Convenience pack left off: Errors with Retro fit

Featured Replies

I love Skodas - or should I say used to love, my new car has been nothing but frustration.

The Citigo I ordered was delayed, then on the day I was meant to pick it up I get a call saying the garage had forgotten to order the convenience pack but it could be retrofitted. This delayed picking up the car, and put my weekend plans on hold.  I checked that they could do this so that it would all go through the navigation system and have the cruise control etc.

A retrofit was made by Vagtec and I checked it over and it all seemed to be fine. Two weeks later after parking up on a local errand all sorts of error messages came up. I called the dealer, who told me to call Skoda Assistance (basically the AA). Hung around, the AA guy ran it through the computer - it came up with a cruise control error and one other unknown. He said he couldn't clear it, so I drove it round to the garage. They were very off hand, and just said leave it we'll take a look. I said, but I need transport (I care for my disabled father so cannot be without a car). They were offhand said Skoda Assistance should have provided it. I said I'd bring it in the next day as it was driveable. As I drive it off their forecourt the error codes clear, I point this out to them, and they said "well there's no need to bring it in then".

A few days ago, the parking sensors gave out. I could not see where the problem was initially. I emailed the garage and they replied asking for my number (although surely they should have had this) so that the Vagtec guy could contact me. I was hoping it was just because of the rain or the car wash or something.  A couple of days passed - no contact. So I start chasing it up with the garage. Today (Thursday) I got hold of the Vagtec guy who is coming out on Monday.
However, as I was leaving work today, I saw what was wrong with the car - now obvious from the pictures. I don't think it is even safe to drive. I rang the garage, but they did their usual answer of someone else will get back to me.

As it is, I don't know if it is safe, and I'm without transport. I had to travel on the motorway for work on Saturday, and seeing as they are not coming out till Monday, I've had to turn that down.

Sent another email to the garage about all this. So instead of working on Saturday, I will be popping into the solicitors and seeing about compensation and rejecting the car.

So sad, because I like Skodas, but don't think I can trust another dealership again! I'm minded just to take all my belongings out and reject the car as soon as I finish work tomorrow.

Judging from the photos it's clear what has happened and it should be fixable, seems like the wiring harness has fallen loose (hasn't been secured properly) and rubbed against the tyre wall, they should be able to just replace the wire harness? Have you contacted Skoda Customer Service's?

After all you've been through I'd be bug***ed if all they did was fit a new bit of plastic tubing & fixed it in place.

Well, the wire is completely worn through, so it is not just the harness, but the whole wire needs replacing. There doesn't seem to be any harness there.
But it does make you wonder what else is wrong, and if the garage had bothered to take a look (which is what I asked for - a quick once over in case they spotted anything) I would not have to waste my time chasing this up, and turning work down because I can't have that dangling on the motorway. They have such a relaxed couldn't care less attitude when you have paid good money for the car and need your transport.  Contacting customer service a good idea - the garage is far too complacent.

Doesn't seem too serious to me. I'd just tape it out the way and carry on till Skoda can fix it. Looks like wiring for the parking sensors.

As above. Also going on personal experience rejecting the car isn't that easy.

Well...I had taped it out of the way...obviously. But the car is not as ordered ...this is all down to a retrofit because their order to the Skoda factory was wrong. Partly, because they still use handwritten invoices for the order. It transpires that this is not an uncommon problem for the garage!

If I wanted to be taping things up I'd have bought a second hand old banger not order a factory built car.

I'm also annoyed because this is something that could have been resolved two weeks ago without inconveniencing my plans.

A wiring harness is a bundle of wires with connectors & joins that has been designed for a specific purpose.  You have taken a photo of a wiring harness.

yeah it's not good that it didn't come as ordered, although at least they have done a full retro fit rather than a non OEM one. When I ordered my car I made sure they send me a PDF of the order so I could see exactly what was ordered

Sorry, I thought you were referring to something keeping this in place as there are no clips visible.

No, but I can understand the confusion as harnessing a horse would be to provide more control.  English is an odd language

Why bother with that garage ?

Contact Skoda directly and go somewhere else.
