How do you mean beat? 0-60? Quarter mile? Track? Go to a BMW half-series forum and challenge someone.

(Their not good enough to be called Mini's)

I'll say "No." :)

Driven both and round the corners and twisties I am afraid mini would woop the Fabia however on a straight bit I would say the Fabia would give the Mini a good run for its money. The tuned Fabia I would believe have a load more torque than the 1.6 supercharged Mini ( However I could be wrong)

in a straight line, not trying to compare the chassis

Ive played with a few, as they seem to have a chip on thier shoulder with Fabia vRS's, and yes, they do get beaten. :D

A cooper s works gave me a hard time though, so don't mess with them.

Mini Mini Mini Mini. That extra few horses will make the difference IMO.

at least your all honest

my calibra turbo kicked the **** out of one the other night

but the amount of fuel it used doing it is why I am getting a Fabia Vrs

I beat a cooper S when my car was standard, but he missed a gear so it does not really count.

Handling wise they would pee all over a furby, even with suspension mods etc, but a remapped furby in a drag race would take it I would say, up to maybe 110mph on a private strip. The main thing counting against the furball is the thing that makes it so good in the first place, that big sodding lump of metal under the bonnet!

All said and done though, great as the cooper S is, I still see it as the new XR3i Cabriolet, a bit of a hairdressers car ;)

It's not un common for Cooper S' to have a modified supercharger pulley wheel though. Then they would obviously be more powerful than standard and might give you a shock.

a "standard" Cooper S is slower in a straight line than my "tuned" Fabia, obviously if it were an "S Works" or it had any other kind of tuning i'm sure it would be a fair fit quicker.

My friend Matt has one, we have gone on our local "runway" (private track of course :)) and done 0-60 runs etc. In all honesty my Fabia doesnt really get a hold of the race until it gets to 80 MPH where it does begin to pull a few lenghts. By the time it reaches 120 MPH I have about 4-5 lenghts (didnt get the tape measure out :D).

Now for the corners, well again with the springs & stut brace it helps my Fabia a lot over a stock Cooper S but in all honesty the Cooper S is a still quicker. A lot comes down the drivers skill and "commitment" and you do get more of a sensation of speed in the Cooper S so me and Matt both commented on how you felt like you were going faster round a bend than you actually where.

In answer to your question about "beating" a Cooper S it all depends upon the conditions. But in straight line drags. YES. in corners, MAYBE (if the Fabia is modified and the Cooper S isn't).

If the Cooper S has had any tuning then undoubtadly it will be quicker than 160 BHP Fabia's. But they probably would still have a job against Xaviers and Jason's.

Chris.

These questions are always good for 'Pub' conversation, but really are a bit academic.

The only true comparison would be a '5th Gear' type shootout round a track, like Tiff's vRS vs Mini Cooper: equivalent driving skills incorporating bends and straights.

I think in this scenario, an Eibached vRS, remapped, with 170 (ish) BHP and loads more torque would repeat the honours.

In the real world, its more likely to be "take your brain out...keep up with me round this bend sideways if you dare......squealing tyres......fast gearchanges......not letting the revs dip........I drove a white van round country lanes for 12 years..........you've been working as a hair-stylist all your life, and you've got a Cooper 'S', 'cause Madonna's got one".........etc..etc...No contest really.

However, when I finally get One-Clicked ( ), I'll deliberately go after some and if I get my ar5e kicked, fair dues, I'll report back. :D

John.

didnt get the tape measure out

Poor show. Try again :D

Only cooper S ive come up against, and im sure it was a works, as the exhaust note was very loud..

there was absolutely nothing in it... all the way up to vmax..

Only ever come across one cooper S. I reckon it was std. Can't say their was anything in it between the 2. Brother on the other hand has had mine up against his mates std cooper s. He leaves him for dead but reckons its down to the driver of the cooper.

Edit: Just done a 160bhp fly wheel power at Awesome GTI.

130 pd Octy elegance with a dragon tuning box will stay side by side with a cooper s all the way up to one one ohhh so no reason why a tuned fabia vrs wont....cooper works may be a little more difficult :D

Indeed.... but surely the true question should be comparing standard cars? It could be said that modifying the Fabia to beat a standard Mini was "cheating" ;)

I know of one absolutly standard fabia with 158 bhp according to the rolling road no mods or tuning boxes so that one would be ok but a standard 130 hp fabia would be close

200Kg's lighter, revs to 6.5k easy, 170bhp, 162lbft.

my money says that the cooper would win but at the same time i have driven neither. i have however only ever been up against one cooper S and i couldn't lose him at all, i have however followed a few fabia vRS's all md'd i think and i had to hold back with every single one of them otherwise i would either get far too close to them or nudge them.

only my experience :)

Agreed, so do we compare the "standard" cooper, which was beaten on the track on both top gear and 5th gear by a standard fabia vRS, or do we compare a Mini Cooper that some german cunningly slotted a supercharger onto with a fabia vRS that has again been cunningly modified   :D

the cooper S isn't modified, or should we compare the cooper to a fabia sdi??

:P

the cooper S isn't modified' date=' or should we compare the cooper to a fabia sdi??

:P[/quote']

Bugger off :D :D :D

An SDI should be compared to a mini One I reckon ;)

I don't think the fabia vRS was destined to be marketed against a cooper S, it falls into the standard cooper bracket, after all when a mag tests "hot hatches" it puts the furball in against the cooper, not the "S"

But back to the original thread, can a mapped fabia beat a cooper S, sometimes yes, sometimes no :)

Cooper S does 0-100 in 20+ seconds.

"Works" does 0-100 in 17.2 seconds.

A remapped Fabia would have a good chance of beating the S in a straight line, and would not be hugely behind the Works.

i got my a$$ handed to me by a cooper works on a 5 mile straight road and thats when i was around 180bhp.

no story to it im afraid, just a helluva beating :D

My Fabia Vrs is standard and it is JUST about quicker than a Cooper S in a straight line. I had a bit of a tangle with one a few weeks back and he was quicker than me around the roundabouts but i was just about hauling him in the squirty bits between the many roundabouts that we had to go round.
