Calling 1.4 TDI owners

Featured Replies

Hi

I tried this recently with my other thread but realised this title might make more sense to the owners I'd like to hear from.

Does your Mk3 1.4 TDI (90 or 105) make a high-pitched whirring sound at low (25mph and below) speeds?

I notice this particularly when changing down, and it seems to come from the rear seats. Passengers have noticed it before, even asking if my car is electric.

The 1.2 TSI that I recently had as a courtesy car did not make the same noise, so my questions are as follows.

1. If you own a 1.4 TDI, have you noticed your Fabia making this noise? If not, please do say. If yes, please do say.

2. Does anyone know if the petrol and diesel models use massively different fuel pumps? My Skoda retailer told me that they reckon it's the fuel pump and that it's 'normal'. But I've not noticed an audible fuel pump in any other car I've driven or owned.

If anyone can answer the above I'd be most grateful. Apologies for the duplication to my original thread but I figured that maybe the title didn't seem relevant or clear enough.

Yes, but I'm not sure it's the pump.. others have noticed that sound and I think it was a ribbed plastic pipe (canister hose) which is the cause of the issue and owners were getting it swapped out for a rubber hose instead.. I've ignored it ever since I got my car.. it can be annoying if you concentrate on it..

There must be other TDI owners who've seen this thread. Can I please ask either a 'yes' or a 'no' to whether you're hearing this noise?

It would really help if I'm to convince my Skoda dealer that the noise isn't normal.
