Featured Replies

So they promised in the beginning of the event to show that new RS version, but they didn't! It was a crappy event, tbh.

That's the now standard 230. Yesterday, on Facebook, they said they'll show a second RS version, and I assumed they were talking about the rumored 245.

Was the one on the right not the RS?

Many thanks for posting the link.

I was full of anticipation, spent 30+ minutes watching and came out under-whelmed.  Not by the car (although some brighter colours would have helped) but by the launch itself.

Let's hope the launch of the uprated version is more exciting!

So the official launch took place today. Found this funny mashup :)

Yes a well timed reminder of how much better the Octavia 2 looked in pre facelift form. In my view a significantly bigger miss judgement than the Octavia 3 facelift. But perhaps this is set to be a sort of Octavia tradition.

Also if, and it is still an if, the new headlamps turn out to perform better then all is forgiven.

I don't care what the headlights look like they are said to be LED

And that's enough for me

Many LED headlights are worse than Xenons. Some even worse than Halogens.

Unfortunately.

you mean stock ones? The ones you buy with the car and not the ones people put later - right?

I still think if I should have bought Corolla with LED instead of Octavia with Xenon. Unfortunatelly I can't find how/where to compare :(

We should have that as a masthead :D /wonders why I'm not on any list :)

Yes, stock ones.

It is not easy to compare different bulb types, colour temperature changes the view a lot.

Here's some examples of different type of lights from different cars over the years:

I watched the presentation, and it seems that the whole reason for the weird headlights is to differentiate the Octavia from the Rapid. So I guess we will see the four-eyes on the Octavia IV aswell...

Also, Jozef Kaban did not come across as proud and happy as he did at the Kodiaq presentation.

So the launch on the 10th was the official standard RS launch, even though we've seen it before. Took quite a while for the (pre FL) 230 to come out after the previous RS launch, so maybe next year for the 245. Lets face it there is no engineering/manufacturing reason why they couldn't have it available from day 1.

It's probably the usual heavy hand of VW, they need Skoda 'cos it's profitable but they seem to need an obvious quality / technology gap between the brands.

It must be frustrating to manage Skoda............

Checked the German Configurator

Much relief, it still appears to have a proper handbrake.

A genuine piece of "Simply Clever"

Just in case there should be any doubt I mean that for real.

Maybe I've missed it. Any confirmation on pricing for U.K. models? Had a look at the German configurator and a petrol vRS in white, Geminis, black pack and heated widescreen was coming in at over £28k when converted (and I appreciate it's not a simple as that). Seemed a bit steep.

Also made me wonder if it's just the UK where Škoda have the 'poor mans VW' image? Or are cars just generally more expensive over there?

How does the price in Germany compare with a similar Golf GTI in Germany?

Certainly UK prices have not yet fully reflected the recent significant drop in the £.

Not yet its seems. Autocar said this on the 10th Jan

"Order books for the facelifted Octavia saloon and estate are open and first UK deliveries are due around the end of March. Pricing will be confirmed in the coming days, but a small increase on the old car, which started at £16,660, is expected due to the longer list of standard technology."

A quick - and dubiously translated - configuration later and they look to be much the same price. Wouldn't take that as gospel though. I was rushing and on lunch.

base level (manual, 5 door, "free" paint and wheels) Golf GTi on the German VW configurator is 30,875 EUR

base level (manual, 5 door, "free" paint and wheels) petrol Octavia RS Hatch is 30,890 EUR on the Skoda.de

that's just over £27 grand

The outgoing model is nearly £25K list. So difficult to see the new one costing less than £26K in the UK with the perilous state of the £

So which of these features should you really want in the 2017/2018 model?

SKODA Connect: 3 bundles;

1) Infotainment Online

2) Care Connect (Remote Access or Proactive Service)

3) Emergency Call

SmartLink

SmartGate

Seems to me SmartLink is a must and Infotainment Online is a nice to have depending on the service charge?

SmartGate may be useful but not sure how all that is going to connect at the same time. The only other useful one may be the panic button "Emergency Call".

This is becoming compulsory by April 2018 (unless we get Brexit done in 12 months), so you may get the choice this year or VAG may just go ahead and make you have it. Soon enough we'll all have to have it, anyway.

The rest of that stuff I don't really understand the desire for, but I'm a luddite I suppose! I am, of course, assuming that this is from an options list you're reading, it's not all standard stuff on the new one?
