230 Bhp Vrs

Featured Replies

I think the main problem for us on PCP deals is that a 220 is on 0% and the 230 is on 4%.i have just ordered a replacement for my 220 and speced up to the 230 except for leather seats. Price difference minimal but add in the 4% the 230 was another £100 a month. Really couldn't justify the extra cost

And the 230 is excluded from the free £500 preloaded credit card.

Wonder if the configurator has a sister, could be popular going down as often as it does.

  • Well here she is !  Over the moon with it.   Missing roof rails though and have been told that they should have been there and to await a bulletin from skoda about them ( mind you i like it without

Trouble is, we want the leather memory seats, & once you include all the extra toys from the 230 onto your 220, then the 230 is cheaper to buy.

I don't intend to use a PCP, just buy the car with money, so choosing the 230 over the specced-up 220 is a no-brainer.

But I hate the "Extreme" wheels............

DC

Surely if it's just the wheels the dealer would change these for you or you could swap with someone on here?

Wrong comment, I was replying to post no. 672 from "pipsypreturns" which was basically blank....

I understood your comment, which is valid, especially as the Listers car would sell for £33865 at list.

TTFN, DC

Sorry DC i must have got disturbed when replying and hit reply without typing anything.

I think I was probably just going to advise sourcing an as close to base spec 230 via the cheapest broker going and selling your mk2 privately.

The Mk3 is rather a depreciation disaster at the moment....your 30ish K 230 likely being worth nearly half that at 12 months..whereas the Mk2's hold up quite well and you'll probably do better selling it privately than PXing it.

So really spend as little on the 230 as you have to, get as much for the Mk2 as you can.

And the 230 is excluded from the free £500 preloaded credit card.

I've been told otherwise, by a dealer today.

Thanks - you may be right, I apologise.

I'm sure I was told it was excluded from the big event, it certainly wasn't on 0% finance, and I thought it was excluded from the free fuel. I could be wrong as I wasn't paying much attention to the car tbh.

Thanks for good advice, we will probably go for a Columbus, winter pack  & spare wheel, as cheap as possible, & hang onto it for 5 years, should I live so long.

Not so sure about selling the vRS privately, it seems to be valued at £7,500 by the stealers, maybe raise a little more from a private sale.

I've been told by 'er indoors, that you can't see the wheels when your are driving the car, so stop worrying.

You would need to keep the wheels to resell the car, especially to the "youngsters" that are it's target market.

I just want to throw this one out there re the 230.

Do you need the space of the Octavia? If not, then why not consider the Audi S3 or Golf R? If buying on a PCP then due to their higher residual values these may actually work out a lot cheaper to run.

Or if you want the space, how about the Seat Leon Cupra ST? 280 or 290 but only FWD.

And of course, the Golf R is now available as an estate as well.

Just some food for thought.

We have considered the alternatives, the S3 is a bit hard-core for a couple of OAP's, Golf R estate is pricey although we do have an interesting Carwow offer from a VW dealer.

The "R" does need few expensive options when compared with the vRS 230.

I did suggest a Leon ST, answer no way, too bland / cheap inside + as a carry-all, her current Octy Hatch has more space.

We are not looking for ultimate performance, more a nice combination of space, pace, comfort & nice toys, & the 230 gets quite close to satisfying our requirements.

FWIW, we did get a test drive today in the black 230 estate that's for sale at Darlington Skoda.

It's not right for us, we've decided that we want a red hatch with toys, but it's nice car to drive, nippy, good enough interior quality, & very easy to drive slowly in traffic, as well as

scooting along the country roads.

They are quoting 2800 miles as it's current mileage, not true, that's the trip mileage!  It's covered a little more than 4500 miles as of this date, & is averaging about 29 mpg.

Not too encouraging, but it has been driven & enjoyed by the current users.

HTH, DC.

I'd agree the leon ST has a pretty unexciting interior, do it's all about the performance.

Agreed, but for 'er indoors, the interior is important too.

After all, a pair of OAP's don't really need 280 ps to trundle down to the garden centre, do we...............................?

Her remapped Octy only (!) made 261 ps, & that's usually enough!

What she wants is a more up-to-date car with the useful stuff that'sin my Superb, & the vRS 230 seems to be a good enough answer for her wants / desires.

I'm talking to the dealer later today, I'll recheck & report back.

Btw just in case you hadn't realised but you don't have to spend the £500 on fuel. It's a prepaid debit card so you can spend it on whatever you choose...

Just to update on my earlier post, i have been using Carwow to get some quotes (with the toys i want on each car), then taking the residual values for the cars below from the manufacturers finance calculators (will always be the same as they ignore any extras) and working out a PCP deal based on £3000 up front cost (p/ex or deposit), 10,000 mpa over 3 years. here's where i have got to;

Golf R estate £530 p/m at 6.7% apr (although may be available at 4.9% apr)

Golf R 5 door (man) £440 p/m at 4.9% apr

Audi S3 (man) £444 p/m at 6.7% apr

Audi S3 (auto) £468 p/m at 6.7% apr

Focus RS £492 p/m at 5.8% apr (no discount available)

VRS 230 estate (man) £451 p/m at 4.9% apr

VRS 230 estate (DSG) £471 p/m at 4.9% apr

So all rather interesting at present.

Right. Where is the vRS R?

My vRS TDi is approaching her second birthday and hasn't missed a beat. With dropping fuel prices and less time in the office, I can justify a petrol but want a proper hot hatch. The boy racer in me wants the Civic Type R, but I really want a hot vRS, mainly as:

1/. Mine hasn't missed a beat.

2/. I really like the look of the Octavia (bit bizarre, but each to their own)

3/. I was daft enough to fork out for a vRS plate!

Dislike the look of the Focus, Leon looks dull and Audi too pricey, which leaves me with Tupe R & vRS, but with Skoda's PCP suspect vRS will be much cheaper again.....

I assume the high VRS price is due to the low GFV at the end?

I was looking at a similar thing with a Superb 4x4 L&K and it was similar

An octavia looks better than the Leon?? No way! Octy vrs is a sheep in wolf's clothing, Leon opposite.

Manual Golf R or S3....DSG if you really have to have it seem the best options.

No doubt their residuals are the best of the bunch....the R estate is a bit leftfield and I doubt will sell well comparitively so wagering its 3 year resale wont be so hot.

That's how I interpreted it. Poor residual value on the Skoda more than off sets the higher sale price of the other cars.

Octavia has bad resale? Wow, didn't realise, I thought it retained value well

These figures are interesting, especially since we are still shopping for a new car.

But, if we don't want to use income to buy a car, 'cos "we are poor pensioners" but do have spare capital which

we'd sooner spend than leave to the dogs home, then just how important are residuals?

Given that we like to keep our cars for up to 5 years & that Skoda's are still cheaper than most other VW Group cars, is it

possible that a Skoda is good value after all?

If we are still around in 5 years time, & we want to change again, then we wouldn't expect the residual value of an existing

car to make a major contribution to the cost of the next one.

Different strokes, etc.

yep different strokes. The residual is only really relevant here if you are doing a Pcp. As you say over 5 years when you are buying it the residuals aren't as important.

Cannot agree, vRS 230 does look like it's stolen it's wheels from a Tonka Toy, but the basic vRS is just a smarter Octavia.

The Leon is just too small to be a proper mid-size hatch / estate & is always going to be let down by the current bland cockpit.

It pains me to admit it, but the Golf is still the best all-round car in the medium size MQB range, unless you need the greater space offered by the

Octavia.

If Skoda could be persuaded to up their game, interior quality-wise especially, then choosing a vRS rather a GTi, would be easier even if it did cost £1k more.

DC

These things ate personal but to my eyes the vrs is overdressed and the 230 overdone for a warm hatch. I preferred the Leon understated stealth appearance. Interior of course a different matter. Golf R is just ugly to my eyes, just as the superb makes the passat look overly fussy and dowdy.
