If you had £30-50k to spend on a toy...

Featured Replies

If you were in the market for a second car for fun and you had 30-50k what would you get?

Running cost not really relevant nor practicality.

You could get a V8 Aston Martin or a fast Jag but is a GT that much different than a hot normal car?

Would you get a trackday tool like an Exige or an Atom?

Stupidly powerful Yank lump like a 700hp Mustang?

A classic 911, Jenson interceptor?

Or nothing, just get a better day to day car?

C63, no wait an M2, oh hang on, a C7 Corvette, no no that's not it, a 911 maybe, or a Caymen as that's a relative of the 911 so counts as one choice depending on which car is availed, perhaps an M3/4,

  • luckily I bought a current 30-50k car when it was £14k in 2007 , couldn't afford something like this now...  I bloomin love it ..  Its somewhat changed from when I bought it ..

A 4.7 V8 Vantage, not the quickest car out there, but 420 BHP and RWD is enough when you want it, plus it can also be quiet enough if you needed to use it for a practical journey.

V8 Manual R8

Mmm an Aston. Any aston.

But tbh if someone graces me with that cash id rather boringly clear a chunk off me mortgage and spend the loose change on a younger daily...

Is that what you call her? :D

I'd have a Lotus or something. If I'm getting a toy I want it to be fun. Or I'd get a standard car like an Evo or something and then make it super quick.

Porsche Cayman S PDK. Ok it's £700 over budget but let's not quibble about such small amounts.

+1

I'd be looking at something from the Porsche stable

R/T Charger.. '67 if poss.

New Charger

Hemi Cuda..

Hell.. most of the old mopar stuff appeals..

If £50k's enough, a Hennessey Velociraptor.

With that budget you can get quite a few more exotic vehicles that will appreciate in value rather than depreciate.

The right Porsche, Aston or Ferrari would be fun and won't cost too much to run.

My brother-in-law is involved with company that super-charges them. I think he said his Aston is now around 600bhp

If anybody watches "Supercar Megabuild", they were on there a couple of weeks ago: http://gmr-uk.co.uk/

EDIT: Oh and I assure you, its not very quiet....

I'm on a voluntary ban from bikes so I wouldn't even be thinking about cars otherwise, I'll probably buy about 4 bikes and play with them.

But since it's just me and the boy now I can't really justify dangerous hobbies.

I was thinking about this for a while and I thought that since it's a 2nd car, it has to be an event to drive it.

So it has to be way different than your daily driver. So I think that rules out M3, RS4 any fast version of an 'ordinary' car etc

GTs are a bit odd. They're like super nice versions of daily cars. Wild stuff like Lambos and Ferraris (I know someone linked to a 400 above but it weren't bonny) are out of budget.

Vantage and DB9s maybe. The AM name gives a tingle as something special but in performance terms you could get more bang for your buck elese where. I get the feeling that if AM it would better as a Roadster.

Exige/Atom etc I wonder how much use you would actually get with them except on a track day. Would they just be too harsh on normal pockmarked tarmac to enjoy.

GTR, R34 - I hadn't though about the R34 it's certainly iconic. And the GTR is supposedly one of the best cars to drive there is. But would you get the tingle like driving an AM would give you at 30mph. Maybe it's a car to drive and that would change opinion.

Porches not sure if they float my boat or not. A favourite toy car of mine as a nipper was an early 80s green whale tailed 911 Turbo. I thinki that's maybe the pinnacle of Porche for me.

Yank tanks could sound good but would they only look good from the outside?

Too much choce if anything.

Audi R8

I was going to ask, Why, have you?

On reading your post #19 it looks like you have, although recently you have paid a much higher price of which I'm sure you would gladly swap back for.

Anyway I think the Lady Elanore suggested the best one.

Not pretentious but very exciting, eye catching, and blokes and girls will like you, and be envious rather than just plain jealous and hate you, or think you are a to55er.

A Cobra. .........................So long as your hair is not like the mad scientist's, Lol.

Good hunting.

I've had some fairly nice cars and I find just driving an R34 GT-R about normally a bit of a special occasion.

Can't describe it, just feels a special car.

Bonus is they are appreciating.

It'll be a couple of years away anyway, but it's fun to speculate.

I am pretty sure my hair would look like a mad scientist having been dragged through a hedge backwards and at speed if I had a Cobra. Wind in hair motoring at it's best :)
