Which service software?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I think I'm at the stage where I'm soon going to need my own software to do recoding and adaptions on my 2007 Mk.II  petrol vRS. I've seen a number of software packages mentioned: VCDS, VCP, ODIS and VAS.

Is VCDS still the preferred one to drop my money on please?

Thanks,

Paul.

Hi,

It very much depends on what exactly you want to do, and how tech savvy you are?

VCDS is probably the most popular diagnostic software / cable used by members on the site and is the baseline against which many will judge other systems. The after sales / support offered by Rosstech is first class.

A smaller number of members are using VCP - most of these use VCP in addition to VCDS, as there are additional functions that can be coded via VCP that cannot currently be coded via VCDS - but this is predominantly on the latest MQB cars with a greater number of controllers.

Another option is OBDeleven - I have not personally used this system, but it gets good reviews, is easy to use (according to owners), costs approx 1/5 VCDS cable but is still powerful enough to perform many of the coding / adaptation mods that members want to perform.

I'm sure that others will offer their opinions too.
