Picked up my 245 today 

A week & 450 slow miles in I have some observations.

 

Its quick but, unless you floor it from a standing start its not outrageously quick feeling however, a look at the speedo will remind you it is quick & how fast you are actually going. Although, its in-gear acceleration is great, its quite refined, I'm sure this can be rectified by aftermarket tuning.

 

DCC, Sport setting isn't too harsh for road use but, wifey loves comfort setting & its does refine the sports nature of the car for longer journeys.

 

LED lights are very good if the self-leveling doesn't help on up hill down dale country lanes trying to find ways round traffic jams however, the main beam is just epic.

 

The wet 7 speed DSG is smooth & slick, I'm really liking the manual paddles too.

 

Other than the size of the new Amundsen screen, the standout feature of the car for me are the seats, perforated Alcantra with fake leather backing is easy to use & keep clean & does stop you sliding around during moments of excess. The support from seats is great with the electric control of the lumbar support being well, actually supportive which so often isn't the case.

 

The new Amundsen is not only bigger but a lot faster, the in journey re-routing is a very helpful feature although, I have cause to doubt the age of the traffic info. Haven't got around to Skoda Connect as yet but I do fear, it will require a new mobile as mine is getting on.

 

What else, I like the seat release levels in the boot, nice touch on a hatchback that I haven't had before. The single side compartment in the boot means a full set of golf clubs fits straight across the boot & the factory fit towbar has a place in the spare wheel foam tool piece which, is handy too.

 

In short, I'm very happy with the basic car, the insurance company only wanted forty quid to upgrade from the little 1.4 TSI too although, I've not yet found how much for the mods as I've yet to do them. Oh & black is a biatch to clean !!!

Ok guys news, your 245 NEEDS a tuning box cos as standard they stop more powerfully than they accelerate, yep it pulls .73g from the engine & 1.07g from the brakes.

 

Need MORE POWER.....

Did you declare to insurance company? If so how much did it put the cost up by?

Yep, all up front with the insurance, went up 22% but, I'm seriously Fn old so, best to ask yours before you buy.

Which company are you insured with? Admiral won't do it so need to look elsewhere.

Its beyond me but someone out there can probably calculate what power would be needed for >1g acceleration.

 

Porsche 911 Turbo S apparently manages it with 530bhp but has 4WD, but also appears to be 200kg heavier than a VRS (mildly surprised)

 

So we're looking at north of 500bhp I would estimate.   

 

In an Autocar test a Revo modified O3 VRS with a Golf R turbo claimed 404bhp, so I guess its within the realms of possibility?

Car is apparently at Emden, anyone know how long the wait could be from there?   Route will be via Sheerness as my dealer is based within 20 miles of the port.

Couple of weeks it seems at the moment? Mine was built on the 14th August and at the dealers by 2nd Sept, collected a few days later.  @themanwithnoaim had a similar timeline.  We might have just got lucky with the shipping schedule I guess.

So far I've only had mine (with DCC) in sport mode and I'm pleasantly surprised how compliant it seems to be on the poorly surfaced country roads I commute on daily.  

 

Also the sound generator thing doesn't seem as intrusive as I recall from test driving a pre FL VRS last year, especially as its presumably as loud as it gets in sport mode. 

 

Fuel consumption is slightly disappointing at around 27mpg average on the Maxidot so far, but its very early days at 200 miles. 

 

I've got the Skoda boot liner and also rubber mats (there is a lot of mud about where I live) and I'm putting a protective film on the back bumper top.
