I thought the most interesting point in that ICCT article was the one about the impossibility of improving NOx emissions of the EU cars significantly without affecting fuel economy in a negative way.

 

 

 

That sounds about right ie reducing NOX would harm fuel consumption unless one added substantial hardware ie retro SCR.  But the loss of fuel consumption was only 1 or 2 % if I read it right?

 

1 or 2 % is what one can easily improve by switching to more economical tyres and if that improves NOX by 10% or so then that would be worth it but it seems that the supposed fix sometime made no difference at all.

 

The benefits of laminar flow over turbulent flow is clear and more a question as to why VW allowed turbulent flow to exist before the MAF "fix".

 

I am blown away with how good the 1.4 TSI with 7 speed DSG and using coast function in ECO mode where it is showing almost 60 mpg on Long Term average, good enough for me and it will be interesting where the WLTP figures are for the 1.5 TSI actually comes out.  CO2 of around 130 to 140 gm/km compared to the current 115 could be expected.

^^^ What would really be interesting is if the WLTP / RDE was done on the 1.4 TSI / TFSI with or without ACT/COD. and also on the Hybrid Golf / Audi's with the 1.4TSI / TFSI.

 

Not going to happen though is it, or just not the figures of it being done published,

but it must have been carried out and hence engines discontinued / orders stopped early on the Hybrid / 1.4 TSI / TFSI's.

VCA still list the 1.4 TSI DSG.  NOX is quoted as 31 g/km which is not great compared to my Dacia 0.9T at 10 g/km but similar to the ecoboost Fords.  Fuel consumption is even better on the Skoda than it was the Dacia ie Skoda is around 10% better, mainly down to the wondeful auto box and its coast feature.

'Coasting' function is wonderful, like Stop / Start is.  The thing is many never use 'Coasting' function because they keep their toes on the pedal, 

and many switch Stop / Start off or it does not function in many circumstances, like heavy traffic stopping and starting with a load on the battery or low temperatures and smoggy type air conditions.

I heard this morning because of Theresa May MP heading to meet and greet and talk up the UK as being a Leader of the World on Green Transport that 5% of new vehicles 'bought' in the UK are EV's or Hybrids.   No idea how many new 'EV's are being bought in the UK though.  the SMMT will be able to say how many are First Registered.

Just read the BBC Link.

So the SMMT says that Hybrids, Plug in Hybrids and Pure Electric Cars make up 8% of the overall market. 

 So that is not 1 in 12 are EV's, but Hybrids and EV's.

This example of a Peugeot 3008 (2019MY) seems to indicate that the cleanest choice is the diesel.........or am I misreading it ?  -

No idea about Peugeot's actual WLTP results or Skoda, there seems to be lots of confusion and Skoda are not helping much with that.

If they have models Type Approved, orderbooks open, and able to buy then why is it not easy to see the spec of the models and the C02 g/km and economy figures.

Can they still sell the pre WLTP date stock?.

If so, I imagine they want to clear them before publishing the new figures in brochures and online.

Obviously 2019MY stock will have the new figures.
