  • I really don't like those alloys.

  • The Cadiz wheels on the R are my first diamond cut alloys. I wasn't that keen on them at first, but boy are they easy to keep clean and they look good for much longer when dirty. They still look fairl

  • Expect my work would not be too amused if I stuck a body kit and Peco Big Bore exhaust on my company Zafira Tourer 1.6 diesel...I would be though haha In all seriousness though...I don't think the Cl

They are interesting and worth a look.

Hopefully the VW Media Launch Packs and then the Motoring Media /Journalists / bloggers & roadtester can make more obvious and easy to find the Weight of them as they sit at the road side fully fueled and ready to go.

(the actual weights of a 3 door manual and DSG GTI Clubsport & a 3 door manual & DSG Seat Leon Cupra 290)

*The Elephant in the Volkswagen Board Room!*

The real world weight as they leave the dealership and the handling is going to be the big factor as well as the engines real power out put not just the Overboost figure.

(which probably can not be the figure used in the US of A market.)

Looks funky, not 100% sure on the overboost!

Overboost just as on the Fiesta ST and Mini Cooper S and many others these days,

its is either a bit of Kidology on Headline HP figures,

or just a way to get Co2 Emissions g/km,  Euro 6 MPG figures. (using Stop / Start) as well.

It is the future right here right now,  but they still make cars too heavy.

You're probably right it's away to get around CO2 or alike. Rather than the car can only handle it for 10 seconds, any longer and "she canny take it captain" *best Scotty impression*

Not sure with current safety requirements vs costs vs sound etc that cars will get that much lighter.

I was thinking about Volkswagen celebrating the Golf & overboost mode for when you need to show that driver up your jacksy that your car can move and then going Retro but with with Economy when being a Daily Driver.

So the VW Group should have just turned out reasonably priced Diesel Automatics with Nitrous for that overboost that will be required very seldom.

Them seats are either going to be super comfy or uncomfortable as hell!

I wonder how long before the overboost control gets hacked?..........VCDS or VCPro ..........too many people will start to modify it, 10secs.......nah bit more time & bit more power................

Wheels are meh............like the bumpers, skirts & spoilers, also note the single U DRLs as per the GTI & not the Double U from the R...............

iirc Ford have overboost on the Mondeo 2.2 diesels.

I think the overboost function is the new bells & whistles war item as a must have..................

Shoot the marketing people please!!!!!

The thing I hate about my car is they fit stupid light up strips in the top of the front doors..................................but not the rear doors!!! Also the MK7 Golf does not get the red door lights just chepo reflectors...AARRGGHHH!!!!

My flipping 14yr old Fabia had then in the front doors as standard!!

Thankfully you can re-wire the doors & retro-fit them to both the front & rear doors, & use the LED red lights/clear puddles from the new Passat!

All that Bling and Tat is what added more weight, more costs and more complications when people wanted a Hot Hatch with performance, handling and reliability.

Hopefully VW have not Penny Pinched on Mechanicals and simple things like Engine Components, suspension and braking and electric looms while spending on Chrome look plastic.

If they can keep the Coolant in the Engines and the rain water out of the cabins and the Corrosion is now inhibited the decades of car building and heritage will really mean something.

Then the Golf GTI Clubsport will be a great car.

There should be not a single snagging fault with a single car they sell.

Vorsprung Durch Technik.

Oh look a flying pig....................... :D

This is VAG we are talking about, & VWUK don't spec things for factory fit options in the UK which are factory fit options in other countries.

The Audi S3 gets alu lower front wishbones & subframe, the Golf (even in R) only get pressed steel........................people are retro-fitting these items to their GTI & R if they track them!

In the first video above your post the man from VW clearly says it is a 265 hp engine which with Overboost can produce 290hp.

That is not a 286 hp engine as Auto Express says, but this will no doubt be repeated time after time.

Nothing wrong with 265 hp as was in the Leon Cupra 265, or as the Leon Cupra 280 which is now 290 ps. As in 290ps, not with Overboost.

(Under £24,000 with Discount in a 5 Door)

So the marvellous 'Aero' on the Golf R and a bit more poke and you will have the Golf 420R! (Maybe.)

Seats look like the Recaro option available on RS4s for about a decade (and many other cars for that matter), and very nice they look too.

As for the 'Clubsport' designation, what sacrilege!! It would have been fine to call it an 'Edition 40'.

I don't like that the engine is clearly tuned so that it doesn't tread on the toes of the Golf R, shame.

Looks nice enough as a package though. There will be plenty of Golf fans doing whatever they can to buy one for sure.

Looks like it looses its fogs too like the R.

VW must be taking much more care with EU Testing and Co2.  168 g/km they have it at with the Clubsport,

so higher than the Seat Leon Cupra 290 Hatch which is 156 g/km in the manual & 154 g/km with the DSG

(& Co2 of 159 DSG & a 165 Manual Golf R)

But they are all on the Euro 6 / 2016 Critical list because of 'Irregularities.)

Why have they not just plumt for the same 290bhp engine setup as the Cupra? Surely it would match something else in the VAG group with 2 wheel drive.

I really don't like those alloys.

Me neither.

Or the R's standard alloys.

Not into any of em

Think they look like Golf R 19". I thought you liked them. Quite honestly at about 3% off the overall cost of the car, I think I could negotiate a discount offsetting the cost of a set I would prefer instead. Oh! And sell the disliked alloys to those that like the standard supplied.

Tbh mate, i think its the whole 'black with polished front' thing that i dont like.

Maybe im old fashioned. I like them all one colour.. Haha.
