Fair enough, a grand is a lot of money, but then so is £300 to me when a play car is certainly not my only expense in life. I can just about afford it once I've paid the mortgage and all the bills eac

£171? eBay?

Yep, last 10 seconds of the auction stuck a bid in for £207 and got it for £171.

It had been crashed don't forget

*crashed twice and noted in log book an uneconomical to repair.

I bought a cheap android phone from CEX and stuck the Torque app on it, eventually got it working with the Carista dongle and plugged it into the Octy and even though the airbag light is on (BTW did I mention that I got curious so removed the clocks and caused an airbag light to come up? Well I did that.) It said no fault codes. It reads boost and everything but no fault codes. I don't know if anyone else has had any better luck or not but any help appreciated.

I've also changed the topic name. Why Croctavia? Well because it's a crock of s*** of course. :D I plan on getting another C off an Octavia and an R off a Superb and doing it properly.

If you want that turning off, just let me know...

It would be nice, but I can't get the car to you as it's not got insurance. Am I right in thinking the airbags won't work when the light is on?

I don't actually know. The answer is most likely that the airbag light showing means there's a fault in the system which may prevent the airbags from deploying, but that's not the questionreally.

Itll still work, as long as its fault free

I like that app. I originally got it because before my Octavia I has an Alfa 156, the EML used to come on all the time for something I knew was working, I just used to clear the code (just about every day). When I got the Octy I did this, Fast and Furious huh, shame the head unit doesn't have a G-sensor...

I like that, looks good and does a job.

Thanks :) The only thing is I'd like it a bit higher up, even moving the fuel flap, ASR etc. would help but I'm not brave enough to chop my daily...

Sit-rep: it's nearly half past 11 and I've just got back in from work which I finished before 7. Smashed the sump on the lane on the way into work this afternoon so after work we took the sump off and took it to a colleges fathers to be mended somehow, couldn't men's it properly as its thin ally but he had some really good sealant stuff that is supposed to be the dogs doodles so the whole cracked area of the sump is covered with that which includes the sump plug. Then we got it back on the car, went to the workshop for some oil but there was only transmission oil and hydraulic oil there. So I can't remember which but the car is running with one of those now and no sump plug. This may be interesting at Croft tomorrow.

Well my father went off to get me a new sump so that's here now.

Good luck on getting it sorted. I mite pop down to croft later on for a nosey!

I've some proper oil here if you need it.

im still breaking an octavia like yours if you need any (spare) bits (sumps etc)

Well I'm back home now from Croft. Had a great day overall albeit with a few issues at the start that were a bit of a pain. Signing on was delayed because of one of the staff fell over a trailer and needed an ambulance. Oops. So after signing on and briefing I got the sound testing over and done with and went out for sighting laps in Phills Fabia (thanks Phill) then pulled the Octy onto the grass, jacked it up and dropped the sump off, pushed the car into the tarmac so I could jack it up higher and have it on axle stands so I could fit the impact gun underneath. Got that fitted and some new oil in and we were away. Went out and did 2 laps then the red flag got waved. But then once the issues were sorted it was a good day, phill unfortunately split a cv boot which put him out of action which was a shame. Break pad wear indicator lit up on one of the wet sessions so I pulled in and had a look. Went out with the one armed mad in the 500 BHP Evo which was impressive, both car and driver. Then he came in my car for a session then I went out in mine and he followed me with my dad in with him. He said he couldn't overtake me for.a couple of laps because of how fast I was upto and into the corners.

Now all I need is an oil change a new set of front break pads and a set of tyres.

Right, so it's been a couple of weeks now since Croft and things are looking alright.

I'll start off with a picture of the old sump that I took off at Croft:

As you can see it's not looking too good, but the new one is on and the car is going well, ran perfectly all day no bother.

Tyres got a bit worn, the first couple of pictures are of the back two which would have been alright for another day at least but I think I must have hit a kerb a bit hard because there's a bleb in one of them.

IMG_0400_zpszh4jahgg.jpg

It's a shame because there's still quite a bit of tread left on them, but better safe than sorry.

Next is front right which isn't so good.

Really need to get some coilovers on and sort out that camber so it doesn't do that to my tyres any more.

Now today I got a bit of work done on the car that needed doing, I started off by fixing the drivers door handle so now I can open it from the outside without having to leave the window open, all it was was the cable wasn't caught far enough back on the little teeth on the end of the handle, so lock out, clip the cable back, lock back in and done. Works perfectly every time.

Then I changed the oil, again. Because when I changed the sump at Croft there will still have been tractor transition/hydraulic oil left in the filter so now new oil and filter should have got rid of that and it should be alright.

While the oil was draining I changed the break pads and painted the calipers red while I was at it.

Old Yellowstuff next to new Redstuff for comparison. The Yellows lasted for two days. Lets see how long Redstuff lasts for.

Then I got the power washer out, washed in the engine bay and washed the rest of the car and the Monte.

But I got bored and curious again so did a bit of weight saving in the interior. Don't think I need these bits in the dashboard:

Who needs screws anyway, right?

In the end it turned out to be a very good day, certainly one that will be remembered anyway. I wouldn't have wanted to go out for much longer with those break pads anyway so the sump didn't cut my day short. Even though I don't care about this car as much as the Monte I wouldn't have wanted to be going down the pit straight with no breaks.

Get some proper track tyres on her, cope better with the heat and don't fall apart so easily.

DAZZA66 has some Octy Spiders for sale with some part worn R888s on, but he's selling his car with the possibility that the new owner may want them to, but if the buyer doesn't want the wheels then I have dibs. Otherwise I'll be putting the wheels off the Monte on like before. They have lasted for a few track-days, the back wheels have lasted for rockingham, snetterton, bedford and croft while the fronts have done snetterton bedford and croft. So not too bad.

Found the Redstuff, worse than the Yellows on mine, not as good once they get hot.

red stuff are a step down from yellowstuff.... they will be worse no doubt. you need orange stuff track pads if you are just tracking it... (and track tyres)

Anything with EBC written on it will be ****e.

Tarox. That is all.

Ds2500 or ds3000 are good. Not cheap for either though.

If you're only on track, doesn't make sense to buy anything but track tyres. Federal rsr or nankang ns2r both a good shout.

Probably a bit hit and miss with brakes, I've found EBC greenstuff despite a lot of people saying their a poor brake pad, have been absolutely fine for my own needs on track and off
