fuel tank capacity

Could someone put a diagram of the quarter mark on the gauge? does that include the red as well?

If you count there are 16 lines on the fuel gauge 4 per quarter tank. There are approximately 4 litres of fuel per line and when you reach the red zone you have used about 60 litres of the 66 litre stated capacity. However like most owners if you keep filling the neck you may be able to squeeze in as much as 71 litres. Most I have put in my 272 hatch was 67.5 litres with 5 miles of range left indicated.

First click after filling up does me

Woow ! 😮

I'm really impressed that someone is interested in knowing the fuel gauge calibration accuracy to that point!

On my side, I've activated the "Refuel quantity on the Maxidot" but it's just for fun... Actually, I don't really pay attention to the fuel gauge. The remaining autonomy is a much more relevant information for me. It talks much better to my brain than how many liters I've burnt.

Additionally since the fuel autonomy is regularly refreshed depending on the way I've driven for the last kilomters, it talks even better to me. 😄

I only know the tank volume to assess how much I will approximately fill in next time and that's it 🙂!

Isn't the fuel tank 66L?

Some markets have the option to get a larger capacity fuel tank.  PR code is 1Z2.

OM4 = Fuel tank (66 L)

1Z2 = Increase in initial standard fuel filling

Here in Oz, the additional 1Z2 is included as standard on the Superb.

Total capacity increases by 10-15L.  Haven't been able to confirm the exact increase.

The most I've put in is 78L.

in full options list my has 0M4 (66l),
maximum what i have filled were 70l

I'm totally confused with my car, 2018 1.4tsi SEL executive.

I've filled up in the past just after the low fuel light came on, needle sitting at top of red section, 70 miles left and got over 76 litres to 1st click.

Now I'm looking at my car having done 502 miles since last refill, needle sat at halfway, and range left claimed 377 miles. Do I believe this?

I think I must have at least an 80 litre tank.

All driving has been at Motorway limit, computer usually saying 50-54 mpg average on long runs, though last time I topped up I calculated only 42mpg based on top up quantity over trip miles. (That was the one time I had used regular rather than usual super-unleaded)

Tomorrow got a 200 mile round trip, dare I trust the 377 miles left indication?

An hour later and.....I decided to top up the tank, just over 44 litres so 51mpg actual.... (Super unleaded). Still non the wiser re my tank capacity.

I've refueled yesterday. I poured exactly 70l (1st click at 69,48l), whereas there were 0km left for over 4-5 km.

I always fill mine to the first click.. I did this yesterday with 15 miles range left on the trip.. it took 69.48 litres..

As a follow up to this post, yesterday's 200 mile run (90% motorway / ACC) resulted in an indicated fuel consumption of 41.9mpg and a top up confirmed 22 litre to first click, or 41 mpg actual (super unleaded) Son was driving, I notice he pumps the pedal a lot, but he's not interested in listening to my advice.....

Fuel gauge went down to around 7/8,  didn't check range left, I forgot.

Non the wiser re actual tank capacity, I doubt super unleaded gives much if any economy benefit over regular unleaded, going to switch to 60% regular + 40% super, just for the alleged superior/greater detergent package.

Once he has his own car and he pays his fuel, he'll probably be much interested in listening to your advices...  ;)

He does have his own car, but earns too much and has an attitude to money that I find very frustrating.

He can throw away hundreds of pounds on stuff, thousands on holidays but will quibble and argue about small value things.

Sorry, I thought he was a very young driver. ;)

I also love that game......."Diesel Roullette"

I have on one or two occasions over my years driving......freewheeled onto a forecourt.

I have always got a minimum of 50 miles/80kms beyond where the display shows zero miles remaining, that is the point at which the reserve capacity starts.

I ran my MK2 out deliberately to ensure that I could still count on the 50 miles, it went well beyond, I refilled it with 5l from a jerrycan and it initially showed 30 miles remaining which is remarkably accurate for a dribble of fuel on the tank bottom, it was less than 3 miles to the petrol station, within 200 yards the "remaining range" started first to 20 miles and was at zero again before I had even covered 1 mile.

They have really sorted out the algorithm correctly, with the tank filled it will always show a range that can never be achieved unless you play diesel roulette but if your driving style & journey profiles remain the same you will achieve it, I get 600 miles from a tank, the first half does exactly 300 miles, 3/4 exactly 450 miles & then it starts correcting to create a reserve capacity, at 525-550 miles it will show no miles remaining.

The range estimate is far too quick to adjust to short term changes in driving conditions in my opinion. A 1.3 mile hill climbing 600' near me knocked the range down from 300 to 265 miles, I didn't get them back on the return journey either! In fact, the 'Greenscore' was worse on the way down :D

That is understandable, it has to work on the assumption that your current journey will take you to the limits of the vehicles range, if the hill occurred at the start of your journey it will have had a greater effect on the predicted range, I have in similar circumstances seen the range increase but usually it just takes longer to decrease if that makes sense.

If you stop for more than 90 minutes meaning a new journey for the computer the range will initially be calculated on the driving profile for the preceeding journeys on that tankfull so most of your lost range should be regained but at 260 miles you are already getting to the point where the algorithm will start stealing from you.

I believe my fuel guage and the range shown down to 1/4 of a tank, thereafter I simply use the trip meter which I reset at each fill up, I drive another 50 miles after the fuel warning is on and the range shows zero, only exception would be if I were towing or driving fast on an autoroute.

The hire Superb MK3 I recently had, I think the range got down to about 80 miles left on it when I had to go and refill it to return to the hire company and not sure on how many litres went in (the receipt is long since in the bin) but it cost me £78 to fill the tank and I stopped immediately on the pressure click as I had filled my obligation to the car hire company.

I think the most the Octavia MK4 cost me to fill up was about £52.

Both will have been around the £1.21 to £1.23 price ranges (talking Morrison's in the north east of England).

A £78 fill up was enough information for me on how big the fuel tank is!

I did Glasgow to North Wales and back in a day on one tankfull in ny 2028 1.4tsi.

720 miles. 70mph on the motorway going down and 75ish coming home. Brim to brim was 47mpg. Included an hour of slow stop start passing Liverpool on the return.

From memory the fill up was just over 70l.

Just resurrecting this topic because having recently taken delivery of a new Superb it seems to have a larger fuel tank than my last one.

Either that or my fuel gauge is defective or I am getting better fuel consumption than the car thinks I am getting.

My dealer says the car has a 70 litre tank.

If I believe the range figure the car is giving me it would indicate a fuel tank of about 74 litres.

As the car is new I haven’t actually had a chance to run it right down to empty yet.

My car has a factory fitted tow bar but I doubt this would make any difference to the size of the fuel tank.

Actually, it should affect the fuel tank capacity, since it is located under the rear passengers seats, thus far from the towing system. ;)

Presume you mean "should not"
