vrs clutch started slipping whats best replacement?

Featured Replies

Hi folks, whats the best replacement for my vrs clutch?

I think it still has a DMF installed, It has a stage one map on it. I thought the standard clutch would be fine with stage one but after 3 weeks with remap it had started slipping, although I don't know that it has ever had a new clutch and it's on 120k so if it's still the original I cannot blame it

any help appreciated,

its 1.9tdi pd, asz

cheers

mike

Mine was the original clutch when i had it mapped and soon as i left the mapper it was slipping.

I put a new sachs dmf and clutch kit on it from cp4l for just ove 300 notes and its still spot on. Been on over 18 months now iirc and done near 40k.

If your just planning on stage 1 map stick with original. Any more get dmf and uprated clutch from sachs which is a tad more expensive.

If going bt/hybrid smf kit from darkside or helix prob your best bet

Hth

As above, oe sachs kit will be fine if staying stage one.

Or the kits xman is selling on here would be a good upgrade in case you do go to a hybrid turbo in the future, and not much more expensive than a standard sachs kit :)

If you search ebay LUK dmf's are available with 5 year warranty if you want some peace of mind for just over £200, then just get a clutch kit of your choice to fit :)

I see you are on about replacing the flywheel as well? why is this? the flywheel seems ok, no clattering etc,

Because it won't be ok much longer and the labour cost involved outweighs the cost of replacing it at the same time as the clutch itself, you should also replace the release bearing and the clutch slave at the same time. Because 120k is 120k.

labour not a problem, will be doing it myself. I see your point though and when doing a clutch the release bearing should always be replaced. If I went on like that though I'd be replacing most parts on the car,

in saying that since owning it for around 6months, it's had a starter motor, drop links, wishbone bushes, dogbone bush, steering arms and t/rod ends plus wheel alignment, aux belt, 2 tyres, full service all filters wipers etc... so yeah suppose it is showing its age lol

Get help when doing thr clutch! The box is damn heavy.

Youll meed to remove the subframe too for space so another alignment will be needed.

Replacing a dmf really should be a std thing imo as they are not the strongest items but unless you are ok with the gearbox making a terrible rattling noise nearly all the time you need a dmf to keep it quiet.

ahh *******s, I totally forgot about it being a 6 speed box  :wall:  I had the subframe off just before winter so hopefully be alright the ARB bolts were close to snapping with all the corrosion from holes in subframe. Cheers for the help fellas, will look into getting a flywheel as well then, Has anyone had to replace the metal coolant pipe that runs into engine behind oil filter? and the power steering pipe that runs along g-box side to the rack? as both mine are showing a lot of corrosion, If so any idea best place for replacements?

I have a 05 fabia vrs which have recently applied a pd170 hybrid turbo including a airtrch front mount, straight threw pipe and an egr delete. I am wanting a stage 2 map suitable for the turbo however i have recently herd the clutch slipping slightly in mostly 3rd and 4th gear. I have been lookin for a new 1 but am abit unsure what i will need for this sort of power touching 250bhp. Could anybody advice me of a half decent clutch that if possible will not tap like most iv herd.

Thanks

OEM Sachs DMF with Sachs SRE clutch if you don't want chatter. They are about £1100 fitted.

What is the hell is a 'stage 2' map, surely you're remapped already?

There is no way on gods green earth that you'll get 250 BHP out of that setup, the power output of the car is completely dictated by the turbo and the map, nothing else you bolt on to it will make a blind bit of difference.

Get a clutch friendly remap and fit a brand new standard Sachs clutch kit and DMF.

Stage 2 indeed, there's no such thing.

It will be 250bhp with a remap its just not set up yet iv spoke to DERV TECH they are doing the custome tuning onit. It just has a hybrid pd170 no map. Just woundering what cluthch kit i will need when mapped and ino it will pull 250 bhp after mappin cause my nates had his done ther with exact same setup

Please reply with words that a sane person can understand! Feel free to put up the plot from your 250bhp tune once done - if that's the case my GTB2260 is going to make mine 400bhp. Can't wait.

My mates car is runnin 248 frm derv tech. If u think am talkin **** then think that but i no diff. Not every1 talks **** yano i am js woundering a decent clutch t buy not arguin about anything. Js abit of advice would help

What the torque going to be like and is it goin to be as spikey as a pd150 hybrid. If so then maybe a paddle clutch and dmf will be needed for the power you say you could be running.

Think my screen is broken as that looks like a blur rather than a language.

hybrid is a loose term much like "stage 400 remap". Do you know the spec of the hybrid? If it's just the VC compressor wheel then you do know the pd170 compressor wheel is only 0.3mm larger than a pd150 compressor wheel?

You would have to run around 2.4 bar to get 250bhp.

Or,let the people mapping it run it on there rolling road, then the print out can say what you want to see ;)
