MY16

Missing the point, doesn't matter what was alleged to have been said, it's what you put your signature to. If that doesn't specifically state the screen size, you haven't got a leg to stand on. The web site for the UK, for example, still States 5.8 inch screen, the media portal is a worldwide portal and stares that specs can be different in different countries. Unless you have placed an order for a 16my with larger screen, and have a brochure for your car with the 6.5 inch screen (currently the UK for example still showing 5.8 inch screen) you can't win that argument

I understand what your saying but clearly what people are being told they are getting...and what they may actually get are different. I think a number of people have placed what they believe to be MY16 orders with 6.5" screens.

The documents they are signing are under false pretences (the dealers clearly dont know either).

Annoyingly when I was looking for confirmation of the new unit I specifically asked if it was an MIB2 unit (and not a 6.5" MIB2 unit) so I made a mistake there...

They are not if the order form doesn't specifically state 5.8 or 6.5 inch screens, that is not under false pretences as the order form doesn't state it, just octavia etc...

If you look at even the brochures, there us always a statement to the line of things may change or be different in a specific market.

I gave a 16my coming and from my point of view I'm not really bothered what size screen it's got, the 17my will be different again etc. I ordered, however, with dark glass and that Is In the order.

Fair enough but some people are interested...and went to the hassle of verbally asking the questions about the spec before they put pen to paper.

Im sure lots of information is NOT on the order form, that doesnt mean it cant b missold.

Btw if a dealer didn't factory fit your sunset glass and got a local guy to do it afferwards would you be happy with what you ordered? Your car will have its tinted glass !!!!

Its fair to say there is a lot of questions relating to spec, theres a lot of conflicting information fom Skoda Auto/UK/IE brochures. Its a bit of a joke really.

@Lamholam (and others that are getting overly stressed over this) would you have still ordered the car if there was no mention of bigger screen and Smartlink capability? Probably yes? Worst case you'll get the car with a 5.8in screen and no Smartlink capability, a refund on a badly marketed option and if you're lucky some tokenary good will, no better or worse than as if larger screen and Smartlink were ever available.

(Not being funny but its really not worth getting so worked up over and spoiling you day/week/month)

Well, if I had the tinting done locally, it would be darker lol :-0

I took a gamble. I needed a new car so it was the time to order one. However I was very specific as to the time I ordered it to ensure that I was still getting the "free" Amundsen but that I would get a build date of after bw22 to ensure I would be getting the MY16 changes.

I figured as the golf had just had news of a new mib2 unit and news on the skoda sites mentioned mib2 and the fabia had just got mib2! The Octavia would be due mib2 too!

Also when I heard there was an actual smartlink option I took the hit and paid the extra uplift in MY16 prices to ensure I got smartlink added to the order.

Assuming that smartlink cars would have the 6.5" unit as that's what the aforementioned skoda auto website told me were the only units compatible with smartlink.

It was all very calculated!

@Lamholam (and others that are getting overly stressed over this)

Not really..just making the point that dealers are taking orders on something they clearly dont know what the final spec is...

even though they are being currently built.

People are being offered new features to accompany the price rise. MY16 spec was said to have 6.5" with Smartlink option. Some people may be restricted to the order timeframes and have to risk goimg ahead with order.

With the price of these cars they should really have a better handle on what on them.

Fair enough....but the point is it would not have been what you initially ordered.

Hehe! This is what I seem to do! "positive reinforcement" after a big purchase!

I've spent more time on the Web reading skoda reviews and forums than I did before I ordered it!

Not sure about Ireland, but Skoda UK were selling the 16my orders with the extra (to15my) acc and park assist at the 15my price fir orders placed prior to week 22

@GAFF The problem is only partly dealers and partly us smartie pants folks on the internet getting access to speculative information and drawing our own conclusions and taking a chance on what we *might* get if we timed the order right.

As far as Skoda is concerned the car they are selling you if you ordered in May, is what's in the may brochure. If you think you're getting otherwise or your signing up to a paid for option which isn't yet clearly documented in the UK brochure anywhere, you have to accept you're taking a chance on it.

For what its worth, I doubt Skoda have a 5.8in MIB2 unit that is Smartlink capable. I don't think they can afford to make so many variations. I think its quite binary for those that ordered Smartlink... You will either get MIB with 5.8in screen and no Smartlink and the hassle of asking for a refund or MIB2 with Smartlink enabled as expected.

As far as I can tell from the info I found on the Norwegian site, its lists Bolero as 5.8" and Amundsen as 6.5".

The smartlink option is not marked with any requirements regarding headunits.

For me I wasnt taking a chance. I made it very clear that I wanted Smartlink (for the past few months).....and was prepared to wait until it was confirmed.

I was assured it would be in an MY16 June build and so couldnt delay any longer.

I tend to agree with you

Now that someone's mentioned tinting, can anyone recommend a tint shop in NW London? And for that matter a good place to get decent paint protection done. Or what to look for in a good service provider for each.

I decided too late that I should have got Sunset glass and now also realised post production tinting has certain advantages over factory fitted tinted glass.

As for paint protection I figure I can get a better job done elsewhere, for less money.

Ask the local car dealers who they use for tinting. That's what I did with the Freelander, asked local Landy dealer who they used

I bet every car built from week 22 gets the newer MIB2 units....even those vRS's that got free Amundsen.

Even still....id you've ordered Smartlink and the order has been accepted by the factory...given Smartlink isnt available on MIB1 units I think its a pretty sure thing. Id just stop worrying about it personally.

since we're both in West Lothian you can come and see mine. being built next week or so West End have been told

Interesting! Will have to have a livi meet up when we get our cars.

@domhnall, looks like lamholam wants to be your new best friend :-D

For both of your sake I hope this friendship isn't going to be about moping over / drinking away your sorrows over MIB2 / 6.5in screen / Smartlink ;-)

I suspect there will be a lot of "my car makes this funny noise..." Or "my car does that weird thing..." Followed by "is that normal?" I.e a more traditional version of what happens on this forum but over a few pints. Can't say I'm not jealous! ;-)

Don't forget to share your experiences with the rest of us!!

Now now. I may be getting a bit (obsessively?) chatty about this right now waiting for my car but like most people on here I believe that I should know what I am getting to set my expectations before I turn up at my dealer only to be disappointed when I plug in my Nexus5 or iPhone and find that it won't read my text messages (something that I would find very useful when driving my car and keeping my eyes on the road)

Considering this will be a 6 year commitment for me and phone integration is quite important I would like to ensure it works (and not have to be annoyed that I did not get all the information when I had the chance to do so before I took delivery)

That coupled with the very poor information that skoda as an organisation posts for us as consumers to see, I believe I have legitimate concerns about what they are saying to me and what actually is the "truth" of the matter.

I hope I haven't offended anyone and that, at the end of the day is all a bit of banter and collective knowledge gathering that will help someone who also doesn't have a clue about Skodas conflicting world wide communications policies.

I hope I haven't offended anyone

Well Im certainly not offended, this is the MY16 thread, this is turning into quite a battle to get the actual MY16 changes confirmed for Ireland / UK/ Europe, I find it extremely hard to believe that the dealers are in the dark as they appear to be, I'm beginning to wonder if they are trying to push MY15 cars to the uninitiated, which I was until recently I was never aware of WK22, and having never bought new before it was never an issue as I was always able to physically inspect my exact purchase. I have a feeling this may get dragged out until someone here actually takes delivery of an MY16 O3, and even then it may be market dependent.

i always bought my cars as either ex demos or about 1 year old. it was simple, you turned up looked at the car and bought it if it was what you wanted. this will be my first new car and it hasnt gone well. i still dont know what im getting or when im getting it, i thought buying a new car would be easier. I think skoda have dropped the ball on this big time.
