Skoda Fabia MK1 heater blowing hot and cold when it decides to...

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

So I noticed this strange thing with my Fabia (2001) the other day. This mainly happens during longer trips. If I set and leave the temperature to, let's say, 26 and continue with my trip, at some point the heater starts blowing a very hot air. Turning the handle to 18 or even all the way down doesn't change anything, it still keeps blowing hot. I'm then forced to turn off the heater as it becomes very hot in the car (however even after turning it off I can still feel hot air coming in through the vents, only weaker). After some five minutes (and leaving the switch on lowest temperature) I turn the heater on and it starts blowing cold. If I try to adjust the temperature to a little warmer it sometimes blows cold, sometimes hot.

This morning, when the heater started blowing very hot air I tried setting the switch to lowest temp. and switching on AC. It worked for the first time. Later I tried doing it again and it didn't work.

What should I start with when looking for solution?

And yes, being too optimistic I figured that I might be able to get some info by scanning BCM faults with OBD-II scanner but had no luck....

Very common problem i got it too and finaly i hae to change this V68 flap positon servo motor.

My problem was that I only got either cold or hot air. Sometimes, even if I wanted cold. During a ride might start to become hot air.

I changed the part and the problem disappeared. Changing took some time but there was no actual problems. After a bit of reading what needs to be done so it can actually also be replaced. Now that the work has already been done so I would think that now the time would be 45 minutes when it should be replaced.

The first time, the time it took 2 hours. There were so many screws you had to take out of the glove box first, and then the rest of the parts.

Before replacing the motor I would try running the basic setting procedure with VCDS.

Should you replace the flap motor the basic setting procedure will need to be run too.

Access is fiddly but ok. Take the glovebox out and then the wrap around part of the centre console (that goes under the controls and into the footwells). The motor once unplugged slides out on a frame.

Hey guys.

Thank you for your prompt replies. I'm kinda glad to hear that it's a common problem... meaning it can be solved  It's a bit cold outside where I am and my garage is too small to do such things comfortably so I'll have to wait for better weather and will start fixing.

Thanks!
