freelancer was entertaining if I remember correctly, I remember enjoying it still sat in my Game Drawer as well

An XBox controller works very nicely for this. You need a few keyboard strokes still but not for most things.

It plays brilliantly on my i7 with GTX660 - 1080p with everything on maximum.

Homeworld, I recall that one too...

I have a rollerball mouse, I swapped it for a regular mouse. Then swapped it right back again. I've spent a bit of time flying in a fairly straight line. I actually opted for a controller/joy over pad and am way happier. happier == smoother. I personally could not get the smoothness I wanted in the mouseball. It was getting better, but too easy to nerf myself.

Trying to stay on topic, I would recommend Nexus The Jupiter Incident, one of the best Space RTS's that I have actually played and one of the few games have played right the way through. Might not be but I remember it being very pretty graphic wise.

ok, I bought the game, trying to make it work, it asked me to log in, I have and its says "we have sent a verification code to your e-mail, enter here" and its been 10 minutes now and no email.... :(

any ideas?

Any luck?

not yet. will have to wait until my "ticket" is looked at tomorow I suppose :( working the next 2 days though, had an afternoon off and wanted to play!

Played a bit yesterday, much better with Joystick/Controller than keyboard.  So far have more money from discovering new systems than trading (-8cr). Seems to be a cross between the original Elite and Frontier - with some the better elements of both games retained,  I have to say that docking is a lot easier on this than on the original BBC version.  (although not as quick)

Likewise - started playing yesterday.

Keyboard/mouse is not very easy - so I am now awaiting a joystick! Made the noob mistake of hitting the mouse button within range of the station and got a fine within 10 secs of starting to play only 100 cr though! Will have to read up on discovering systems - only money I have made so far was from a bounty.

Would love to be able to play the newer version, not sure if the laptop would cope and I'd need a controller of some sort.

Ah the memories of tricky manual docking and then getting lazy once you could afford the docking computer. Will it still play blue danube as you dock?

Did the game not play "In the hall of the mountain king" at some point as well? Might have been Frontier.

That was Frontier!

Am pretty sold on this, is the universe quite similar the that of Eve online in that everyone is in the same online world?

I think so, and there is a plan to be able to land and get out your ship and wander around stations, planets and other ships. i.e. do a boarding raid.

Yep have been looking at the trailers and the plans for the future, I like the look of the ships and the fact you can buy a space bus.

Biggest amount received was from going to KIni just under 3000cr. Presently trying to find a decent trade route.

Do I ?? Don't I ??

Just bought a joystick, got the receipt  though !!!

Do I have to spend years on this ???

Still currently BF4'ing

Whats the learning curve like ???

How much did you play Elite on the 8/16 bit machines?

That will set you in good stead

Didn't touch them.

Just been watching a few vids

Does look impressive.

Played Elite about 30 years ago on the BBC Micro B, has it improved in the last 30 years and worth picking up?

I have some powerful PCs and a PS3, is it on those platforms?
