New focus rs - looks a bit pants imho...

Featured Replies

Is the focus closer to Denim blue than Race blue!

Looking at john999boys photos, still of same opinion on the looks as my original thread title - sure it will be very good fun to drive (and certainly wouldn't put my vrs up against it!) but still meh IMHO on looks.

Although be interested how colour compares to race blue oct as just order wife's scout in race blue

  • And I've gone right off the RS3 idea. £40k plus for a car that#'s slower than my Yeti and has an automatic box...

  • I'd have one in a heartbeat if I had the money

  • Be it 'chav' or not. This and it's 400 ponies bring a smile to my face. The more I've seen of the mk3 the more I've come around to it. Purely for its driving characteristics. My local ford don't

Where would your Ford £30k go?

Focus RS 2016 4X4 or a Ford Mustang 2016 ( lowest spec)

And what price the R400? Several k more than 30 at a guess, bearing in mind the price of the R

Neither of those.

A good unmolested AVO Mk1 RS2000 without the wood dash but custom console and webasto in Modena Grren or Ermine white and a 'non ford' 3.6 Suberb estate with a couple of upgrades (exhaust and remap). Well, at least I still have one of those....come on lottery numbers....I miss my RS escort :)

I like that focus very much. It doesn't shout out look at me, it could easily blend in with day to day traffic. Looks like ford and vw had the same brief for each of the cars, make them subtle but beasts.

For less money if I wanted performance, I'd buy a monaro/VXR8 which has the sound track to go with the performance.  I know someone with the RS3and the Golf R and both are incredible.  The Golf's been mildly tuned (about 335BHP) and is genuinely proper quick off the mark with its clever power distribution computer jiggery pokery.  Enough acceleration to tear your eyeballs out and great internal fit and finish.  The problem with it, if it has a problem (this applies to the S3 too which is the same car in drag isn't it?) is it's too good for its own good if that makes sense.  You feel a little too detached from the driving experience with so much computer intervention.  Grip is peerless, handling spot on and did I already say it's fast?  However, for a super hot hatch I think it's too refined, just too good for its own clever clogs self.  That will appeal to the (ahem) more mature driver I suspect more than the boy racer or even those of us remembering with fondness the RS escort or Sierra Cossie, the Mk1 Scooby (and Mk2....errr...and Mk3...err) and Toyota Supra.  They all shared that seat of the pants "prod the throttle and I will scare you witless (or something that rhymes with "witless" anyway...) feeling.

The Monaro has that same (prod the throttle and I WILL kill you) scary appeal to me and for £10K you get a good 'un with sorted transmission and all the minor mods for over 450BHP if that's what you want.

I suspect that the RS will appeal to more people for several reasons...it'll be cheaper (eventually), it'll have that ford recipe, or at least heritage of being a seat of the pants drive, even if it is as refined as the Golf or S3, so I think it'll do well.  As BossFox says, Ford have always been good at these types of car.

As for me...I'll stick with my little oap machine in the vRS Fab.  It'll still be running long after the others have started shedding reliabiliy and costing squazillions to keep on the road.

I'm bound to get flamed, but I can't see the point of any of these 300bhp+ hatches for UK roads, other than bragging rights. Having that kind of power and not being able to make use of all of it legally would frustrate the hell out of me.

It's an entirely different matter if you regularly intend to take to the track, though... :-)

This is all very well but who can afford £500 a year in road tax

£10 per week.

How many people afford to smoke?

It's far more expensive.

That's £10 a week like smoking you will never see again and for no again what so ever will added cost of rising fuel prices and insurance which is a big killer for me !! [emoji20] it all adds up

I'm just spitting my dummy out I love cars like this but u will never own one [emoji22]

I see your point, but we are talking about the cost of running/owning a car.

People on this forum buy a new Octavia and it loses £5,000 in depreciation alone in the first year.

£5,000 up in smoke to drive a new car instead of buy one a year old.  Ten times as much.

I guess it's all about priorities and having the money.

People buying or leasing these cars (£30k) can afford the £500 per year, it becomes more of an issue when they are older and cheaper.

Factor in insurance, petrol, depreciation and the £500 road tax is actually not that much out of what a new car like this costs.

10% or less I suspect.

I thought I'd seen the Mustang as being in Band I and that has the same engine and power as the RS. £225.

I also see your point I guess I'm missing there target audience I guess it is for people who are a bit older than myself

But why go a r400 when one day this will pull up beside you

http://m.gtspirit.com/2015/05/15/official-510hp-volkswagen-golf-r500-by-oettinger/

I believe that Golf 500R comes with a rather large price tag, costing similar money to several Golf 400R.

Well, I know what it cost to build my Yeti to pretty much exactly the same 510bhp spec using the same engine and it wasn't cheap.

And that doesn't have the additional cost for the bodywork and individual tuner "wow" profit margin.

I'd must prefer a 510bhp yeti with a ttrs engine was it I believe but than again you own a gtr to with similar power and a fleet of green skodas from what I've heard who cares it's only money you can't take it with you [emoji23]

The more I see this car, the more I like it.

Hoping it's worthy competition to the haldex equipped slightly safe feeling offerings from VAG.

Hope you got your deposit back from Audi

In the right colour I think it will look great

Give one to Ken Block.

If it wasn't so *obvious* I'd like it too. It's not a thing of beauty, and your whole village is going to know your coming! Bet it's bloody hilarious to drive though, in every sense.

To be fair that's part of the package to me.  And they already know I'm coming anyway. :giggle:

I want a car that doesn't blend in with all the mudane things on the road in boring colours.

It's the reason I prefer the styling of the RS and the Type R to the Golf R and S3.

It's also the reason I hate the new polished primer colour VAG are slapping on all kinds of stuff.

I like a bit of colour.

Was emailing the director of a Ford dealership I've dealt with for years. He's a total Ford nut.

He told me it's looking like the price is going to be about £33500 for the mk3 RS, but that would go up depending on what colour or upgrades you wanted.

It's just starting to look a bit more expensive than first thought.............

He's took solid deposits for 3, and he THINKS he has another 2 coming. I could bag one but I'm not sure I'm comfortable chopping in my mint mk2 RS mp350 PLUS potentially up to another £20k depending on what the mk2 values do prior to the mk3 launch this time next year?
