19" would be a bad move if you wanted to retain at least some of the ride quality. IMHO of course.

Totally agree. 18s would be the absolute max I'd go to and even at that, the 40 profile is on the hard side (I put 45s on), after that be prepared for back breaking ride quality. The comfort difference will be quite noticeable between 16 and even the 18, not to mention 19s. The Sirius wheels are gorgeous though (slightly biased I know as I also have these [emoji3]) - only downside is they will be a bit more difficult to clean.

The problem with 16" rims is that they are usually a bit skinny on Skoda - generally 6.5" and the 205/55r16 tyres fitted are the smallest diameter of the 3 standard sizes fitted (205/55r16; 225/45r17 & 225/40r18), so they look a bit under-done.

Assuming your wheel tyre laws have a little bit of room to experiment & assuming your speedometer currently reads 8% under (pretty normal with 205/55r16) I'd fit one of the following combinations (depending on how crap your roads are):

16x7.5 ET45-50 (somewhere in that range) with 225/55r16

17x8 ET45-50 with 235/45r17

18x8 ET45-50 with 235/40r18

I've got the 18" Themistos with the stock tyres and don't find them that bad even out on the rural roads around here. Square edged potholes are a bit of a risk but other than that it's quite comfortable.

It used to be the case that you could tweak the speedometer impulse setting with VCDS to correct for larger or smaller diameter tyres but on newer cars it seems to be limited to selecting from a list of predetermined settings.

The speedometer is deliberately programmed to over-read for legal reasons (it's not allowed under-read so adding a few percent to it keeps that from happening). The odometer however is spot on with the stock setup, so if you go to a larger wheel, you'll under-read on the odometer.

I think one of the best calculators to check if it will fit :)

In the table below the graph there is Circumference and Speedometer info - just keep it as close as possible to the original :)

I changed from 16's to 18's on my Greenline and I think it rides fine. I stuck with the standard 225/40/18 tyre size as well.

I'm receiving BBS LM replicas 18x8" ET40 with 225/40-18 tires tomorrow. I'll post some pics after I get them fitted

I've got the stock 18" Thermistos, love them. The ride is perfectly acceptable (NZ has some pretty crappy roads) and never harsh. The only issue is, when my wife drives they are magically drawn to kerbs.... ;o((((

I run 19's in the summer (came with car) and 17's in winter (also came with car). Photos of my car below on the 19's (and more on here in the gallery too somewhere...)

I love the 19's aesthetically and when I'm on my own or with one passenger all absolutely fine. Four up with load the inside rears rub...

On 17's all fine whatever is in the car...but the arches and 'stance' of the car looks empty.

Ideally I think I'd go for 18's ideally, 8" width all round possibly....

But for now, until the tyres go, I'll stick with the 19's and the family can walk or get the bus  :D  :x  :p
