After removing all the lock and catch mechanism I was left with this underneath

So nothing a bit of cutting couldn't sort :)

Chopped just over 1kg off bonnet by doing that and elongating were I'd gone through under the double skin,

Debating now to take headlining out or not hmm,

Also getting it mapped at weekend, and drag racing starts on Monday for me :)

Not sure I'd remove headlining as well, not sure what the finish would be like, i just imagine it'll be like getting into a cold, dark car every day!

I agree, might save you 1 2 kilos? I'd keep it in there

Dunno I think it would be quite a saving 5kg+ got 4 grab handles, the two sunvisors, light, wiring plus the headlining itself is surprisingly heavy, and there's a big lump of insulation above driver and passenger head, see how I feel might leave it till later in year to give me something to do

Haha, indeed I'll decide later in year, I want to get dash out again later on, remove the heater box and get a Motorsport heater in, and get rid of the last bits of insulation, want it near 1tonne in the end

Take it out. It's useless and removal is fun. Also probably advisable to keep sun-visors in, you know, from a safety standpoint.

What heater you thinking of? I cant wire mine in as its totally different. Just quickly made up a loom so fans are on a switch but its litrally full force fans and no heat ect. Just to clear window

I'd be fitting a sunstrip :)

Under 1.2kg should be a good 20kg saving there I would think

That would just be hot all the time surely?

Yeah though I was thinking of three inline taps so can bypass it in summer

How easy are heaters to fit? I know the Citigo one is 20 odd kilos

It will need brackets fabricating, pipe routes running etc

Surely the headlining cant way much more than a Unicorn Fart

It's all the associated bits though that would add up

Loving this build! Would a heated windscreen be out of the question?

Removing it makes the car more stripped out and sporty. Because race car.

I took most things out of the Golf, sun visors are not necessary, replace with an external sunstrip, heater is something I left in, for what it weighed it gave great benefits when on wet track days!  I went to a few trackways when the A/C was still installed, lovely and cool when all around are sweating like a pork pie seller at a bah mitzvah!

The other way of looking at is this, for every gram you remove from the car to go to the track you will go quicker, if you drink a litre of fluid you add 1 kilo, eat your lunch you add weight, fill it with fuel you add weight so the question is are the gains that great for the effort involved?

They are available too :) it is an option

I looked at them when the weather was cold, I hate scraping and would rather sit there with the heated seat on and a heated windscreen than get out.

If I get a broken windscreen (has happened before (baseball bat carrying chav)) I'll be buying one. Very reasonable on price too at £250, and I'm sure you could just use the rear heated screen button via a relay.

And another way of looking at it is if it benefits you then leave it in, if not then take it out. My Octy still has electric windows and climate control. Because I want to stay cool, and I can't be bothered with removing the window mechs at the minute, I'll see if they give any benefit on track or on the way there and if not I'll remove at least the rears. Drivers one is staying for Mc-Donalds though   Head-lining is not functional or that good to look at so it has gone.

Mines still has radio and two front speakers :)

Well they are essential, a car with no radio on a long trip to a track will drive you insane.
