I fancy the cruise control, but I wonder whether someone could tell me what exactly the Skoda CC package does? I've had a quick flick through the handbook, but it's not mentioned at all.

All I know is that you press a button and it keeps the speed you've set. What else? What happens when you use the controls (brake, clutch)? Can you adjust the target speed? What's displayed on the dash? Etc.....

Any update on suitability for AGU engined cars?

When you brake or accelerate cc is disabled you then have to use the button againto set it (I guess).

Not sure whether you are displayed anything or you get to the speed you want and thenset it and it holds it there...if you know what I mean.

The package is exactly the same as the factory fitted one, using genuine Skod/VAG parts.

I'm sure one of the peeps who have cc fitted already can tell you all the functionality.

Please spill the beans, someone......... In particular, if you're on cruise and then accelerate past something, will your speed then return to the previous value, or do you have to reset it?

No worries.

Most CC works the same way (but hopefully a CC enabled owner will tell us for sure).

You set the speed with a button. The CC holds that speed. You can accelerate using the pedal to overtake and upon releasing the pedal the speed returns to the previous setting. If you brake or depress the clutch this disables the CC. Some CC's have a function that will allow you to return to the previous preset speed, others require you to set it again after using brake or clutch.

Usually you can also accelerate/decelerate via the CC stalk by pressing an up/down button. This usually not only speeds up or slows down, but alters the set speed in the CC.

My car has had the K cruise control treatment. The CC stalk replaces the existing turn indicator/high & low beam stalk on the left of the steering wheel and includes those functions. The stalk has a sliding switch on the front labelled Off, On and Res and there is a press (Set) switch on the end of the stalk. Cruise control is switched on by moving the sliding switch to the middle (On) position. When the car is at the desired speed (30kph or higher) that speed can be stored and set by briefly pressing the Set button on the end of the stalk. Speed can be increased by depressing the accelerator but the car will return to the stored speed when the accelerator is released. Use of brake or clutch will switch the system off temporarily, but the stored speed can be regained by moving the sliding switch to the Res (Resume) position briefly (the switch will then self-centre to the On position). Sliding the switch briefly from the On position towards the Off position briefly and then allowing it to self-centre will also temporarily disable the cruise control.

The stored speed can be reduced by pressing and holding the Set button (this is the opposite of what happened on my Senator) down to 30kph minimum, and can be increased by sliding the front switch to Res and holding it there without pressing the accelerator. I find it more convenient to accelerate or slow down to the new required speed then use the Set button to store that speed.

Provided the car is in the appropriate gear (ie not in 5th at 30kph going up a hill), the cruise control will hold the stored speed with impressive accuracy.

On the L&K if you slide the switch to the left it returns you to your pre braking speed

Biggest advantage I find is on a long run you dont tend to slowly build up your speed, how many times when you are cruising along a Motorway do you look down & see 90-100 on the clock.

Must get it fitted the the 4x4 now its been Jabbad !!

Well, my local dealer is ready to give it a shot, using genuine Skoda parts no less ! I've booked in for about 5 weeks time, with my 20k service, will let you know how it went. The part's about fifty quid and then 3 hours labour.

Apparently there are dealers in Norwich and Ipswich that have done this before, as my dealer asked around for advice.

So, once you've resumed after braking, you have to leave the switch in res? How can you then use it to increase speed?

It does not 'click' to RES. Rather, it's more like a switch which will self-centre after pushed towards RES.

Correct, Huck. And it can also be pushed past On towards Off to temporarily disable CC, and then self-centres to the On position. It is much easier to use than to describe how to use it - if you see what I mean. :rolleyes:

PS I have amended my earlier post to try and describe the use of the Off-On-Res switch more clearly.

Yeah, when I had the BMW (auto), cruise suddenly made a whole load more sense.

At the moment it doesn't look like this can be done for non drive by wire cars.

Its standard on teh Superb comfort and elegance trim with the control on the steering wheel, just missing/optional on the classic. I have seen stalk controlled cruise on a Superb in CZ however.

Denis - Here's one for you - if you set the cruise to say 70mph and then take some bends safely but at a speed where ESP might cut in, will it disable the cruise entirely or just intevene then automatically resume ?

why did this happen to you then rob ?

Not a clue, Rob. But I would suggest that using CC other than to maintain a cruising speed amounts to misuse of it and is asking for trouble. I wouldn't dream of using it on surfaces which were slippery due to heavy rain, snow or ice, nor on a series of bends where in normal driving you would be varying throttle input to help maintain roadholding.

I used CC today for my journey to Yorkshire and back. On the 272 mile round trip on the A1-M18-M62 I used CC for the major part of the journey. I was also using a GPS receiver to check speedo accuracy - and was able to check how accurately CC maintained speed. I was amazed to find that the set speed was maintained to within

CC plus automatic transmission rocks! The journey home yesterday evening was very relaxed (apart from the road works around M42/M6, but they seem to be a permanent fixture).

Now all I need is automatic braking ;)

CC on my "to do" list. Driving on the M3 yesterday highlights what a good thing CC could be. Pre-Jabba I could get 40mpg quite easily.......post Jabba it's achieveable......if you show restraint.;)

I really have to stick to 70-75mph to get this and it's boring.:( 80mph comes out to around 38mpg (according to the MFA).

Anyone who has been Jabba-ed will know what I mean......going from 70 to.......errr......80mph is just so effortless. A few times I was in the left hand lane, came across a slower car and just planted the right foot and zoommed past. Left the apparently faster moving vehicles in the far right lane far behind.;)

CC a must for long journeys me thinks........

:( i would really like CC however damn cabled throttle car (how can i tell if i does have a cable throttle in the vain hope it may be fly-by-wire?)
