I’ve had two Race Chip XLR’s and I’ve been happy with both; made my 280 significantly more responsive and fun.

Did you have to inform your insurance company and if so , did premium /excess etc increase ?    Just asking as I'm interested in fitting one .

Yes and they in turn checked with the underwriters....as it did not alter the bhp/performance of the engine then it was fine.  My previous insurer was the same for the pedal box but they did charge me £50 for having a tuning box fitted.

Ok so I finally got the Racechip XLR - thanks to SteHaworth for your guide on how you fitted your pedal box as it made the process a lot easier!  It does completely change how the car feels and drives  and makes the throttle response feel much more linear. Went out tonight and really enjoyed the R+ mode :). I got my pedal box for £163.20 (inc postage) as Racechip are doing a 13.65% cashback offer at the moment.  I emailed DTUK to see if if they could match the price but I didn't get a response.  Need to save some pennies for the JB4 tuning box next!

Hi guys, has anyone tried the tuning box from tdi tuning or any kind of tuning box?

Cheers

Not personally.  Though if I was going to fit one then I'd definitely disregard everything else apart from this:

https://www.jb4shop.co.uk/collections/jb4-systems/products/jb4-for-vag-1-8-and-2-0-tsi

Fitted to lots of BMW's and Golf R's and very highly regarded (search their owners forums).  @newbie69 should be able to offer more insight.  There's another forum member in Oz with one fitted, can't remember which though....

I wouldn't touch DTUK with a bargepole and a friend had issues with a TDI Tuning box (on a TDI A6)  which needed a follow up visit.

Agreed. There's a YouTube video of a guy with a Golf R who had a DTUK tuning box and it ran rough-as-guts (I'll try and find it). He swapped to a JB4 and a complete transformation - very smooth. It put me off DTUK when I was researching. I subsequently went for a JB1, and it's been excellent.

In my opinion, there are only two 'good' options for tuning boxes - RaceChip and Burger Tuning. JB4 is hugely favoured by the VAG community.

Does Burger do anything for the 2L TDI 150?

Don't think they have any options for tuning VAG diesels unfortunately. I'd recommend looking at the options offered by ABT Sportsline.

ABT have a chip?

Not sure if I'm honest, but as they have a good business relationship with VAG, I'm sure that that engine has a chip available. If not, REVO will.

Quick question - what insurance companies did any one use to get a JB4 box added to their policy?  Renewing my insurance over the next fortnight  so it would be helpful to know!

I was wondering the same thing .... perhaps it's a 'keeping it secret from the Insurance' fitment , or no one has fitted one yet !!   Mind you I'm still in a debate over a Pedal Box :)

Picked up a 280 L&k 4x4 estate today. Cappuccino with beige leather (lot of beige I know...) Lovely drive home, couldn't be happier with it so far.

Only thing that concerns me slightly is whether I paid too much for it. Hadn't read this thread before but on reading the first few pages some people were saying things like it won't be worth a fart in a few years. Well this is a 16 plate with quite a few extras -

Crew protection assist (including rear side airbags)

Rear view camera

Driver assistance pack (Lane assist/Blind spot detection/Smart light assist)

Travel assist (traffic sign speed limit recognition)

Ventilated seats

Passenger seat adjustment from rear seat

Heated windscreen

Partition net screen

Rear sunblinds

Panoramic sunroof

Rear seat backrest release

On Autotrader it had the "great price" tag, but that probably doesn't means much.

Before potentially embarrassing myself by saying how much I paid for it, what do you think would be a fair price? One small chip at bottom of windscreen that isn't in line of sight, otherwise great condition.

It really doesn't matter. You've chosen a brilliant car, so enjoy it. Get some pictures up.

Congratulations .

This. When mine is sold in 2385 by one of my relatives 456 times removed it will probably be worth about 5p. Mmmm… Well thinking about it in 2385 it may be worth considerably more than I paid for it ! I wonder if I can release equity now on the cars value then …. 🤗

Don’t punish yourself by finding out - whatever you paid it’s done.

Its a great car so go ahead and enjoy it 😉

Its like getting married.... Punishing yourself is a ‘Superb’ analogy... If those of us who are married had the first idea about the cost no way would we have done it. Unfortunately I’m punished when I wake up every morning .....

@Tom34 since you asked, but did not give a mileage figure, I'll guess 40k miles and you paid around 20k for it which is a great price.

Anyhow, it's a great car with all the toys so just enjoy it.

I got my 66plate sportline 280 with 15k miles at 20k which is a fair price I think half a year ago.  Doesn't have any optional extras though. No Canton, no lane keep, no high beam assist, no heated seats, basically stock except for the colour and mudguards.

Thanks! I will do tomorrow.

First car that's not a manual as well, the dsg was effortless and no clutch in traffic a joy. Don't think I'll be venturing back into manuals again.

True, it's just curiosity really. Would've made more sense to ask this before I'd purchased 😂 but it all happened quite quickly.

Sorry should've said, 20k miles and it's a petrol. Is Canton an extra? It has that too.

Edit, just noticed you said sportline so presumably Canton is standard on L&k?

If 20k miles I'd guess 21k for it. Good price that I'll pay. Anything less and I'll be all over it if in the market lol.

Yes given the amount of chatter on the forum about them its odd! 🤐

@Nick_H that's a terrible analogy. I know exactly how much my Superb is going to cost me next week and it looks just as good at 6am as it did at 10pm the previous evening.

Oh... wait. Ah - yes. You meant... B*gger.

Nothing to see here - move along people, quickly now, move along. Keep going. Nothing to see. Keep moving.

(I am in so much trouble if she ever sees this post:D).

Don’t debate. Just get a pedal box.

Well, well worth it!

It is a vast improvement on driving feel and enjoyment every time you’re driving it. Also fun to play with.
