Wasn't Clarkson done for DD a while back? And nothing wrong with ginger. You're right about the other bits though.

You're right about being ginger, however that particular ginger really needs to do the country a favour and b*ggar off somewhere on retirement never to be heard of again. Karen Gillan on the other hand ;)

I can't find anything on Google about JC drink driving, however happy to be corrected. Clarkson was filmed on TG drinking and "driving" but was actually "sailing in international waters" and short of a breathalyser test may not actually have been alcohol (a lot of old TG was faked for amusement).

For all the sneering (not on here, mostly in the comments section of the Guardian and elsewhere), some expressing a dislike of Evans or LeBlanc etc etc, I'm really looking forward to watching a beauti

  • No one.   Just leave it to Chris Harris, Sabine and Rory.   No need for doing stupid things and blowing up stuff. That's what Clarkson, Hammond and May do and you are never going to replicate the

Loved the Ariel Nomad. I want one! It was beautifully filmed, Matt was only okay though. Clarkson would really have bought it to life.

Didn't enjoy anything else in the show.

That was the arctic challenge and they very deliberately played it up by making and drinking G&Ts in the car.

I thought the show was OK but I don't think you can compare it with the other three stooges. It is like comparing the new Dads Army film with the original, it can't be done.

Will have to wait for this to bed in. Have to say I was disappointed. I liked Matt and he and Chris clearly get on well, Sabine will be good I think.

However Top Gears problems for me weren't just about Clarkson, Hammond and May, it was also a general thing where the messing around got a bit too much and in the end wasn't that funny anymore. Looks as though this has continued in the same vein. Don't get me wrong I don't want to go back to the original type of TG with William Woollard, but I think BBC had an opportunity to rework a pretty tired format and didn't take it, in fact I fear it may end up being a bit worse.

Not one pointless challenge, but 3 in one episode? Come on.

You can compare it when the only thing BBC appear to have changed is the presenters and half of the celebrity circuit.

Now back to Wheeler Dealers.

:D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

Just watched extra gear.

Very amateur, quite raw, nervous presenters. Much better than the main program.

Evans was less shouty on it too, I don't think he can handle a script, better at just speaking off the cuff. Chris Harris much better at talking and driving than Evans.

Must figure out when/where its going to be available here (iplayer not accessible from ROI) but now - must get some kip before going back into work :s

Thought le blanc was just that, blank. if he's an actor then I should have a dozen oscars. Talk about stilted. The show itself was a rehash of a rehash, they didn't even try 'new' ideas. Two teams race to top of a hill, race to Blackpool, both have been done bigger and better by the old team, whats betting next week they will turn a couple of cars into amphibians and drive across the lake in Evans back garden?
The highlight was Sabine, she can race around my ring anytime

I'm happy to be wrong about JC and DD. Just had it in my mind that he'd been done by the police a few years back.

(Plus one for the comment about Dad's Army. Desperately wanted to love the film, but, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. What a waste of a talented cast. Excluding from that description CZ-J, who - and I know I'm probably in a very small minority - is wooden on screen and does absolutely nothing for me in the nether region department. But she'd probably feel the same about me, so we're even. Sorry, off topic.)

Well, after reading this thread I wasnt expecting much but I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it! Yeah, it was a bit wooden and awkward at times but its the very first episode, of course it'll take time to click. I agree about the last bit with the jeeps being rushed, but I'm sure they'll improve the timings of the segments.

Matt was fine to be honest, needs to relax a bit more but he has a nice manor in front of the camera, the ladies like him so the Mrs will watch it without moaning too much.

I think the flack Chris gets is purely because a good chunk of people don't like him whatever he does, he didnt come across too shouty imo, yeah he was talking loud but I think thats partly down to the studio being a barn and partly because thats his style. I get the 'TFI Friday' comments but the same production team are doing TG so it was likely to happen.

Overall I think it's got potential, I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

....and the reason being for that is?  :notme:

Evans takes to Twitter to defend the show.

I'm sure it's the most watched program on the I player as people watch it to see what if the reports are true of how bad it was.

Shouting FACT everywhere doesn't escape the truth that it was SH**E....FACT

I haven't listened all the way through his breakfast show this morning, but it's funny that he's now covering the newspapers headlines and irritatingly sarcastically and ironically NOT talking about Flopgear. Now off to Twitter to see what replies he's got for the above tweets!

Probably the best critique yet

Comments on the volume in the studio are spot on considering the size of it

Chris Evans is indeed marmite, he does need a few less'yays', but I'm sure that will come

People are writing it off on the evidence of one show, can anyone remember how sh1te the previous crew were on their debut?

Let's hope given time they can silence the Clarkson posse?

I think that was a bit weak. Better to have put his hands up and admit it was a bit rough but that things will get better as they find their feet.

I saw that and I thought "Christ Chris, it would be better to wait and see what the next programme brings before making statements like that. "

Watched about 20 mins of it and turned it off.  I'll maybe try watching next series, as others have already said the first few seasons of Top gear weren't great, hopefully they'll have sorted the show out by then.

There's a few things, imho, they need to do to make a good start,

Get rid of that shrill, ginger ****, and whilst they're at it boot the drink driving American out the door as well.  How the BBC thought it was ok to have an admitted drink driver on a car show I just can't figure.

Stop trying to copy "old" top gear.  The format was getting tired and stale - recreating it with cr*ppier presenters just didn't work, the departure of Clarkson, Hammond and May gave them a perfect opportunity to "reimagine" the show.

Get some decent presenters.  Hopefully Sabine Smit and Chris Harris will get more airtime soon as they're much more genuine but they really need to be looking out on the "internets" for the next top presenters, I would vote for Rebecca Jackson amongst others.

Stop spending so much money on films, imho some of the best top gear episodes are the cheap car challenges.  £100 cars, Student/Young person cars etc as this are easy for everyone to identify with - constant banging on about £1m supercars etc whilst nice to see once in a while gets wearing as most people will never afford them.

I do worry that "The grand tour" will be ruined by Amazon virtually flinging money at it, but we'll see.  I seriously doubt it could be any worse than the first 20mins of last nights "Top Gear".

My thoughts exactly.

I guess that the only reason any of us watch it is because it's the only car programme that's regularly on terrestrial TV.

I wanted to give it a fair crack of the whip but honestly with Evans as the main presenter I can't see it happening really and can't see him getting much better.

I wonder what the "facts" will be next time!

Mrs G is making a good recovery thanks Jerry, she's been doing her exercises whilt stood at the Ironing board, the sink and whilst walking slowly pushing the lawn mower.

If you were a decent chap you'd buy her a high stool, & (maybe) a ride-on lawn mower.....

Ducks & runs, DC

I wonder what the "facts" will be next time!

Exactly, FACT is that was bound to happen because people have been dying to see it, maybe they will start wondering why now.

Fact rhymes with AXED...
