Perhaps you will get the bigger unit if you order the smartlink and the rest of us will get the smaller unit.

I wonder how Skoda UK would handle people rejecting the car based on them not being delivered as ordered?

Hmm. Not sure that would work out. After all, the car would still be fit for purpose. Compensation of some description is likely all you could hope for.

It will depend what was in the order form the op signed.

Unless it stipulated a larger screen then it's not a legally binding agreement.

The op will gave signed for a vehicle in a colour, with a particular colour and engine/ gearbox plus any extras he wanted (Columbus, tinted windows etc)

If the car is delivered to that order then, can't be ejected over screen size

Precisely. It's not on the order form

Should find out later this month or so I'm told

Right just to give you an update.  Had a lengthy chat with Skoda UK about the state of their marketing materials and how searching for smartlink comes up with an international website (skoda-auto.com) which shows only 6.5" units and columbus being compatible with smartlink.  SUK say that as these are non uk sites that what they say does not apply to the UK market, pretty useless considering that a search of "skoda smartlink" only shows up details which do not apply to the uk market.

Skoda uk confirmed that the unit for MY16 is "MIB2" that there are differences internally between this new unit and the current ones on pre MY15 cars.  However the screen size WILL BE 5.8" SUK said it was "MIB2" as they have made changes to how the unit updates map data through downloads rather than costly CD's (I don't think I believe them as I think current MIB1 units also update maps for free on SD card?)

Anyway, I tried a different tack and went along the lines that Apple Car Play has minimum requirements of an 800x480 screen and a minimum size of 6" from the link below, I explained that's why I think the Skoda-auto.com site does not list the older 5.8" screened Amundsen and Bolero on their Smartlink compatability list and that I would be ****ed(!) if I received my car having paid for smartlink and it not actually working for anything.

They are escalating about these requirements and are going to get back to me at the end of the week.

It continues...

MIB1 units' nav data are updated through SD cards...

Yeah I thought that too. 20mins in the guy I was speaking to was getting increasingly flustered!

Im glad to be a CZ citizen for the first time... Seems like SUK knows nothing about Skoda cars...

So, suk are trying to say they've hot a different upgrade from seat vw and audi? I reckon mib 2 will have the same size screen regardless of brand. You couldnae make this up

SUK appear to be no better informed than their dealers. It's as if VAG send them cars with no information and SUK say, "Right, what do we do with these things then? They've got round things on the bottom, maybe they're supposed to roll? Oh, they're *wheels*!"

The chances of the UK getting a different model to the entire rest of the world and VW, Seat and Audi in the UK seems pretty remote.

I think we are slowly moving from the days when cars were all about engines, transmissions and torques. To now where it's like talking about the new version of ios or Android. Where cars didn't used to change a huge deal over the course of a life cycle, software changes at such a more rapid pace that these old support processes can't cope with the rate of change.

as long as upgrading to MY16 doesn't mean the whole thing slows to the point of being unusable without a total factory reset (android lollipop)

I wonder if this is an issue confined to the vRS - the amundsen is standard on the SEL, L&K etc but an option on the VRS. So if they are just shifting the old MIB1 models to clear stock then adding them free of charge would be a good way to do that. But surely you could opt to have the latest Bolero with the bigger screen rather than a smaller screen old generation amundsen?

SEL orders include the amundsen as standard and so might (I hope) get the MIB2.

might explain the confusion.

Yes, can't wait to see an SE L car in the flesh at a dealer which will be the best indication of what tech is in the new MY16.

since we're both in West Lothian you can come and see mine. being built next week or so West End have been told

Yup this is what I am trying to get to the bottom of with skoda UK. Very conflicting information which they don't really know about either.

They recently said to me that the smartlink page is not a UK site so can't be taken as the rule for UK cars..

That's pretty poor if skoda can't get their message across..

So on one hand they say an official Skoda-Auto.com page is wrong (maybe they should get skoda-auto to be careful of what they post....If region specific..... its pretty clear smartlink=6.5").

Then on the other hand they seem to be guessing the UK spec.

If I was paying extra for it I'd be expecting Smartlink & 6.5" screen.

Why not....One of the optional extras was mis-sold. At a minimum I would refuse to pay the Smartlink option price.

Domhall ordered Smartlink based on "I ordered MY 16 once I heard from my dealer that there were the bigger screens and smartlink (I ordered the smartlink option). "

Official Skoda media outlets also show Smartlink=6.5" screen

http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/experience/product-features/smartlink

https://media.skoda-auto.com/en/_layouts/Skoda.PRPortal/pressrelease.aspx?ID=828

"The Octavia will feature the Bolero and Amundsen infotainment systems with larger, higher resolution screens: the displays have increased in size from 5.8 to 6.5 inches – 800x480 resolution."

I'd be printing hard copies for reference.

Missing the point, doesn't matter what was alleged to have been said, it's what you put your signature to. If that doesn't specifically state the screen size, you haven't got a leg to stand on. The web site for the UK, for example, still States 5.8 inch screen, the media portal is a worldwide portal and stares that specs can be different in different countries. Unless you have placed an order for a 16my with larger screen, and have a brochure for your car with the 6.5 inch screen (currently the UK for example still showing 5.8 inch screen) you can't win that argument

This is my point. All I can argue against right now is that smartlink won't work with the smaller screen.

That's my only option... Or upgrade to a columbus.
