Rust spots on lower door

As with al Volkswagen Products they manufacture, every part of manufacturing is traceable from the steel to the vehicle signed off leaving the factory.

Why they know they cheated, but seem to not remember who did it, or why or when, but they admit they did.

Same with the paint and anti-corrosion, they know the suppliers, they know the line the vehicles were built on, and if Skoda look, they know how many warranty issues,

that day, that week, that staffing team, and who the Management were that month.

Maybe this Yeti accidentally didn't get the full and proper treatment and evaded capture somehow?

Things can go wrong occasionally on a conveyor belt type process.

Just for the record, I am not ignoring anyone on this forum. All views are valuable to me no matter how unpalatable some may be.

Let's stick to topic so that we can all share insights and info, which this forum is so good for.

Hello Abominable, Im in Inverness and have just arranged an appointment with AC to look at my 3 year old yeti with 'rust bubbles' / 'zinc inclusions' not as bad as yours yet but mine has done less than half your mileage.

Do you have any tips/ammunition which could help me, I know AC have terrible customer service so im going in ready to battle. A problem I have is that the paint warranty ran out last month.....

My problems with AC went back to a few years ago, so things may well have changed by now. I was in AC myself yesterday getting some of the work that was previously done evaluated (not been given an answer yet), so I guess I will soon see if their service standards have changed at all. The service manager was certainly helpful enough, so I am hoping that their game has changed for the better - I'll let you know!

well been and done the warranty thing, sat in the showroom while they took pictures so don't know whether they got them all or just photoed random stone chips???

No discussion or anything, just 'we will send off the claim to Skoda' ....

Took some photos of my own when I got home, so I can shoot them off to Skoda when the aggro starts and I have to argue the toss.

Incidently my yeti is 13 reg and has done 32k I have also got some stone chips which I could photo to show them what a proper stonechip looks like.

I also think either Volvo or Skoda have been round to AC to do an inspection because all the cars on the forecourt have been separated and put onto their respecitive sides, where as last week (or the week before) they were all mixed up.

Is this issue still occurring on more recent Yetis or is it just pre-facelift vehicles?

If I trawled through the last 4 pages, I might eventually find the answer, but not everyone says how old their affected car is.

(I'm pleased to say that my early 2010 car is thankfully completely free of paint faults, other than a few paint chips that I've touched up as soon as possible after they occur, mostly on the leading edge of the bonnet).

I can't recall seeing a single report of this problem on a facelift Yeti, so by that point they probably had it sorted.  Early days, yet, though, as most facelifts won't be much more than 2 years old.

On closer inspection, the paint bubbling round my door handles looks more than just cosmetic. Makes you wonder if the Yeti has anything like sufficient rust protection for the UK climate. Never had a car go like this before!

Abominable,

it looks like your Yeti lives in the Moray Firth rather than just near it.

Have Skoda UK's senior management and Skoda CZ's seen pictures of your rust bucket?

If I can't get the rust sorted out I will ensure that my Yeti does end up living in the Moray Firth! Skoda UK know of the issues, but as far as I am aware they have not seen the pictures. It seems a bit like my car just skipped the galvanic protection stage in production, and I must confess, that even if it is resprayed, will the rust not just come straight back again?

Alasdair Stewart is no longer Skoda UK Brand Director, which can only be a good thing...

& members that have directed their serious issues to the new Brand Director have been reporting favourable results with the likes

of engine failures and replacements etc.

Duncan Movassaghi was long enough with Skoda then VW & now back with Skoda to know the issues and failures

in the Brands.

Ongoing Issues that have been allowed to be swept under the carpet.

Maybe look at directing your Communications for his attention, a Senior Customer Services Manager will be put on your case.

Thanks GoneOffSKi. I already have a case running with Skoda UK and am awaiting a response from one of the two dealers. Escalation is a last resort as I'd rather let the dealer and Skoda UK take the initiative first.

What happens if it is just resprayed though, won't the rust just come back?

Yes it would.

It needs beed blasting, etch priming, etc etc.

And that is not just what you see but what you do not see.

Best forget the Dealers, other than they can get the Area Warranty Manager in to look see, and then commission and Independent Expert Inspection.

Best to get the Case Handler @ Skoda UK who were the importers to get a Specialist to examine the car and see which part of 'wrong' they did in the Factory.

Easy to find Independent Experts that can do a report on Vehicle Corrosion you are in Scotland after all.

But you do not need to,

get the Skoda UK Call Handler to get a Senior Customer Services Manager to arrange a proper inspection and report.

Send them your Picturers and 'the ones the Dealership had taken', and they can go from their.

If Skoda only have to replace doors and the car gets a respray then easily sorted,.

but if it is more than the doors that were not properly treated at production then maybe Skoda do need to scrap it and

replace with a similar Yeti with the correct Anti-Corrosion and that should not be an example of a lemon they built.

As i suggested before Skoda CZ should have it in the Factory as a example of when they got things badly wrong.

The bottoms of my 2009 yeti doors are covered in rusty pock marks. Not sure at that age and 75000 miles I'll have much joy getting it rectified.

Good call GoneOffSKi, though if a respray is not the answer, what is. Scrap it?!!!

Can't believe the rust on your car, its scaring the crape out of me. Its the wifes car and she still has 3 yrs HP to pay, I have started a complaint with AC and Skoda. Mine is no where near as bad but has only done 1/3 of the miles. We live in a similar area (Highlands), although we are country not coast so hopefully the air is less salty.  Im keeping a close eye on the paint.

I don't mean to worry you any more than you already are, but I don't live near the coast either!
