MY16

Featured Replies

I tried a dealer who seemed clueless and also denied ever having heard that acc and park assist were free on the elegance!

That's why I was asking which dealers others had luck with.

Not sure the official system would be more help, previously had a dealer look something up and he seemed to be able to spec up any option (not just uk ones) but said he didn't think it would be definitive and said "not to rely on it"!

bought mine (as always) from Stuart at West End Garage in Dunfermline.  AFAIK I'm getting ACC and Park Assist free.

Thanks all finally got someone sensible at a dealers who thinks that the elegance a / SE-L are still coming with ACC and park assist based on a memo to dealers from 6 weeks ago.

The memo was very strangely worded, one implication could have been that ACC and park assist are shipping on all elegance's but if the customer specs them then let them pay as normal for options! Now I'm an untrusting soul so it's good to hear that those that have got them were told by the dealers they were free.

yup, confirmed mine yesterday after reading this thread, ACC and park assist still free though not clear if this will become permanent or will be withdrawn at some stage.

Why would it be withdrawn? I was told it's a late my15 spec change. Should be permanent.

they're in the brochure as optional extras, ie at cost

Is that the new brochure? They were fitted to my car free.

Yes, May brochure.

Silly question time...

So the Golf Mk7 has the same engine as the Octavia but I can see the Golf engines have much less power. What's the deal with that? What might Skoda have done to increase the power? Do those changes (negatively) impact the reliability/longevity of the engine?

Also any idea what's been done to get the extra power out of the same petrol engine in the Octavia MY16.

I've got SmartLink added to my order! :-)

When is your build? Mine is bw28

@Rodge and @lamholam what's the deal with smartlink. Is it just a straight £150 add on or was there some other add-on required as a prerequisite?

Also did you manage to find out whether it would be straightforward to add on Smartlink at the dealer if it wasn't added at factory?

Mine will be an MY16 car built in week 22. By the time I called to add on Smartlink it was too late as my configuration had already been locked [emoji20]

You got an example? Can't say I've noticed this.

Sorry I have no info at all on this. Would say the only prerequisite is that you have a MIB2 unit (which I think you do if you have MY16 car) after that I suspect that the smartlink add on is more of a license fee than more hardware for the MIB2 but I have no proof of that and am just taking an educated guess. Dealer said that it would not be retrofit able bit they also said that Smart gate would also not be retrofit able and AndyVee has already done this.

You got an example? Can't say I've noticed this.

See attached image which is an extract from the current Golf brochure at the top and the latest Octavia brochure at the bottom.

Seems the Golf has two different 1.4TSI engines one for S and Match and an uprated one for GT and R Line.which is equivalent to the one in the Octavia.

However you can see the Octavia's 1.2TSI has slightly more output than the equivalent Golf engine.

Skoda UK just don't bother to import the 85 PS 1.2 l engine. I believe it is available in other countries. The Skoda 110 PS 1.2 l engine is just the updated Euro 6 version of the 105 PS Euro 5 engine.

The 150 PS 1.4 l engines are not the same as the one used in the Golf has Active Cylinder Technology which shuts off two cylinders under low load to save fuel.

Hi all, been following along for a while, having ordered a hatchback 2.0 TDI DSG Elegance at the end of April with the free ACC and Park assist. I've been in touch by email with my dealer to try and get SmartLink added.

He's come back to me today with a revised order, maintaining the ACC + PA free of charge, with the SmartLink and a few other options I'd chosen. Interestingly this new order now start with 'OCTAVIA HATCH SE L' rather than Elegance, and is £290 cheaper on the base price of the car compared to the original order, so that went well  :nerd:

I don't know. My online not-a-dealer isn't able to tell me, or maybe he just can't be bothered to ask or doesn't know that he could ask his supplier. I was quoted 12-14 weeks for delivery, from 24 April.

It's just the straight £150 add on, so long as you have the MY16 MIB2* infotainment. I haven't asked if it's possible to retrofit as I was going to wait until I had the car before making enquiries. As far as I know it should just be software, so I don't see why it shouldn't be possible to add later. I don't think most dealers will really have any idea at this stage, as they've never seen a car with it fitted and we've probably read the new brochure and publicity material more thoroughly than they have.

* Does everyone else read that as Men In Black?

Did you get the hatch or the estate? I had to pay the privilege of another £100 on top of the smartlink as the estate had went up in price for MY16. If you got the hatch though you should be getting a discount as @steve_beds rightly pointed out its almost £300 cheaper!

Edited by Iamholam

It's the estate. When I said it was £150 I was assuming that MY16 prices were being paid and trying to make clear that no other options were required first. I seem to have got away without paying the extra on the estate list price, possibly because my supplier hasn't put his prices up yet. He's still listing prices based on MY15 on his website.

I would prefer not to say who it is, at least until I get hold of the car, as they tend to be shy of publicity. He is easily findable on a price search site such as Parker's or Honest John's, and appeared to be the most reputable of the cheaper options.

http://www.new-car-discount.com/faq (not my supplier) states:

"Money saving etiquette!

When comparing our new car prices against your local dealer we politely ask that you use some discretion, feel free to see what discounts you can achieve locally, but please refrain from mentioning our name or site. We often receive phone calls from disgruntled dealers pretending to be customers (wasting everybody's time) or taking complaints upstream to manufacturers in an effort restrict our discount ability. We would rather avoid upsetting any car dealers as these play an integral part in the industry providing test drives, servicing and future warranty work."

I find that a bit odd as their prices are widely advertised online.

Just had confirmation that my vrs is being built this week :(

And then a phonecall today saying its at the dealers and can be delivered Wednesday...

Update on progress left something to be desired then.

"We would rather avoid upsetting any car dealers as these play an integral part in the industry providing test drives, servicing and future warranty work"

If there is a more ****-taking statement on a car-discount website than the above, I've not found it yet.....  :D  :D  :D  :D

That sounds a little too physcoligical on the buyers part rather than anything to do with dealer relations. It makes the buyer feel they are doing something a little clandestine and that they are part of a special 'club' which you wouldn't want to break apart.

Finally got to order my new octavia today. Well excited. initally 7 week wait but will find out more in due course.

I ordered an 1.4tsi Elegance hatch from a broker on 27th April, and I see that it has now become an SE L in the new brochure. Park Assist and adaptive cruise are options on the SE L, but I noticed that some pre-ordered Elegance owners have been told by their dealers that both these options have been confirmed at no extra cost. Is it a lottery which model and spec I get?

Configurator is back up!!

Some new options added but no info on them! :-s

E.g. SE L plus pack... Any idea what that is? Seems to be included for free.
