Emission fix letter.... What to do?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've finally received my official skoda letter asking me to book in the octavia 1.6tdi to have the emmision 'fix'.

I've been reading some horror stories, mainly about how the fix puts more stress on the egr and dpf causing their lifespan to shorten significantly. The 2011 octy has 65k on the clock and they've all been trouble free...  I Obvs don't wish to end up with egr / dpf issues, so anyone got opinions or experiences of the same concerns?

I'm thinking of just keeping the car as is  though if I ever sell it (won't be for a long time) then the buyer may be put off... Or will it become a compulsory fix in time to come??

Cheers,

Marc

If your happy with the car don't have the fix done. There is no legal requirement to have it done. If your car needs to go to the dealers for any reason tell them NOT to do the update. You might have to sign paperwork saying you have declined the offer of the fix.

Cars without the fix done may become worth more to prospective buyers. And you can always get it done a day/week before selling if you find otherwise.

Unless you live in, or commute into (by car), a major city there's little to be gained by having it done.

My opinion too. Buying a second hand VAG car that has had the "fix" done is like playing Russian roulette. I would look for one that hasn't been fudged.

Thanks guys, kind of what I was hoping to hear. Think I'll stand fast and not fix what technically isn't broke.

I wonder if the emission police will come looking for us renegades at some stage!?

put some tape over the odb port and stickers telling the techs not to do it. as it seems once done they wont reverse it, even though it could be reversed as easily as it was applied.

do some googleing I did. pulled my deposit on a VAG car in part because it had been done.

I'm just about to buy a Fabia Monte Carlo and it has just gone into the dealers today for this update and service.

Time to rethink

^^^ ?

Who were you about to buy from?

If you want one that has not had the fix there will be ones out there, just not from Skoda or VW Group Main Dealerships Stock.

Then you will need to be sure and 1.6TDI CR being sold have not had 'VW's magic beans treatment',  All the same go and show and none the worst for something shoved up a tube and defeat device removed with no downsides.....

Independant dealer but the car has full Skoda history and I was told yesterday it was going in for emissions recall and service today.

I have a private buy to look at so will go and see that before I make my final decision.

Pity you had not been able to tell them not to have it done.

As to a Full Skoda History that counts for not much if it is Oil & Filter Services and a pollen Filter & maybe never a Air Filter to 40,000 miles,

all there would be of much importance would be a Valid Manufacturers Warranty.

Service Invoices and jobs done and parts replaced is so much nicer than boxes ticked IMO.

Yes I didn't realise until I came across it on the forum.

If it has been done I'm now wondering if it could be overwritten with a remap?

I need to do some more investigating ;)
