I think Jorge needs to ride for someone else and win there, for him to be remembered as one of the greats. Likewise for Marc in years to come.

Yup, it's even more annoying that really, it's **** all to do with Marquez, he should be riding his own race and letting everyone else crack on with theirs

  • Is it just me, or does anyone else chuckle every time Marc falls off trying to stick with Vale?

  • WOW!!! Absolutely amazing race, and a battle we've all waited to see for so long.   What a brilliant race and a fitting tribute to #39    Lovely to see Valentino and Marc shake hands at last.   I

and 2018 :)

If Honda don't get their act together with the bike, I can see Jorge running away with the season by a long way. Which I definitely don't want to happen!

I can't see Danny keeping his seat for much longer either, unless he starts putting in more consistent top pace to stay with the guys up front. It'll be a shame when this does eventually happen, as he's a great guy and has had so much bad luck over the years.

What a debacle the Moto2 race was.  Not going to spoil it for those that have not seen it so enough said.

I've got a question about winglets on fairings.

Now some of them, notably the Ducati uppers, look like they should generate force normal to the winglet, and "down towards the tyres". How does that work when you're banked over at 60 degrees then? Surely the "down" force has become "side" force pushing you off the track?

Im not an aerodynamicist but I am a design engineer and I would have to agree that the force generated would go from vertical to lateral when at full tilt 60° + angle.

However it might have been engineered so that at cornering speeds the wings generate negligible down force and thus don't produce unwanted side load. I suppose that begs the question why have them in the first place because they don't need front end grip on the straights doing top speed and the drag from the wings would outweigh any increase in the tyre performance I would think.

If you listen to the commentary on the races the general opinion seems to be there is no discernible difference but they don't make it worse so why not use them?  There must be some serious testing by Ducati to then put a second pair on and then the ones on the Yamaha look like tea trays!

There is also talk about the being banned in Moto3.  I think it is safe to say at the moment the jury is out on the use of them one way or another but I cannot see them adversely affecting the lateral grip of the tyres because if they did they would not be used at all.

John McPhee on a Peugeot ?!?*?

Track so dirty and times therefore so slow relatively.

MotoGP out in the next few minutes.

Moto3 guys (and gals) stayed on lets hope MotoGP will to and raising wwill be closer on this twistier track.

Stoner considered subbing on the Pramac this week.

Pirro is flying out to ride it instead.

Weird to see Viñales shaking his head as he get blocked by Rossi as 46 is half a second or so off the 25 pace.

Lorenzo even more so as the track seems to be unsettling many of the riders but particularly those who like a stable platform to ride on and those riders who cope better on seat of the pants stuff doing better.

FP3 and qualify will hopefully be much more talented based than Qatar when initial Ducati power and then Yamaha sorted chasis on a billiard smooth track took away the opportunity to see rider talent come to the fore.

Hondas doing well.  Jack Miller ridding is poetry, dare I say a bit Stoneresque?

I think 46 smashed 25 in qualifying -no?

Shameful product from Michelin.

How can they put the riders at risk like that?

Just like Indy 2005 when Michelin nearly killed Ralf Schumacher with shoddy tyres that weren't up to the job.

Rossi did well though he did look very worn compared to the others.

Marquez was a clear winner at nearly 0.4 seconds faster than anyone and perhaps Lorenzo feeling a bit second hand after his massive crash.

Vinales was closer to Lorenzo than Lorenzo was to Marquez.

Vinales is a work in progress and quite possibly a future great according to Rossi.

I think the whole delaminating was handled quite well, better than the Bridgestone debacle at Philip Island and hopefully, with the new advice will not spolit the race as it did in Philip Island with Bridgestone's issues there.

It is a new supplier at new tracks as Colin Edwards said and the Ducati does produce some massive power and will show up issues.

Michelin has more experience in race tyres than anyone, hence the choice of Audi for their Le Mans 24 hour and other Endurance events, they will get it right and thankfully no one hurt in this prototype sports activity, these guys are test pilots basically and putting 270 hp or so through the contact patch of post-it note is a marvel.

I love Michelin tyres, except the price.

Interesting comment during the red flag halt yesterday, the two catastrophic failures were Baz,then Scott Redding the two biggest and heaviest riders,I am sure we will learn more in time but not a good start when all the riders must be waiting for the bang!

And both Ducati riders which produces the most HP if the speeds are to be interpreted as related to power.

Well done Chas, Tom and Johnathan in WSB, Brits ruling the podium.

Sadly MotoGP looking like Spanish dominating with maybe an Italian featuring.

Well you were spot on,I think Rossi was in with a shot till the bike swop, think may have been some strong words at Ducati after the race.

Not great for my blood pressure!!

I think the problem with the tyres will need some very careful investigation it they want to ensure that there is confidence in the product.  It may well be a tyre pressure issue as they say it was with Baz's bike before but apparently the ECU can tell them what the tyre pressures were so that should be easily checked.  It could also be something wrong with the bike and caused the hugger to rub the tyre  Don't forget Hernadez's bike was way out of line with the back wheel and it caused a failure.

Plenty to check up on and it was only one tyre that went pop so lets not condemn Michelin just yet until more is known.

Michelin aren't amateurs, they'll sort it. Teething problems are to be expected

but are not acceptable under any circumstances on 220mph motorbikes!

Edited by camelspyyder

I agree Camel 'if' it is shown that it wasn't the team running it at too low a pressure or the bike wasn't at fault.  Innocent until proved guilty should still apply to my mind.

but are not acceptable under any circumstances on 220mph motorbikes!

Did you watch different coverage to everyone else, or are yours actually crystal?

Everyone else seems to think (myself included) that we won't know until the dead tyre is returned to Clermont Ferrand for full analysis.

Michelin killed Formula 1 at Indianapolis by not supplying suitable rubber. Aside from rider safety, forcing bike changes mid race is farcical and undermines MotoGP's product and credibility. I bet Dorna have penalty clauses in the contract with Michelin that are being looked at as closely as the tyre debris.
