According to Wonkipaedia, Android Auto can allow access to the car's mobile and GPS antennae, GPS system and compass. However even if Skoda bother to implement this I doubt they're going to fit the relevant antennae and compass unless you also order Bluetooth+ and satnav, which would somewhat defeat the point :-(

Got emailed from dealer to say my "MIB2" car will definitely have a 5.8" screen... What that means is uncertain but I will be phoning Skoda UK to get to the bottom of it...

I thought all MIB2 were larger screen.

I thought all MIB2 were larger screen.

That was my impression. In all my searching on the Internet I have not seen any references to a 5.8" mib2 unit.

Also if what is to be believed on the May brochure for the Octavia, the 5.8" low resolution screen on the Amundsen can have smartlink added as an option. Smartlink allows apple car play. HOWEVER apple car play minimum requirements are for a 6" high resolution screen of which the advertised Amundsen screen does not pass on any level.

Skoda somewhere is miss advertising and I am more realistically inclined to think that Smartlink will only have some sort of reduced functionality on the MY16 octavia :(

CarPlay etc as far as I know just needs a res of 800x480 which can easily fit in a 5.8 inch screen, I believe that the screen will be 6.5 inches as shown on the Czech site, I can't see the logic in supplying 2 differing boleros

There's only one pic online and I have seen material on the dealers screen showing 6.5 inch screen for the newer cars. This is the pic - same radio as the Passat. I don't think there would be a difference between UK and Irish specs in that regard.

From the solid month or so of scouring the Internet searching for octavia news while I wait for my car I fear that logic does not factor into Skoda UKs decision...

Where was that pic from?

Seems they don't know. Skoda Ireland have the details circulated since last week apparently.

MIB2 Bolero and Amundsen will be 6.5". If you look on the configurator the units look has changed just SUK's people at the coalface are not that well informed at this point but whats new there!

Interested in which configurator you are referring to as the uk one still specifically says 5.8"

I tried redownloading the Octavia brochure from the SUK website this evening and ended up with the April version again! It would be nice if they could get an up to date brochure out with some semblance of accuracy.

My (conspiracy) theory is that SUK has decided to play the hero and offered to help Skoda clear their inventory of MIB units hence the free Amundsen on the vRS. Possibly if you don't upgrade to Smartlink, you'll get MIB for an early MY16 car and only get MIB2 if you pay the £150 upgrade.

That would also explain why SUK are adamant that Smartlink is only a factory fitted option.

Or SUK just doesn't have a clue what's going on!!

I think that too..

The Norwegian pricelist (dated 20th of may) lists the Bolero with a 5.8" screen. But at the same time lists Smartlink as an available option for all models.

But it also has an option called Wifi-hotspot, seperate from both smartgate and smartlink. Anyone knows what functionality that brings?

Gromle's comment suggests that the confusion is not just a UK thing. I'm increasingly convinced that Smartlink for £150 is more than just enablement of the Smartlink feature it's also gets you the new generation HW which is a key enabler for Smartlink.

Note some pictures of the new hardware can be found here...

Note how details of the bigger screen version of the Hardware is only found in the Smartlink section.

Yes that's the site I mentioned to skoda UK about how the 5.8" screen does not appear to support smartlink. Will see what they say.

@lamholam I recall you paid to get Smartlink? What are you worrying about? One way or another you'll get it (probably with an MIB2). The rest of us may get stuck with outdated HW though :-s

Can't feel confident about it until I get some confirmation. At the moment I am worried they will just give me an mib1 unit a with smartlink (which would not be compatible) I would be happier knowing now and not have to wait before I take delivery where the only choice may be "take it or leave it"

I was going to say "they can't charge you extra and not give you the very function you paid extra for" but then Skoda did withdraw support for Mirrorlink and issue refunds to those that specially paid extra to get that feature :-s
