My Story - Advice Needed!

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I have been lurking on the forum for a few weeks and thought I should get a thread up.

Im 23, and from Berskhire and my list of cars owned are as followed:

Saxo VTR - First car - Loved it to pieces even though my girlfriend hated it! I spent so much money out on fixing it though that in the end I just had to get rid.

Fiesta Zetec S TDCI MK7 - Replacement to the Saxo, and to get something more reliable I went newer. It certainly did me well for the time I owned it, and at the time I was doing a lot of miles so needed the diesel.

Seat Mii - Current Car - Absolutely cannot fault this car.. apart from the lack of oomph. My miles decreased, and having a diesel was no longer a priority, so I traded it in for one of these. I really wanted an Up!, but I found this SE specced Mii for a bit of a steal. I thought originally I was going to keep it until they bought the up! GT/Citigo VRS/Mii FR out, but it doesnt look like that is happening any time soon!

So this leaves me where I am now....

I need to start saving some money, so I thought I would sell the car, for around 6 grand and get something for around 4 grand. I want something with more grunt, that is economical. That lead me to the Suzuki Swift sport, then to the Twingo 133, but I want something that isnt likely to go wrong and my experience with French cars is not the greatest. Which leaves me with the Fabia VRS. Im 90% convinced it is the car to go for, as it seems reliable enough.

So in your guys experience, is a 2006 or round abouts model, that has done roughly 70-80000 miles likely to give me any major problems?

The aim is to try save some money up, and I dont want to get a cheaper car and then have to start paying out for repairs!

Bit of a long one Im afraid!  Hope to stick around these forums for a while, because I have to admit it is one of the better ones I have been to!

Cheers guys..

Bedford.

Hi and welcome :)

It's an old car now so there could be issues lurking that you may not spot during an inspection, so hard to say in all honesty.

That said, I bough my '05 vRS four years ago at 70k and not had once single problem that has not been made by myself :giggle:

It's a bit of pot luck, but you can mitigate this by checking service history including making sure the relevant things have been done on time, eg cam belt & waterpump etc.

Welcome.

Cheers Guys!

I know Jars, and really the fact that they are getting on a bit now is the only 10% that is niggling in my ear.

I forgot to mention in my original post, that all my cars are purchased through a friendly salesman at my local Ford dealership. To cut a long story short, I can request a car, and he will find what he reckons is a good one, and he will service it and give me a 6 month warranty on it.

He found my last two cars, and my girlfriends last two cars, and they have been great. So Im hoping if there is anything wrong, it might be caught in the first 6 months!

Actually, now you've said that I did have two problems when I first bought her; my DMF went and the lower engine mount went, both fixed under warranty by the dealer. So the way you are purchasing adds extra security for you. Go for it!

Some nice optional extras to look for are heated seats and Xenons IMO.

More room in the Octavia, so perhaps the VRS model?

Cheers mate.

I am hoping that 6 months gives enough time for whatever is going to go wrong to go wrong! I just think that is a safer bet than going for the twingo 133, which was the other car at the top of my list. For the same price I could get a newer one with less miles, but looking on the 133 forums, they just don't seem as reliable.

Yeah, definitely would have the Xenons, but they seem pretty rare. I seen a lot of comments about the pale seats, but the SE Mii comes with cream seats as well so I am well practiced at keeping them clean!  :D
