Be careful when doing that though, playing with buttons accidently jettisoned my cargo and lost my silver cargo

A couple of pictures of my gorgeous Python. It is an absolute beast of a ship.

  • I'm not doing that again!   The ZX spectrum version ate 2 years of my lfe, and the 16bit rerun on the Atari ST / Amiga saw off another year.   I havent got enough years left to play Elite another

by line up, do you mean just fly at them on target ?

It changes the bottom left display to show the scoop targeting. It'll be obvious what you need to do when you try it.

so, are we gonna set up a little group/fed ect for brisky members? and how do you do that ? lol..

Shark

Its on the menu that you "start" the main game from.  I'm trading as "Iron Orchid"

So apparently shooting fed fighters isn't a good idea...

Ok, I've done a few training tests.

I've been out on solo, crashed into a sun and been attacked by Trevethick base for shooting at it !!!

To say I'm ****e is an understatement.

So got a new laptop, wondering why Elite was running slower then before, Laptop has a dedicated Graphics card and Elite had picked the Intel graphics chip to run on...

Check your graphics setting you can probably force use of the proper one

Had a good go at it yesterday, did a bit of this and that and found a nice trade triangle.  Been killed by other pilots  twice,  killed myself once (attacked a "wanted" craft  and my Eagle took some thruster damage - almost managed to land it it twice but it was impossible with only two hands constant roll right.) just bought an Adder for a bit of trading.

Groups, you can only set them to your cmdr name at the moment.

I had a few goes and a few pms from others trying.

I'm sure that will improve.

Bizarre moment of the week, last night doing a little pew pew pew waiting for tea to arrive... a npc bounty appeared. It's name was: briskoda-octavia

Took me a moment or to go hot while figuring out if I'd got space blindness or some subtle message. Was elite reading my history, how can this be... 10k cr cool... Anyhow mashed the prt scr's; but didn't get a shot. It's F10 for screen shots.

So some digging, apparently npc names are made from player names and a beta donate/buy a name. so somebody is either flying around as cmdr briskoda-octavia; kudos, or brought $5 during beta the handle; kudos too.

I did some basic hopping, then died in my sidey being interdicted by a ramming clipper. Got home quick, now scooting around lhs 3505, working for my sol permit, acting as a bounty hunter... waiting for non-murderous, as npc's spoiling for a fight, tend to give one. Got dropped on by a dropship, he was clean, no treat... so I went back to reading... left me on 28% hull before I woke up and jumped, 10k bill.

If you want to practise 'dog fighting' nav beacons are open and easy, just watch out for hitting clean... np if you do, head to a platform, not a big base; thats also deathly expensive, to clear your name. Resource Extraction sites are busier, a lot more ships and rocks to hit. Also goes dark quite quickly as the planet moves around it's star... spotting rocks in the dark is expensive. Normally a light and dark res spot.

I found fighting flight hard, normal flight/dock ok. But I early on mapped and deadend mouse to roll/pitch and kb to wsad shift/ctrl to trusters. So I fly pretty much all on on thrusters and roll/pitch to mouseball. Santa did buy me a joystick and it made it considerably easier. Although I've stuck with the wsad for truster... can just trust around a target at will... he's out turning me... I just thrust backwards; a smidge of up or down, with pitch and the odd bit of lateral A~D to avoid being headon... comes back in quickly enough. I do however clip a lot of other NPC ships as I thrust into them on my blind visual spots... doing very well for bounties the fed's are.

Now it's back to the odd hour here and there though :)

I'm currently in the vicinity of Arcturus.

I'm a few jumps away from Sol, though I'll need to do a bunch of missions for the Federation before I can get myself a permit to visit.

For those of you wanting some relatively easy money, there's half a dozen systems near Lave that sell rare items. If you hoover them up then travel 150 LY away you'll make about 16k profit per ton. On a Cobra with 34T capacity that's basically half a million credits per round trip.

Well I've made some money doing a few bullet board jobs, still lacking any real cash and stuck with the same ****ty ship, I think I'm going do some mining later to try up the loot so I can do bigger jumps at least.

Getting there very slowly.

Are you all playing solo or out in the real deal ??

I've always played "live".

Don't bother with mining - you'll get quicker cash early on by using the basic discovery scanner to map unexplored systems.

Each time you jump in, do a scan and see what it finds, then target each unidentified object and close up so it starts scanning (5LS for small stuff, 50LS for bigger items like planets). If you find a system with a bunch of new planets you can get 10k or more for scanning them all.

For those of you that pre-ordered, you'll probably have an Eagle parked up near where you started - you can just sell that for 40k.

I have been scanning but it tells me I need to be 20 LY's away to flog the data, I tried doing a few hops and ran out of fuel !!!

Just keep going left. You'll soon be 20ly away.

Been playing for a while, had traded the sidewinder in for a hauler which I was making 20K for a 15 min return trip in

Traded that for an Adder (to try to get bounties etc) and messed up the fit out really badly so I think I might sell it back, buy the hauler again and just trade until I manage to get up to a Cobra.

Enjoyable though as you are always pushing yourself to do something whether it is discovery, trading or bounties

I've still got that I thought it was slightly better than the sidewinder. You can get 10t of cargo space if you try ;) (have to lose the Discovery Scanner and install 2t in there and install 8t cargo frame into where the Shields were and install shields into where the 4t cargo was.) bought a Adder to do a bit of trading and build up the cash before I go exploring again in the Eagle, (unless I can make enough for Cobra Mk 111)   I'd like to install the Advanced Discovery Scanner but it's a bit expensive!

I ratted in the adder for a bit... fixed laser, burst or beam on the base, then a gimbal mc up top.

Takes a bit of getting used to as you can't see much of whats going on. I ended up stripping it and running as a panel van... 26t cargo, no shields, d comps and cls a fsd... jfdi :) Sold everything, freagle, sidey, sold all modules separately; not sure if you loose as a job lot or not... to get a cobra. But I've gimped myself as I didn't realise how much it would cost to upgrade this one... so don't rush for bigger barges, 350k, reckon it needs 3 mill to make it 'safe' to not be worried...

I'm tempted once beginners luck has worn off, to go back down... was doing ok; ok = having fun, hauling random comps in adder /ratting in viper... didn't try rares as my map was bugged, now fixed. I stopped as I was beginning to see how fast I could dock in adder and had a few close calls with random antenna masts... why would you do that, build a spikey thing next to a flat thing?

. I ended up stripping it and running as a panel van..i :)

That's what I plan to do (but I think I'll have some shields though) as I still have  the Eagle tucked away. Just to speed things up a bit.

I was looking to rush to a Cobra but then read about the costs for the upgrades hence the move to the Adder but as I have screwed up the "fit out" I think its time to go back to the Hauler ("panel van" with zero upgrades) and some trouble free trading. Might try the rares if it is worth a bit of money.

One thing I have noticed is to always check the bulletin board every time you land - took on a "we need 6 of xxxx and we will give you $$$$" quests (which would net me a bout 30K profit, bought the required amount , knew I could sell the rest for a small profit and did so only to check the bulletin board to find a repeat of the quest (which I could have sold for another 30K profit. The initial trade options in the systems seem small but after a couple seem to open up to a few small volume/large profit ones.

Still in the sidewinder at the moment, got the graphics sorted, just exploring at the moment, managed to get a bounty on myself from shooting a clean ship.

Update on my progress - last night I did revert to the hauler as I had planned, upped the shields, power generator and popped a gun on it for "defence" purposes.

Returned to one of the stations I had been trading from to find a trade for "find 7 palladium for 168k credits" which with a flight of 5ly each way would net me approx 70K profit, returned to the station with the palladium (storage topped up with other things as palladium was a loss at that point on the commodities), made the trade and rechecked the bulletin board to see another identical trade had appeared!

So despite losing a day to buying an adder, messing it up, rebuying a hauler, spending about 50k upgrading it and not trading normally, I am now 140K ahead of where I was when I logged on yesterday and I was only on for about 1hr!:rofl: :$$$: :$$$: :$$$:

So tip is definitely check the bulletin boards even after having just finished a trading mission from them - you might find a nice surprise there!

just installed voice attack and an elite profile, seems to work well.

Got laptop back, got a really good job on the bulletin board, buy two slaves at the station and sell them at the same station made 20000 credits without moving, other then that Currys has struck again with my new laptop have had it for 2 weeks and for those two weeks, I have managed to use it for about 3 days, went back to them and had the LCD replaced and getting it back this afternoon playing on Elite laptop keeps cutting out looks like an overheating issue!

Apologies about the rant, its a shame as other then that the laptop plays Elite at a brilliant level and I am really enjoying the game!

I have been playing on missions on the bulletin board after a few failed trading attempts..... but back to my old problem, I have a new computer, and I cant get my verification code, the programmers had to "do" somethinglast time, seems it doesn't like zen internet e-mail..... their support is SO slow... days again waiting for them to get back to me :(
