Which colour for my new VRS TDI Estate-can't decide!

Featured Replies

Hi guys I posted yesterday about the new vehicle I've ordered and I'm really struggling between Race Blue or Pearlescent Black. I've had them both before but love them both for different reasons!

I've got to make a decision in next couple of days and it's wrecking me as I'm likely to be keeping this car for much longer this time.

I love the race blue because it suits the car with my chosen black pack plus and it looks sporty and in your face. But in my opinion it's now a common colour and other brands with much lower spec have this colour too. Also as nice as the blue is it strikes me as a younger drivers car (although I'm only 35!!!!). But I love how the blue has real road presence and says 'shift' when someone is dawdling on the motorway. Also the blue doesn't show the dirt as badly either.

Now the black to me has a classier look, but stealthier but looks 'mean' with the White DRLs against the black paintwork. The black to me seems timeless and when clean looks amazing. The black seems to me a bit more grown up in my opinion whilst still being sporty. The black from experience shows the dust and dirt up and doesn't show the lines and contours of the VRS bumpers as well as the race blue. Does the black look a smaller car than the blue and hence not have as much road presence??

You see my dilemma and colour to me is very personal. I know this is deep but I can't decide!!! Help!!!

I wanted Black. In the end I convinced myself on the Metal Grey to avoid the daily-cleaning issues.

Still think I made the right choice. Though it is becoming a very common colour now.

What ever you like. It's your money, your motor and you will be driving it

i have ordered the black but i just saw a metal grey  Octavia and it made me tear up.......well to late to be sorry now.

Black is Nice too.....

Metal grey looks brilliant - really classy - but I'd go for the GREEN! option if I was buying a VRS.

+3 as you say race  blue is not just a vRS colour now as lesser models have it, I had one of the very first MK2s in blue, so green just to confuse you, but black being the conservative option

I went Moon White. 'Cause I am mad.

Still when it's clean it will look nice. And not many Moon White about so it seems.

I had a good wander round my dealers to decide on the colour for my Octy Hatch and metal grey was stunning. It looks classy yet sporty and isn't so popular, everyone has race blue on the vRS these days.

This is the exact dilemma I'm facing! I currently have a rising blue scirocco and thought I'd go for black by way of a change but race blue shows the contours off so much more. I'm only 34 so I reckon I can get away with it ;)

Have to admit had a couple of black machines over the years and have one now only because the I couldn't find the spec I wanted in another colour. It looks good on a lot of cars when clean and can look menacing in a "mad max" kind of way when completely let go!

But I would not have another because I find they don't look that good in the "little bit dirty" state which my cars spend most of their life in I think they look grubby quicker than other cars. They also tend to show age more, the fine scratches they pick up over time if you don't do the 10-stage clay and five bucket method

Have a 10 year old silver machine that has had nothing but abuse, still looks presentable when I haven't touched it in months and one bucket power wash brings it up fine.

Went for metal grey myself, toss up with silver

Shame they don't do them in fantasy green - now that would make a statement!

I'm 52,and going for the race blue , it's popular for one reason it looks fantastic , I've had black and grey cars over the last 7 years and liked them both , just thought the blue would make a change .

HEY! Less of this "lesser models! " :-) my SE-L in Race Blue is no lesser model I will thank you to note! :-)

Yellow

The End

I've just ordered a primer grey one, best colour by a mile!!!!!

Race blue looks awesome and is not as common as you may think. Black looks great when clean but shows up scratches and dirt far too easily, grey is far too common on the roads today (try counting how many grey cars you see on an average journey). White or silver looks good and is easy to keep clean.......

Conclusion?.....race blue, or white!!

Race Blue, as already said it shows the lines of the front end well plus it looks cleaner for longer than the Black.

Nice colour moon white. I've currently got a candy white VRS mk3 estate and when it's clean it looks amazing but sadly, it's usually dirty ( I do 18k miles per year) and looks ordinary most of the time-it's one of the reasons why I'm changing it. That said, most cars look ordinary when dirty.

Picked up black magic at 1pm yesterday, by 130pm it was pretty dirty as rained after a period of dry.  Like black cars though, would have picked white but last car was white.  White looks v good with black pack n tints.

Yep, I currently have it in candy white with black pack and tints and it does look good - when it's clean! If you think black gets dirty, you want to try owning a white one! It's a shame but I had to get it out of my system.

Sorry just realised, you did own a white one!

I might be alone in this but i quite like a car being dirty on the outside :) - inside needs to be spotless though!!

Race Blue for me.

I love the green but don't think I could live with it every day.

Meteor grey is very nice but my last 8 cars were all silver or grey company cars (and a blue/grey private car.)

You cant go wrong either way with blue or black but personally the black would drive me crazy looking dirty and potentially picking up swirl marks after excessive cleaning.

I recently took delivery of a race blue vrs with black pac and panoramic roof. Everyone comments how great the colour is.

I chose the blue because there are so many white, silver , grey ones on the road here, black show up every bit of dirt but looks fantastic when spotless, in Australia we don't get the option of green or yellow.

As for blue being a younger persons colour I don't think so (I'm 45)

Mind you when I test drove the cars the White with black pack looked classy (but I was under strict orders "no more white cars").

Metal grey looks brilliant - really classy - but I'd go for the GREEN! option if I was buying a VRS.

+2 for Rally Green, even if I've just bought one in Sprint Yellow
