Focus ST arriving sooner than expected - what would you do?

Featured Replies

So I've still got until June next year on my PCP.  But I can VT, given my deposit and payments, in December.

I ordered a Focus ST and the dealer has told me that if I forego the optional heated steering wheel, I can have my car on 1st September rather than waiting 14-16 weeks.

My dilemma is this: I'm going to be around £800 short of having made 50% repayments on 1st September - do I pay the £800, write it off and hand the car back or do I repay the full amount outstanding (£12,900) and then sell the car privately and hope to get more than £12,100?

What are 63 plate VRS's with 22,500 miles selling for in the real world (yes, I can get a valuation online but it doesn't necessarily bear any relevance to real life)?  I can't see them fetching much more than £11,500?

I appreciate I'm going to lose money either way; just looking to cut my losses.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I got £11600 trade in for my '63 plate with 55k miles on it.

Why not see if a skoda dealer will buy it off you and clear the remaining finance?

The Ford dealer will want your money sooner. Ask them for a valuation on the vrs and tell them this may sway your decision whether to take the car early or wait (assuming this decision hasn't already been made!). Also ask your dealer/VWFS to confirm if you are in negative equity.

The most financially prudent decision appears to be to stick to original plan and VT in December, but I would imagine you're itching to get the new car sooner. In which case I would simply swallow the £800, this may not necessarily be the cheapest way but it does at least offer cost certainty. I wouldn't be forking out £13k unless you have a buyer lined up.

My wife, bless her, said (in all seriousness) "does it cool the steering wheel down in summer?"

I wonder which bit of "heated" caused her problems?

If your luck's anything like mine, they'll announce the air conditioned steering wheel the day after you pick yours up  :dull:

Crikey £11.5k for a 63 on 22.5k?

Did they creep up in value or something? :wonder:
