  • The reason I altered the gap to 0.6mm was I was getting misfire at high revs, especially when pulling hard. I initially suspected my Bluespark box was to blame, but when I removed it, misfire still oc

  • Running the NGK BKR7EIX in mine buddy and they seem to be doing the trick. As on other threads usually change them around the 10K mark Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

  • I'll be putting these into ours shortly, now done 14k since engine change (delighted to say not using a drop of oil) and I'm not taking any chances with leaving plugs in for recommended intervals. Gon

Thanks for the correction.

Any comments - anybody?

Sounds gd although the mileage that they will last in a twincharger seems optimistic

If you try them let us know how they go.

The do the 'Racing Range', 'Heavy Duty' etc so plenty of choices with DENSO.

I will stick with the DENSO Iridium 'Platinum' 'SKJ' that do a perfect job with a Twincharger.

(Not bought any 'PKJ' yet.  Sittingbull has for his sons Ibiza Cupra.)

Got my GTI back from a service today. Word of warning, if you want the DENSO spark plugs then get them before the service or ask your garage if you know them well to get them in before.

My mechanic had to get them directly from DENSO (PKJ20CR)

Post #34 has the Current Spark Plug numbers as Skoda Fit.

****Post #44 shows a common problem when some unfamiliar with these engines change the spark plugs.****

Please excuse me for the amateur question, but I want to get a spark plug gapping tool (always just put them in straight out of the box) but I've noticed there appears to be a few different kinds, varying in price.

Could anyone recommend me on the one they use or the best type? And is it quite easy to do?

I've used most types but prefer the wire gauges that have been squared (not just bent in a loop).  Because they are round, you don't get a false reading like a flat gauge does if it's slightly angled.  To close the gap I tap the electrode on something hard (workbench / rocker cover).  To open the gap I use sidecutters.  It probably sounds wrong to many but that's how I was taught and I probably changed about 10,000-20,000 spark plugs when I was on the tools.

Most spark plugs come pre-gapped these days so if you have a set of feeler gauges in the tool box, you just need to do a sanity check to make sure they are right.

I like these:

That's great, thanks! Just what I was looking for. I know they normally come gapped now days but for the mk2 Fabia vRS I'd seen several times that 0.6mm was the right gap to have them at so I thought I'd give it ago!

The Plugs Main Dealers now fit are

03c0905601B

NGK SIZFR6B8EG  @ 0.7mm   (96209)  Less than £12 each.

http://opieoils.co.uk

I would go with the DENSO plugs though. the SKJ20CR  unless there are now newer ones.

Looks like maybe now PKJ20CR.

Best Check.

Do you know if these are still the latest codes for vRS plugs please George? Thank you :-)

EDIT - Opie list 2 DENSO plugs, Iridium Tough are £9.95 each inc VAT, Extended Platinum are £11.15 inc VAT but they list nothing for NGK.

eBay list the DENSO Platinum for £11.83 with free p+p

eBay list NGK SIZFR6B8EG £42.50 for set of 4 with free p+p

Sorry but no idea if Skoda Dealership workshops

still say it must be the 03c095601B / NGK SIZFRB8EG    Rubbish plugs that they are.. IMO.

Audi Techs seem fine with fitting DENSO plugs to Audi A1 185ps 1.4 TSFI Twinchargers.

I was updating my post above as you posted, thank you George :-)

The Motor Factor had the latest DENSO Plugs in stock today but i stuck with the ones i trust & paid £60.65 for 4 just because i get everything else needed cheap from a trusted supplier.

The Mahle Oil Filters are only £3.65 each and in my opinion preferable to using the VW/Audi ones.

I'm going to ask my dealer if there would be any extra charge for fitting them if I supply plugs, can't see why they should as they have to take the old ones out to look at them. or am I being naive!!

They are quite entitled to charge for changing them and some do, and charge far to much. 0.5 hours (30 minutes is fair.)

But others do it at no extra cost at times of a Customer having a service.

All you can do is ask, but then likely the person that is 5 or 6 days a week on the service desk has no idea,

and needs to go ask someone else that might or might not know.

£110 for a Dealer to supply and fit OEM Plugs is taking the pith when the computer says that is the price of the job.

I'll call them next week if I get the chance and find out then, knowing them they will want extra!

I asked them to change mine at Lookers Skoda Stockport at the beginning of the year whilst it was getting a minor service and they didn't charge me to change them.

Referring to George's comment about the prices dealerships charge.

I urge people to barter, on my last visit to the dealer there was a few things that needed sorting out to the tune of £400.

After a quick phone call they did it all for £210. Doesn't hurt to ask, do your homework and go armed with prices from other sources.

A lot of people (probably most) don't feel comfortable with bartering - I couldn't do it.

One solution if you can not barter or get a shift in the price a Skoda Main Dealer Quotes is sometimes to head to the VW Main Dealership.

Even ones in the same Motor Group might service your Twincharger as they would a Polo GTI Twincharger and offer that at a better

price and change the spark plugs without feeling the need to ask you 'to bend over and assume the position.'

did enyone test the NGK racing plugs yet ?

they will cost a bit more but got pretty good reviews

Would they get the software updates though or is it only Skoda dealers that can get the software updates?

VW Group Main Dealerships, same Software Updates for the Seat, Audi, VW or Skoda.,

Same engines, only the Audi A1 185 PS Twincharger is given as 136kW minimum and the others as 132kW.

Some other dealerships have no issues servicing a Skoda & some just say no straight out.

I have had no problems getting my local VW Dealership doing Servicing on a Skoda, and the service done correctly for less than the Skoda Dealership.

I've just spoken to my dealer to find out how much extra plugs would cost, and was told that pollen filter, oil and filter, air filter and spark plugs are all included in the £269 cost of major service
