Fair enough, a grand is a lot of money, but then so is £300 to me when a play car is certainly not my only expense in life. I can just about afford it once I've paid the mortgage and all the bills eac

Not backwards, but it sort of lent back as it was setting. I left it with some bits of foam under it and it moved a bit. It's rock solid now though, but on the wrong angle. Well spotted though.

I have a good eye for level, need it in my line of work ;)

Ordered 2 Briskoda "" stickers for the Octy last night, and there's a parcel heading my way as well. Stickers are going to be part of the rally theme that I want to start at some point. After the re-spray. I'll have to get the other part of it made up once they arrive.

  • Author

So the Briskoda stickers have arrived this morning, not going on until I get the rest of it made up.

Cut the passenger sun visor up so it fits round the Go-Pro

And bought the car a couple of tins of dog food. Yep, you read it right. I'm going to use a dog food tin as a cup holder when the dog is done with it.

And of course there was the brakes. I've bought a new pair of back discs and ordered some discs for the front to. Now the brakes are worth twice as much as I paid for the car. :D

What brakes have you chosen?

Got some cheapies for the rears. Pads were £21 which I got just before the MOT, discs were £25. But being rears they shouldn't be over worked. Fronts are getting EBC Yellowstuff pads that are sat waiting and EBC slotted and dimpled discs.

Good choice on the discs. Not entirely convinced by reviews of the yellowstuff pads so haven't used them myself.

Will be good to hear your verdict.

Thanks. I had greenstuff pads on the 60 horse Fabia and they were great at stopping the car but they broke up a bit round the edges, so I'm hoping these will be a bit tougher and be more than capable of stopping the car.

So I went into Northallerton and got these stickers:

Anyone guess what's happening with the Outofthi5world stickers?

Then came home, put the Fabia on the road and moved the Octy into the middle of the drive. Brought the 4 wheels out of the garage to the drive and started work in the rain. Wheels off the back of the Octy swapped with the 2 bad ones from the garage (bad tyres, not wheels) and break disks changed while the wheels were off. Then the two good wheels off the front of the Octy swapped with the bad ones from the back of the Octy making 4 bad tyres on the Octy. Then I washed the Octy for some reason, don't know why but I did. Then Octy on the side of the road and Fabia in the drive, washed the Fabia and put the 2 good wheels from the garage onto the Fabia along with the 2 from the Octy and washed the arches out while the wheels were off then washed all the gold wheels and removed huge amounts of lacquer from them with the dirt and slotted them in the back of the Octy for now then hoovered the Fabia out and put everything back in it's place. so not a bad day in the rain. Oh, and my front break discs have arrived, I wish I'd gone to check before I took all the wheels off the cars...

My mate put some yellow stuff on his Scooby the other week before a road rally we competed on. I wished him all the best and told him he should've just paid the extra and bought some Tarox pads.

He had brake fade all night and so changed them for some Tarox the next day.

No more brake fade.

Well apart from breaking up a little the greenstuff did a good job on the Fabia so we'll see how it goes, I'll give them a chance.

I'm sure they are, better...You always get what you pay for, unfortunately I don't have £160 for a set of pads..... think thats more than outofthisworld paid for his car!

yellowstuff on my fabia worked for 2 years on the track and road..... I'm sure Haydn could have broken it, but you can just drive around it, if thats all you can afford.... don't know whats on my octy... they are newish for sure, but the pads were probably £14 a pair jobs....

Nearly, I won the auction at £171. :D

The pads and discs for the rear came to £50 and £277 for pads and discs for the front, so at £327 that's £15 less than twice what the car is worth :D

God help me if I fuel it up!

Wow, for that price you could of upgraded to 312mm front setup off the vrs and 256mm rear setup, new good quality discs and pads and had some change. Even with the upgraded ebc you can't beat size for dealing with the extra heat/stress of the track.

Think part of the problem was I bought it in bits so back pads came for the MOT then when I took the pads off it looked like smaller discs had been fitted so new discs ordered and yellowstuff pads to upgrade there and sort out the pad wear light. I was going to leave it at that but then I thought f-it and got the discs for the front. I could have got new calipers and carriers ect but then I'd have had to have had them fitted because I don't fancy my break bleeding skills one bit, and with badly bleed breaks me and Ben or whoever gets in could go into a tyre-wall a lot faster than last time. I don't fancy that no matter how much I don't care about the car. The idea is not to kill the passenger. Anyway, let's get back off that tangent, the breaks are here, they will get fitted sometime in the near future, here's what's left to do:

Solder indicator joints.

Fix drivers door loom. Not too fussed about this at the minute to be fair.

Fix drivers door leak.

New disks on front and new pads to install.

Do something in the engine bay.

Yer brake bleeding can be a bit daunting at first but it's not that scary, if you need to change your fluid or any calipers in the future I recommend a gunson ezie bleed, makes bleeding a one man job and very simple. Hopefully the ebc will do the job and you won't have problems. Just when you change them make sure the slider pins are good and free and relubed with the correct grease not copper slip and the pistons in the calipers push back easy and not rusted to hell.

I wish to not hit a tyre wall again at any speed, regardless of your brake bleeding skills :D

Wasnt that bad was it? For you anyway :D

Use Yellowstuff on mine never had any problems with them, they can be harsh on the disc though, disc will need replacing before the pads.

I'll take some of the door clips off you broke some of mine when changing the window regulator, bring them to Bedford with you I'm not in a hurry for them.

Ah. Right. Well I could have put money on that happening... Went out to the car today and it looks like all but one of those clips made it into the pile of bits that I chucked a couple of days before you posted that, Should have maybe mentioned that but hey ho. How many do you need? If the scrap yard have an Octavia in on Wednesday I may be going down there to get a door loom so will be taking the door card off, I could pop you a couple of clips off while I'm there if you want.

Managed to craft a cup holder out of a dog food can and some pipe insulation today, then tried to find a place to mount it in the car and had an idea. Make it removable!

Passenger seat-belt seams like the ideal place to mount a cup holder, after all, I won't be needing it on track will I? So first job was to feed the dog, then the can was washed out well and some pipe insulation cut to sise, this will stop the botle rattling around but also stop the sharp can cutting into it and making a mess, pipe insulation stuck into place with number plate tape which seams to work:

IMG_0304_zpsncgqo1it.jpg

Then the mount, rear seat-belt was the donor for this:

IMG_0302_zpscegzddyw.jpg

Cable tied in place with Duck tape wrapped round it tightly seams to hold it nice and firm.

IMG_0305_zpsfutgzx29.jpg

And the final product:

IMG_0306_zpsgzo2gdjz.jpg

Great thing about that is that you can adjust where it is by moving the seat.

If you want an Outofthi5world ergonomic cup holder then all you have to do is send me some money and I will make you one. Special orders only terms and conditions apply...

Anyway, sticker time next:

Slotted some new things on it today:

IMG_0309_zpsfa1knzty.jpg

Drove it backwards and forwards a bit and they work. Haven't fallen off yet either so I say job well done. Came apart quite easily too which was nice.

Then I tried to solder those indicator joints up again which didn't work, stupid soldering iron. So I've put heat-shrink over them and re-fitted the bulb. Job done.

I had a look in the engine bay at the air box and there is another air intake at the bottom of the box that goes down towards the engine but it's not been cut out, and it has a place where you can slide a shutter into it to close it off. Anyone know why it is like this? Anyone cut out this section and put in another intake pipe to the air box? Thinking of putting a pipe in through there leading to a bonnet scoop or something. I don't know, Possibly not though but we'll see.

Things to do now:

Fix drivers door loom. Not too fussed about this at the minute to be fair.

Fix drivers door leak.

Do something in the engine bay.

So mostly just a bit of cosmetic work today on the Octy, started by removing the aerial from the roof and filling the hole with, erm, filler of course:

Before:

IMG_0310_zpssofuy57u.jpg

Filler in and sanded:

IMG_0311_zpsj1axik3m.jpg

Some paint that doesn't match at all and we're right:

IMG_0312_zpslloimtae.jpg

I sanded down and painted over a bit of a rust spot on the front right corner of the bonnet just above the headlight and another just next to the top corner of the grill, just to try and stop the rust before it gets sprayed.

Then I found a place to fit the fire extinguisher:

IMG_0313_zpsavpbuk39.jpg

I got two nuts from the garage and bolted it onto the bolts that are stuck up there that must do something... Anyway, it fits and with a bit of pipe insulation from the length I bought for the cup holder it doesn't rub on the gear-stick return spring either.
