Street racing is not clever and that accident is a very sad reflection on what the youth today get up to presumably because they are bored and have no alternative to let off steam in a safer enviroment.

They were not street racing. One was clearly speeding. The other was in a world of his own having done a doughnut, how impressive..... Neither were in full control of their cars.

Ok went for a bit of a longer pootle in the 272 today :) Um um she picks up nicely.

Big thanks to Hayselden Skoda of Doncaster and Brian. So refreshing to not be pressured. That said the 'lower' price is only good for 24hrs :D got to love a technical glitch!

So now the final mile... 3 choices burning my mind to ash:

  1. estate or hatch - really not fussed, 35litres in it, no kids, no dog ( yet)
  2. dcc or not (if sportline)
  3. sportline plus or L&K/SEL

---

I'm still confused over dcc sportline or std sporting, or sel/l&k & dcc.

I like the sportline, it feels updated, despite the dials. Sufficiently different. I suspect any of the 'big' touch versions will. Eyes forward won't notice it after 10mins ;)

This is my shopping list, all low mileage <5k etc. I am sort of tempted to go for new, but 31/2k, that said I'll know how it's been driven since day 1... some of these may of had a tough start to life.

  1. '19 SKODA SUPERB 2.0 TSI 272PS 4X4 SPORTLINE PLUS DSG ESTATE Velvet Red, canton, rear camera £29450
  2. '19 SKODA SUPERB 2.0 TSI 272PS 4X4 SPORTLINE PLUS DSG HATCH White, sunroof, virtual cockpit £28250
  3. '19 SKODA SUPERB 2.0 TSI 272PS 4X4 SPORTLINE PLUS DSG HATCH Velvet Red, sunroof, dcc, canton, rear camera £29495
  4. '19 SKODA SUPERB 2.0 TSI 272PS 4X4 SPORTLINE PLUS DSG HATCH Brilliant Silver, canton, rear wiper, heated screen, virtual cockpit £29495

The outsiders:

  1. '18 SKODA SUPERB HATCHBACK 2.0 TSI 272 SE L EXECUTIVE 4X4 5DR DSG BlackMAgic, canton, dcc, heated screen&nozzles, virtual cockpit, paddles, led pack, leather, -19"s *bogey #1* £26895

  2. '19 SKODA SUPERB 2.0 TSI 272PS 4X4 LAURIN&KLEMENT DSG HATCH business grey, perforated leather, spare wheel, 19 trinity, rear wiper £27890 *ex-skoda uk manager*

  3. '18 6spd SKODA SUPERB 2.0 TSI (280PS) 4X4 SPORTLINE DSG 5DR HATCH Bus.Grey Rear wiper, front sensor, rear camera, heated front seats, +18" £21995 or less... *bogey 2*

  4.  '19 SKODA SUPERB  2.0 TDI 190PS 4X4 SPORTLINE PLUS DSG ESTATE Velvet Red, canton, rear camera, virtual pedal, heated screen, heated seats F&R, spare wheel,  £26000 *demon*

  • bogey 1 is sneaky more q. But with dcc might be comparable to a sportline in sport?
  • bogey2 is bargin basement, reduce deprecation exposure. Marginal fuel increase. 8k more in my bank account and similar smiles. There are a few 2016 ones at <19k so this feels like a good price.
  • demon is just the last fragments of sensible choice for my 15k ish a year, could spend fuel savings on holidays, food, clothes :D

I finally got to see a dragon green... love it! Lovely colour. Too bloody obvious though.

I'm leaning towards #2 and #3 if I can just figure this dcc lark out, that's tomorrows job before the prices go up :D These are the only ones I've asked for a price on too :D

Had a brief play with a golf R in the t5 today, rather more like a cat playing with a mouse... :D cya, I'll catch you up in a bit ;)

I at least know the relative difference now.

I think the mind worm is in, deposit charge card charged...

If it was me I would go for No.3 on the shortlist as it is well equipped compared to the other similar options.:wondering:

@ColinD it sounds as if you are decided on the Sportline+, in which case fair enough. But the things you highlight (I assume that means they are important to you) are all standard on the L&K, and it's two grand cheaper. Got to be able to get a couple of pairs of chinos, a mars bar and a trip to the Isle of Man for that, no?

The ventilated seats would make this a one horse race for me.

highlights, bold were non retrofit parts, or a royal pain to do, italics were I could, if I can be bothered. QED sunroof I'm not fussed either way about...

my last superb was ex management, a 'k' car. I understand the skoda managers essentially get the cars for free they just have to keep them mint. Of course beauty is only skin deep who knows what else went on... they normally represent pretty good value. I seem to recall the mkII i had being lower than the rest  of the forecourt.

I've come up with a cunning plan to try dcc... off to VW :D

I can’t say anything about the Sportline suspension, but I wouldn’t spec the normal suspension without DCC. If it’s anything to go by, “Sport” mode, suspension-wise, is just about perfect for me for day to day driving. However, I regularly put it in Normal or Comfort when the roads get a little more bumpy.

If Sport mode on the normal suspension is along Normal on the Sportline, you won’t be disappointed, but having DCC would be able to provide either that extra bit of firmness or softness as required, which I think would be very useful.

Long story short: Having had it for just about two years now, I wouldn’t spec a car without it.

I didn't get the DCC with my Sportline plus and I regret it. The suspension is fine for day today commuting but in my own opinion its still too soft and not up to it around the corners if you want open it up a little on country roads and gets quite unsettled on rough surfaces.  That said my brother is a mechanic and he says the one thing he notices on VAG cars is the suspension can go quite quickly.  I'm planning on refitting eibach springs  and maybe some Bilstein shocks too but I don't like to think about the repair bill if the DCC breaks out of warranty.   I would definitely get a pedal box - got the Racechip XLR and it does improve the way the car accelerates (I know some people have other opinions). Cost me an extra £40 on the insurance on LV.

Early reviews (like Ausfahrt) have made a joke of no visible exhaust at the rear, but...

Has the 280 got visible chrome exhausts at the rear? Seems so.

Unfortunately the recent 280 reviews I've looked at use stock video/photos and not of the 280, as evidenced by the lack of the 4x4 markings.

Videos of the Geneva launch show the 280 with twin chrome exhausts, but other models without.

Not a 4x4 280...

Yep, proper chrome exhausts. And I love it. look really sharp.

Crikey I'll have to wash it first, it's big.  Going to take two evenings, things you miss, don't think about when selling a supermini. Defintly lucky to be back in a superb, an expensive choice but heck. So you're still up for a swap? Once the credit card fuel card catchs up with me?

I wish!

Seriously though, enjoy. I've just got home from sampling some fine Welsh back roads on my way to the M4. Big stupid grin still plastered all over my face. Brilliant, brilliant car.

Brexit *almost* happened faster  (sorry, I couldn't help the cheeky reference after your feedback request post)

Nice one @ColinD, really pleased you've finally got your 280.  Brilliant Silver too, an excellent choice IMO and likely to be a rare sight.  Sounds like a nice spec ; you'll love the heated screen and seats, particularly after a long Winters day on the hill when you can just get the car packed and get on the road ASAP.

Pics?

So it's done. Big thanks to all those who patiently guided me towards the path.

Sold the awesome citigo and the amazing v50 T5. Now the new stable is complete, no it really is :)

Ended up going for a ex-demo, 6month, albeit with a few more miles on that others, but you know 4k,6k,8k, 10k it matters not after 7 years ;) There were no new options left with what I finally rounded on as 'wanting' although the base spec was more than enough.

Brilliant Silver, Sportline Plus 272. With Canton, heated steering/screen/rear seats, rear camera & wiper(sigh) and after a lot of agonising, DCC.

I've used ACC and DCC a lot, both new, both to be discovered fully. I got 98 green score in the first week... see diving a citigo was good training, use momentum ;)

Bizarely I find 'eco' mode on the motorway very relaxing :). Around town I'm finding 'eco' or 'comfort' ok and sufficiently lazy to not be too tempted on the traffic light dash.

Now I'm relaxing into it and learning the throttle/dsg ( 1st dsg car ) I'm starting to eat into the green score. Ok so 'sport' mode and stomp is fun :). Once out to the non urban area, individual as sport -1 is enough for me atm :)

Discovering what gear I am in, taxing, what speed am I at... interesting, oh jeezus and cruise on... Of course changing yourself from 2nd to 3rd in a manual you kind of know, in this I've no idea what gear it's in. But at least I can focus on the road, hazards, rapidly passing floral displays... and kerbs! Kerbs dammit, kerbs. I'm going to clip one soon, I should just go and kerb all the wheels now and be done with it.

I've gained the 7th gear and lost the butterfly/direct injection. Had to pass on virtual cockpit, it was that or DCC based on available cars, ignoring those with a sunroof... As a minor negative for me.

Superskoda for the bootlip protector. Already dinged it, and boot lights; so I can see metal bits hanging of rucsacs in the dark that will ding the boot lip, good as it needs to be.

And totally passed the 'invisble' test when pulled up in a car park and chatting to a S3 owner, and sharing a moment on fuel economy.

Time will tell how this goes. For now, it goes ok 🧘‍♂️

Congrats! It must be an awesome transition coming to such a car loaded with all the latest gadgets. And you'll always remember your first DSG  :D

I have said that I am big fan of the Virtual cockpit but if the choice was ultimately between it and the DCC, especially for a car that is not planned to have its suspension upgraded, then DCC is the driver's choice. Sport mode on a DCC Sportline is the only mode the suspension feels as if it's well matching the rest of the car's capabilities. Imo, they should have gone one level up with all the DCC settings, ie. set Comfort as is the current Normal, Normal as is the current Sport, and I wouldn't mind a tad extra firmness on Sport. Non-DCC Sportline owners often complain about the suspension not being up to the job when given the beans which is not something I can say about mine when set to Sport.

We'll be waiting for those pics!

Congrats, look forward to seeing your photos.

Makes me even more excited to get mine.  No delivery date yet, but 272 Sportline Plus in Meteor Grey, virtual cockpit, rear camera, heated windscreen/washers, Canton, DCC, towbar, heated rear seats (requested by the kids...!).  Will be my first petrol car, most powerful I've owned, and first automatic I've owned.  Third Skoda though (2 Octavia VRSs - selling the second shortly to fund Superb).

I can't speak for everyone, but we have to essentially return these cars in showroom condition, so I look after them and drive them as though I'd parted with my own hard-earned.

I've had 4 L&K 280/272s so far. Whoever buys them afterwards gets a pretty good deal to be honest - I have a very easy, steady motorway commute, and they end up being sold with around 7,000 very easy miles under their belt.

Admittedly though, I've only ever handed back 3 of those 4. One ended up being a Cat B total loss after being spectacularly shunted by a 40-tonner on the M1 😂

What has been your favourite Skoda so far? 280 Superb or 245 Octy or L& K perhaps.

Truth be told, I haven't had a great many Skodas yet. I work for a Volkswagen Group function rather than any one of the brands, so I can choose cars from any of the VW Group brands based in the MK offices.

Having said that though, the Superb L&K 272 estate is one of my clear favourites, hence the fact I keep ordering them. My previous car was an A6 Avant 50TDI, and of the two I actually prefer the Superb for my needs.

I've not had a vRS 245 yet, but I've got one on order for my wife later in the year. My wife's had a decent selection of Skodas so far, including a Yeti Elegance, two Octy SE Ls, and an Octy vRS TDI. She's currently got a Superb SE L 150TSI estate.

Yes - I messed up the orders and we've currently got a pair of Superb estates between us. At least they're not the same colour.
