Am about to embark on purchasing a new 1.5 Tsi ‘Karoq Edition, petrol, maual  or DSG haven’t decided probably through Carwow.    If you knew then what you know now if you’ve purchased on PCP via Carwow is there any advice re pitfalls, servicing packages, GAP extra...   thanks in advance. 

You won't be buying a petrol 1.5 Edition they don't make them any more only available in SE L or 2nd hand

Firstly Carwow are an introduction agency, they are paid a fee by dealers for finding customers. 

So you will actually be buying from a dealer (who is simply using carwow to advertise a good price and attract potential customers)

 

I suspect you will be offered the dealers PCP (which is usually the manufacturers one), so comes with whatever offers exist at time of signing up

You have the option of settling the PCP within 14 days of signing at time of collecting car (not the ordering date) without penalty (just few days interest)

You can also settle a PCP later, but it will be under an early repayment clause so might include extra month or 2 of interest

(There are separate threads on settling PCPs early)

 

Servicing packages are usually very limited, often one oil change service and one major service.

It simply allows you to pay £x each month rather than pay invoice with your card at time of doing. 

Useful if you like to budget exactly, but it is not a charity giveaway.  You could just as easily transfer £20 into a deposit account each month to save up.

 

GAP is useful if you have a high proportion of the purchase price on finance, but dealers often charge 3 times what a policy bought separately will cost

Just follow links on something like Martin Lewis moneysaving and save £250 on what the dealer charges

 

Similarly dealers often offer lucrative (to them) add ons such as special paint treatments.  You can get these much cheaper elsewhere.

 

One final one to consider is the 5 year warranty, much more comprehensive than a policy added later, but needs to be bought before car is registered

That's good to know... SE L was 1st choice with additional sunroof.  Think i would prefer Alcantara seats to full leather also and smaller wheels...this settles it.  Thanks :)

Thank you.  That's really helpful and informative.  Am pleased I've discovered this forum.  1st new car for me also so I wanted to get it right.  Looks like edition 1.5 may not be an option.  SE L with sunroof as extra will be fine.   Just need to decide DSG or manual.  Thanks again

My vote goes to the DSG box. Very easy to drive, nice and relaxed but shifts well when you need it. 

 

Some comment on a bit of lag when moving off, but I think it's something you work around after a short while as it's a combination of the box, auto-hold electronic brake and start/stop. 

 

I'd have a DSG every time now.

Thank you, good to know.  One of the dealership guys enlightened me re DSG when I said I liked the responsiveness of a manual.  He said the DSG can change quicker, picks the right gear and not much in it re mpg...  must test drive one.

I'd definitely recommend a test drive. 

 

What I've found works well is a quick dab of the accelerator prior to moving off (lights at amber, gap coming up at a junction, etc) to re-start the engine and disengage the auto-hold, then it's good to go when it's time. 

 

I had a manual courtesy car while mine was having some warranty work done and got a bit frustrated with how much gear changing I was having to do. 

SEL doesn't have sunroof as an option anymore after WLTP kicked in.

 

I have the 1.5 SEL DSG and find it relaxing to not have to play with gears. Nice to be able to crawl, stop, start in traffic all day long without twitching my left foot and left hand. Puts my mind at ease too when my wife who's out of practice drives it.

I disabled auto hold too. Without it once you take your foot off the brake, the car restarts and begins crawling forwards without touching the gas. With auto hold I found a tiny delay having to break the grip of the auto hold with the gas when you move off

WLTP is all about emissions so not having the extra weight means less emissions and tiny bit of fuel saving. They've even taken away the choice of spare wheel. I chose the wider steel spare wheel but what I got was the skinny lighter one.

Adaptive Cruise contriol is a must , and itn is better with DSG as you can creap when stuck in traffic , not possibhle to do on a manual though

 

I bought through CarWow. I knew my local dealer was part of the scheme and the price was better than my first enquiry. I did try to get them to match the lowest price. I conceded about £100 as this seemed a reasonable additional price to pay. Negotiate, haggle. You have nothing to lose 

 

i bought on PCP only to get the finance contribution. And if there is an improvement whilst you’re waiting ask for that new deal. Otherwise stick. I got mine increased from £600 to £1500 at no change to my negotiated discount price 

 

4 days after delivery I cancelled my agreement at a cost of £13.33. And you have 30 days to pay. No more interest and all services etc still available 

 

finally.... adaptive cruise is a must.

You can also wiggle the steering wheel to kick the engine back into life, maybe better than tapping the accelerator.

Bought my fully loaded top of the range 4 months ago. £32700 for a Skoda! But fab. “deal” persuaded me to PX my Tiguan. Always been deeply suspicious of automatics. Staggered by how good the DSG box is. And I’m fussy. The car is extremely comfortable and relaxing to drive. The only annoying thing is the computer that runs it all. It’s nothing like as intelligent as it thinks it is! All in all very pleased.

I was contacted by a dealer in Oxford and he offered me a brand new car OTR for a few quid under £28K. It came without any extras above Edition spec.

Having agreed to buy for cash I then found out through the forum about using finance and so changed the purchase to get a £600 contribution of the OTR plus two services free.

I bought the car in early August and settled the finance within 48hrs but kept the services etc.

Most dealers on Autotrader are asking around £28 - £29K for older models with higher mileages and are used/pre-registered so very happy with the car and the price.

My only negative is that the Moon White paint attracts flies and bugs when parked in the sun - oh well.

Noted thank you.   Funnily I was thinking about moon white.   Here's my dilemma now, Seat are doing 0% pcp apr and have offered me everything the Edition has (xcellence lux) plus more for roughly the above.  I haven't signed anything yet.  Sorry to swear re: Seat.

Don't.... am very aware of that.   Not to mention a better cabin and ride quality as well.  I just can't get a new skoda with the spec i'd like (1.5 tsi SE L with sunroof) or Edition with 1.5 tsi engine so am going to look at some used (nearly new) this weekend.... can put down a hefty deposit so just need to find the right finance deal the only thing Seat has on Skoda is the 0% finance deal.  Sigh.....

Two days ago I took delivery of a petrol blue sel 1.5 ordered by using Car Wow and from Leicester dealer.   So far the deal was perfect with no hassle. I had ordered  it two months ago expecting delivery in December or January.  But the dealer said he had found one,  same spec and colour and could be mine in October.

Apart from a awful journey back from. Worcestershire to Aberdeen nearly 12 hours drive with sat nav trying to avoid miles of road works with nobody working in them.   The car was brilliant. Only got 39.5 mpg but spent most of it crawling at 5 miles per hour.
