Thanks Chas51 -  i was beginning to think my question must have been deemed too daft to be worthy of a response :)

I note your point on adding warranty at the point of order. I mentioned it to the dealer and they said it could be done later but I have my reservations so will chase up on this. As you say it seems a reasonable price for what it offers and if it gives me peace of mind for 5 years (well years 4-5)  then that is worth it even if not actually required.

Certainly looking forward to the moment I become a member of this elusive club.

Cheers,

Mike

Sorry, it's not usually like that but occasionally we have to deal with all that disguised AWD envy/inferiority crap :crying:,  sad but apparently true.

On your question, Definitely get the extra warranty ordered with the car since you plan on keeping it. AFAIK it can't be added after a certain very early production stage, it's part of the spec of the car. One unlucky case and it will have paid for its money, even the simplest job that needs a couple of hours would cost you the same money just in labour cost so a no brainer really unless you are someone who switches cars too often.

No good for you mate any car with 335.9 bhp and over would shred them.... 335.7 would probably be ok though ?

Easy for me to buy them with the saving I make on the fuel I don't use but as Newbie69 seems picky about you buys the wheels maybe he's not interested in UK pounds just Euro's.

And that's related how exactly to my previous reply to the other member or (worse) this thread? You really like keeping admins busy don't you?

Funnily enough, we were also told it could be added later, nearer the time.  We didn't add it on at sale as a result.  I'll be royally p1ssed off if it turns out not to be the case.

You wouldn't understand what a bully is until they smack you in the face. Good luck selling the Supernova's lots of customers out there just try not to wind them up or you might have them for quite some time.

Dealers in two different EU countries have confirmed to me personally that a factory warranty cannot be added retro-actively or even before delivery, it has to be part of the car's spec and can't be added after the car gets a build date or similar, but in any case rather early in the ordering process.

Due to that I assume that when your UK dealers say it can be added at a later stage they mean something different, ie. a warranty provided by the dealers themselves at their own cost. In principle it should be the same thing but I can see a few possible issues. For example, when the warranty is at a manufacturer's level, the dealer can be neutral or even supporting during a claim as it won't be coming of their pockets anyway. Not sure they'd be as helpful if the entire repair is on them, you see the point.

Sure, but could you please forward your opinion of me in a PM next time and for once spare this thread? It will still be as valuable as a bag of dog's cr@p but at least it won't prevent other members from following this thread and important questions raised. Are we done?

Ahh maybe you have identified my issue. My car was already built. The production line had closed when I tried to place my order so I was offered some of the pre-built models that were available. Meant I had to get something not exactly to my spec - I was ordering the L&K 272 Business Grey, virtual cockpit, heated washers (hit the price ceiling here of just below £40K) and ended up with L&K Petrol Blue, virtual cockpit, variable boot floor. Wasn't sure on the colour but visited a few showrooms and decided it was OK - at least when clean. Not so nice when dirty which was one reason for the Business Grey :)

So maybe the extended warranty is not an option for me which is a shame

I'm absolutely sure you're right as well Newbie.  Still, not my car, so I (for once) took a step backwards in the process.  Naturally I'll still get the blame if anything happens down the line!

Far too used to my cosy BMW Insured Warranty - all the benefits of a manufacturer warranty, even though it's run by, I think, Mondial.

So does this imply that they build the car better if you spec an extended warranty?

Now you've gone a step too far.  The Mk1 MX5 is a bloody awesome track day car and even at nearly 30 years old is still one of the best examples of how a car should drive/feel; no need for remaps, big BHP etc etc; just a bloody good chassis and miles of miles of blue sky.

Quote me what I said about the MX5 that makes you think it is a bad car. History tells us it is the best selling sports car ever. However it is slow unless you take it to BBR for them to strap one of their turbo kits to the stock engine. I was merely suggesting that Nick H was more likely to have a Mazda in his garage than the Jaguar he so blatantly lied about which you guys think is funny. Telling porkies and mis-quoting is never a good idea just remember that when the Police pull you over. Honesty is always the best policy.

That was exactly my question to the dealer, let's hope not. Although in Sweden, Skoda cars come with 3 year warranty as standard so they would need to be differentiated too if they were to get "extra attention", which I don't think is the case with any car, extra warranty spec or not.

Kind of ….

There's an Audi RS6 parked on my drive. Do I win?

To see whether the "list price" exceeds 40K:

https://www.am-online.com/data/ved-rules-from-april-2017

List price

This is the price provided by the manufacturer / dealer, and reflects the vehicle list price on the day before it is first registered and taxed.

o This does not include first registration fee

o This does not include any service or warranty packages sold with the vehicle

o This does not include any non-standard dealer fitted options

o This does include any factory fit options

o This does include delivery and PDI charges

o This does include any discounted options, at their full list price

o Vehicles will be listed at their full Price, discounts (including any grants provided to electric vehicles) are not taken in to account

So it's perfectly possible to have the total price (before discounts) go over 40k without getting hit by extra tax, if the items in bold are subtracted and the result is under 40k.

Hmhh - the more I think about this the more it is bugging me. Even wondering if  I should cancel my order and wait for the factory orders to re-open although that means an extended wait to join the club!!! It would almost become a xmas present to myself.

Thanks Ian - this is interesting as I wasn't aware of the 1st reg fee being exempt so thats £585 taken away. I could have included the variable boot floor in my original spec :)

OK an update on my own post ...

just spoken with the dealer and they are saying it is definitely possible to add the extended factory warranty as I am still in the ordering process. They have done this before so it seems I can relax ... possibly.

It's not my car. My neighbour is using our drive whilst we're away 🤣

I’d get that in writing if I were you as I believe as others have said that the 5 year manufacturers extended warranty must be part of the original order or very shortly after.

Good luck and hope all goes well for you.
