That the other 3 didnt feel the need to shout to be heard..

Matt has a deep voice and won't have any problems carrying it across the hanger, whereas Chris has a girly high-pitched voice and has clearly been told to project his voice.

The others had years of experience to get that right, although hamster was a little shout at time iirc.

For all the sneering (not on here, mostly in the comments section of the Guardian and elsewhere), some expressing a dislike of Evans or LeBlanc etc etc, I'm really looking forward to watching a beauti

  • No one.   Just leave it to Chris Harris, Sabine and Rory.   No need for doing stupid things and blowing up stuff. That's what Clarkson, Hammond and May do and you are never going to replicate the

Watched last week, wont be tonight.

Not sure what you're thinking to make this point?!?

I was thinking that other presenters and guests have never needed to shout. I would guess they are all using radio mic's otherwise the audience at the back would never hear the interviews etc.

Read yesterday that ep2 was indeed recorded before the criticism of ep1. They've made changes for ep3 but tonight's will probably be **** awful again.

Ready for another ego-fest, looking forward to extra gear...can you get a Fifth Gear box set?

2 minutes to go before......Antiques Roadshow starts.

Not sure if it's because I like Mclaren but,,,,,,,,,,, E2 looks a bit better than E1 so far,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

the dialogue between Chris and Matt does still seem 'clunky',,,,,,,,,,,,,,

OK, the challenge doesn't seem to help them bond,,,,,,,,,, the old trio were much better.

Much better episode this week. It felt better put together and the segment's were much better.

Better but not great.

I get the feeling Evans is an owner of fast and expensive cars, but not a driver particularly.

Also I thought the banter between Eddie and Matt and Eddie and Charlene was much funnier than anything Evans did.

Leave the track driving to Chris Harris I think.

And the celebrity interview was **** awful.

A definite improvement, but the Star.... segment was dire and Chris is still a tit.

Extra gear good again.

Better than ep 1. Jenson looked like he enjoyed himself but the 4x4 segment has been done before....Red Rangie, knackered Toyota and 2wd Suzuki, anyone?

I thought james' suzuki was 3wd? ;)

Better but only because there was a bit less titting about. The celebrity back scratching is getting very annoying, it's like the Graham Norton show with cars, interviews are just as pointless too. I do like Matt though, but where was Sabine?

Sure there's one less feature now as well because they're too busy talking **** in the middle bit.

bit better but still its the presenters are not great...it just feel awkward to watch

Maybe the papers will be right, or will say it enough that it happens.

The BBC want Matt LaBlanc to sign up for a second series and ta ra to Chris Evans.

I want to watch car shows, and even old Fifth Gears, but i do not want the TV Licence fee wasted on the Fees paid to Celebrity Guests and old muckas of Chris Evans appearing on Top Gear.

Last nights show must have been one very expensive one to have produced.

I read recently that the budget for old Top Gear was £450k per show and the BBC had increased it to £650k per show for the new series to make sure it's successful.

Probably. I didn't like Evans bragging about his new non Ferrari purchase either.

Moley,

That would have to be an average would it not, because the trip to South Africa taking 3 'celebrities' will not have been done for 'much cheapness'.

Yes, I would imagine the figures quoted were / are an average per show for a series. In the past the BBC made more in selling the show overseas than it cost to make and I'm sure the BBC would like that ratio to remain. Last weeks show was slated in the US so if countries don't want the next series the BBC will have a problem.

Old Top Gear was getting a bit stale and needed some new ideas to keep it going. With the old crew departing here was an opportunity to refresh the show, but they have missed a trick. Evans is the wrong man for the job, I only watched episode 1 and Matt LeBlanc was OK, but do we need 'big' names to front a UK motoring show?

Mix the show up with some challenges and sensible car reviews, give us some news as to what manufactures are doing, ditch the star interview, but give us presenters who know what they're talking about and can present the show.

I'll come out and say it but I really enjoyed last night's episode, on the whole. Mostly I think because on the whole they let the cars do the talking. I loved the McLaren section - thought Button's input was entertaining, and enjoyed the SA section much more than the Reliant piece the previous week. I really like LeBlanc, but find him much better in the recorded sections rather than the studio where he seems stilted so far. Am still not sure about the interview section where it feels Evans is covering up a big weakness by resorting to the same silly gameshow tactics he does when he has guests on TFI. I wouldn't mind if the game was entertaining or even surprising, but it's not. On the whole though I'm not missing the old team as much I thought, and certainly don't miss Hammond one jot. I'm hoping that the almost identical format is to ease the transition and that a new stamp is put on the show over a period of time. Top Gear always shines for me when the cars are front and centre, and I felt that happened last night.

To be fair, all three of the old team used to brag in a similar vein on numerous occasions.

You do realise how much of an earner TG is for the BBC - it's certainly no waste of the license fee and pays for many more things to be produced..
