RNS 510 probably badly coded?

Featured Replies

So after fixing a number of things on the car recently I thought I should finally look into these errors hoping I can get rid of them.

My car has a RNS 510 Columbus unit installed, however, it is not factory fitted so I suppose the errors are the result of bad coding.

The unit itself works flawlessly.

Note that the errors show up both in the Navigation address and Radio address

Now, since I got the car, I have installed an aux cable straight into the back of the unit and it works fine.

As for the radio antenna... Radio works fine and the sound is as clear as it should.

Both errors were there before I installed the AUX.

It would be nice to know if it's a matter of ticking something off in the long coding section or if I need to get used to those errors being there all the time.

The first is due to a single antenna feed for the old radio going into a dual am fm supply for the Columbus.

The second maybe a coding issue to state the aux is there but what have you fitted exactly? Is it an aftermarket auxiliary in replacing the CD changer?

I don't have a CD changer.

I fitted this to the back of the unit. Plugged straight in and worked out of the box. Pulled the cable through the glove box so my gf can plug it into her phone and play music from there.

Again, the error was there even before I installed the aux cable.

How can I fix this?

Thanks Mike - I will look into purchasing one of those cables and installing it. I suppose nothing else is needed and I can just unplug the antenna cable from the unit and stick this splitter in between.

As for the AUX... I suppose we're stuck with the error then. :)

Cheers!

Yes - I did plug the aux into the blue plug. Neither the blue or green plugs were used for anything so I don't think the car ever had a CD changer.

I will have a bit of a play around with the vcds tomorrow but still - before I installed the aux cable, I looked up the diagram for those plugs and I made sure I connect to the AUX pins. Does the columbus expect a CD changer there instead?

Funnily enough, I had the intermittent Aux - open circuit fault with a RCD510 install on a mk5 golf. Never did find out what was causing it. There was no Aux input in the car and I had not fitted one either!! It used to return after clearing!  Didn't affect anything though.

Right, so I just installed the fakra splitting cable for the antenna and cleared out the antenna errors. Thanks again guys!

Will play around with the aux errors for a while and see if I can get those to go away too. Will keep the thread updated with the solution.

BTW, can we still mark threads as solved on this new website?

Maybe a FW update could resolve issues.

Many are resolved as with such updates ..

Doesn't a firmware update come with the risk of bricking the unit?

Not sure, but when it is done by the dealer it is done good..

Think you may do this yourself, there are posts or info on the internet to find how..

Might be too expensive to do this just to get rid of the error...

By the way Mikey - the antenna errors came back some time after I installed the fakra splitter :(

I've had the antenna fault code on my Bolero retrofit since installing it 4 years ago. I've tried 3 different dual Fakra adaptors but none have solved it!

It's frustrating when you're looking for a perfect fault free scan, but you learn to live with it, and as you say doesn't seem to effect functionality.
