PD Engine or not

Featured Replies

Hello I have a 2004 Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDI.  I service it myself and have used PD oil. I only recently found out what PD actually means - so my question is how can I tell if this car is a PD engine or not - it seems if it is the oil type used is much more critical.

Thanks

Steve

Its a PD as all 1.9s of that age are. The correct oil will be marked with a minimum VW specification number, which I'm sure someone will soon mention.

505.01 or 507 from memory, only the SDI isn't PD, but then it's not turbocharged either.

505.01 for FIXED service engines. 507 for variable service intervals ( which I remember someone mentioning that Fabias don't use). But ,OP SAID

Hello I have a 2004 Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDI.

Clue is in the "T" (for Turbo charged ), and I believe all the TDI models are PD ( pump duese ) engines.

Did they ever make a PD designed SDI engine for any model? caddy or somthing?

Yes, the later 2.0 litre SDI's are PD.

All the Fabia TDIs are PD, the Fabia came out at about the time VW were changing to PD - I think the Fabia got the PD TDI engine before they switched to PD for the main VW models - golf etc.
