New Golf R - Part 2

Featured Replies

That aside, I was sad to say goodbye to both my Golf Rs ,as they were both great cars in their own right and fitness for purpose.

  • Well picked up my new car today... a Leon Cupra Initial verdict.... F**K its quick!! (of course it would be after a Citigo)

  • My R arrived on Friday along with my Dad's GTI!  Didn't even know there was a part two to this thread so have missed 9 pages!

  • I do sometimes think that copying and pasting (without editing) makes it awfully hard for people to instantly see what's trying to be said! Any chance of some pruning the next time please Keith?

Enjoy new car

Enjoy new car

Will do and I am already .

Cheers Kenny.

Took a hire last night and it ended up with me transporting the customers car to his house as he had been drinking and couldn't leave car in town so a phone call to 1 of my fellow taxi drivers and we conveyed the vehicle home for him.....

It was a 66 plate Golf "R" which was in Race mode
It was a short but very pleasurable 20 mile drive to his house with him beside me egging me on to see what its got ......

Must say the best drive I have had in along time. Its a pity even the estate is just too small for a Taxi......... :D

They are fun to drive..............,

At least, when we are using our R, we don't get mistaken for a mini-cab, whereas when in the Superb.............

Golf R mk8

Only believe this when I see it in the Production flesh !!

:"At the top of the petrol line-up will be a more powerful version of the four-wheel-drive Golf R, whose  turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder  motor is said to develop the same 414bhp as the R400 concept first wheeled out at the 2014 Beijing motor show."

Dealership manager told me today, that if the R mk8 were to be launched in 1st qtr 2017,then they would normally know in November 2016.

Currently no knowledge.

So closer than you might think, in this test of R and Focus RS , both manuals but wearing slightly different rubber on a dry track.

So that is what two years of additional R&D plus testing gets you I guess?

Much like with the Golf R after being in production for 2 years after R&D and previous years of earlier models and VW still can not get Component Choice Manufacturing and Quality Control right.

This being the reason 100's of thousands are being recalled in the US for potential fuel leaks.

There are also safety recalls in the UK for the risk of fuel leaks.

Law of averages George, two and half years with R hatch and R Estate. Never missed a beat and no Recall experienced, after approx 25000 miles.

Saw the above video a couple of weeks ago.

What were the Service Campaign Recall Actions that were needed.?

Just Double sided Tape to affix the streamlining body attachments and some Software Updates.

Then others had Turbo Failures, Buy backs on Implausible Co2/g/km (Irregularities.)  and there are the Safety Recalls now on Fuel Leaks.

Snagging issues, minor details really.

No idea which Golf variants the UK Safety Recalls on Steering & Fuel leaks apply to.

Obviously VW have not advertised them widely or loudly, or maybe even very silently.

Plus Honda Type R     Honda Civic Type R - 2 available from £30,460

Flavour of the month with journalists cars like Golf R's & Civic Type R's lose value just like any others, even before they leave the Dealerships,

ex Demonstrators are advertised with asking prices around £26,000.

Modern Hot hatches are obviously for driving and enjoying not investments.

i'm liking this video, and the R even more each time I look at it. Quite interesting to note on the dash display near the end, something like 2hrs 20 odd driving time in the R, and averaged 17mpg. Uh oh. And that's without a halfwit like me pressing the loud pedal very hard.

Must also say, I like the new Cupra 290 as well. Would love it if Skoda used the 4wd technology on the Octavia and brought the brand up to speed with a 290ps or 300ps version of Octavia vRS. Suppose that's what new Superb is?

Richard, don't think Mr Shmee gives a **** how he drives the cars ,as they are not his cars. Hardly representative of Joe Blogs driving style I would suggest. If you would like Real World Numbers drop me a line.

I see there are 11 Golf GTI Clubsport advertised on Autotrader.

From asking prices of £28,980 to £39,400.   That is one very specced up Edition 40.

Enjoy the new wheels !

Could this be for real at last. Will  it be limited production or take over from the R300.

Perhaps we will know at 11.30 am today.

" 2017 Volkswagen Golf to make its debut tomorrow

Facelifted hatch will get an interior makeover, fresh technology and new engines; lands 10 November

The facelifted Golf GTI will retain the same turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine as the outgoing model, albeit with a moderate lift in power beyond the standard 217bhp and 227bhp available today.

At the top of the petrol line-up will be a more powerful version of the four-wheel-drive Golf R, whose  turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder  motor is said to develop the same 414bhp as the R400 concept first wheeled out at the 2014 Beijing motor show."

Autocar & Autoexpress quoted yesterday.
