MY16

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I've been lurking in the background for a while here.

I ordered a vrs estate on the PCH deal on the 25th March. I had a build date of week 23/24 so a MY16 car. The car got built week 23.

Got told it was at Emden on Friday, I rang SUK for an update and it had got to Grimsby today! Should be with me in 10 days!

@domhnall, I would chase your dealer sounds like they are spinning you a story about delays getting to the UK?

I asked SUK about screen size, she said she didn't know but was aware a few had asked. She did say there may be no official line from SUK as there may be a mix out there with early MY16 cars using old stock.

My car is standard as with no extras, if it comes with the bigger screen will it has smart gate?

Rather ironic, it can get from Embden to Uk port in 2 days, but takes 10 more to get to dealer from port !

My  "in Stock" order was allegedly sitting at Embden when I ordered 10 days ago, god knows were it is ... having said that I could do without picking it up until next week :)

What's the betting I get a call to let me know they want it picking up this weekend .... guess they will have to wait on me then :p

Crazy isn't it, I said that to the dealer. How come it takes 10 Days to get to you??

I've known my dealer for many years and he's not in the game of spinning lines, unusual I know but I know and trust him. As a family we've bought umpteen cars from him for over 15 years, he's as straight as they come.

As it happens he rang me tonight and explained that the 16 inch wheel option is in relation to certain diesels only, not petrol, I explained I wasn't too worried now as Skoda UK have adjusted the VED figures so that the 1.4 SEL is now in Band C anyway.

He also explained that the Emden thing is an issue for some cars, but not others and they have no way of knowing which cars are affected until it becomes an issue for that car. The problem appears to be storage space at the UK side. It was an issue for Sheerness but has now become an issue at Tyne, but it's pot luck whether your car is delayed or not it seems.  He's going to keep tabs on it but as I explained to him I'm in no hurry, I had always assumed his forecast of 1 month between placing the order and the car being built was wildly optimistic - but here we are 5 weeks after I signed the form and the car is sitting in Emden.

As for Smart Gate, no it's not determined by screen size, smart gate is a £150 option as is Smart link. If you want both you need to shell out the £300.  Skoda UK assured me this morning that as of week 22 the amundsen untis were the bigger screens with no CD player. I guess we need to await the first MY16 car to find out for ourselves. Who will be first?  :coffee:

The plot thickens!!!

Those that ordered Smartlink will likely get MIB2, but those that didn't order Smartlink may or may not get MIB2.

I reckon I posted that about 400 pages back but we all thought it was too complicated for SUK to manage  :D

@domhnall, I think I did too!

Now if only my car would hurrry up and get registered so I can find out my fate.

@RB79 great minds think alike.........etc

@domhnall I don't think the VED band on the 1.4TSI Elegance changed recently. It was band C when I ordered back at the end of March. Even published on that basis in the March/April brochure (not sure which I have at home). Although my interest/knowledge is in the DSG variant and not sure if you're referring to manual.

@RB79 the manual hatch was band C, the manual estate was band D. I debated the hatch but I've always thought the Octavia looks much better as an estate (and I speak as the former owner of two Mk 1 hatches) so I bit the bullet and opted to pay the extra tax. It now turns out the estate CO2 figure is 119 not 121. So they're all Band C. I'm not imagining it either we went through the figures in the showroom. The dealer checked a bulletin from Skoda UK when I was in yesterday and it said VED changes were for diesels only but he said you couldn't rule out SUK having got it wrong on petrols.

And today, hey presto! Band C for the 1.4 estate

@domhnall Your findings are no doubt true... My interest is in the hatch.

I do wonder where is the root cause of all these miscommunication issues. Is it SUK or are they getting bad info from Skoda HQ. If the latter I do wonder how they manage to build quality cars. Doesn't inspire much confidence! :-(

@RB79 it's a UK issue :-)

in my rather long experience of Skoda it used to be much better pre acquisition by VW!  :notme:

if it's confidence you need I wouldn't still be buying them if there were problems

to date I have had 1x Skoda Estelle 120L, 2x Skoda Favorit, 1x Skoda Felica 1.6, 3 x Octavia I, 2 x Octavia II and 1x Yeti

@domhnall Confidence... You nailed it! Your endorsement certainly helps.

I've seen this in a Yeti in the dealers without Nav in Bolero form. I don't think it's the one that will come with the Octavia but the internals are probably similar. It's just sized to fit the Yeti double din slot.

Its a MIB2 Columbus for cars adopting MQB electronic systems but without the chassis.....the Yeti has these, the Rapids are getting them as is the Scirocco for MY16.

Difference being is the guts are within the HU, whereas on proper MQB cars the headunit is a separate single DIN unit in the glovebox.

The dropping of the CD player is for numerous reasons....

Packaging - the improved internal hardware may make it difficult to also package a CD drive

Age - Given the units have SD, USB, Aux In and Apple device capbilities now (MIB2 units handle Apple via the USB...no longer require a specific "Mitsumi" connection) and the medium is getting on theyve probably made a "marketing" decision to no longer offer the functionality.

Cost saving - doing away with the internal drive no doubt makes the devices cheaper to produce.

They are undoubtedly going to be all round better than the MIB1 units otherwise so I think VAG can be forgiven for doing away with the CD drive.

My SE-L estate is being delivered to the dealer today, so I will go and have a look tomorrow (can't pick up until 29th when my contract is renewed) so will take some photos.

Anyone want (apart from the screen lol) any specific pictures?

Screen and climate controls would be great!

Can't remember if you had smartlink, but some idea what happens when you plug in your phone (no need for mitsumi) and how many usb ports would be cool.

is there a CD player too

As per domhnall, a view of the unit that sits in the glovebox so we can see what's the deal with CD, but also number of SD slots. I assume Amundsen will be 2 slots, one for maps, one for media.

Also, would be good to know whether your dealer has tried to register your car with the DVLA and if they've experienced issues I'm being told about.

Also have you started to look into insurance quotes and run into the same kind of issues I've mentioned earlier in the thread.

Tried to get it added, but was told it was too late, car was being built

Update on my car... dealer explained DVLA hoped to get their systems updated this week and I could do collection by Friday. Unfortunately DVLA now advise updates on their side will be done by Monday, so collection will have to be some time next week :-(

In meantime he's happy for me to come see the car (which he advised will probably still be in transportation stickers - not sure why lack of registration prevents PDI/prep for delivery), so I'll prob do that on Sunday. Hopefully by then we'll already have had some update from Warkman :-)

Update for my car, it's arriving at the dealership beginning of the week and should be ready for collection Wednesday / Thursday.

Naturally I've booked leave from work :-)

It looks like SUK may have had Mary Shelley working on a Frankentavia especially for you!

Looks like there might be some long waits for potential Octavia vRS owners.

I was told there are serious build restrictions in place for RS now. 16wk minimum order times, so if anyone in the Briskoda family is upset with their dealer.... it's not bull. RS more or less closed till 2016.

Also told that Smartgate is standard on RS SCOUT & L&K in Ireland   :clap:

That does not sound good...I've ordered three weeks ago today and haven't a build date yet. Might need to reconsider my choice I think.
